LC Trooper THX1138 forwards this to us:J

JERUSALEM – Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has offered Syria the Golan Heights if the Damascus regime cuts its ties with Iran and ends support for Palestinian terror groups, the Israeli media reported today.

The Golan Heights is strategic mountainous territory looking down on Israeli population centers twice used by Syria to launch wars against the Jewish state. Mainstream U.S. and Israeli military experts have long maintained Israel must retain the Golan to ensure against a ground invasion from Syria.

Has that self-hating Jooish clown forgotten all of history, or was handing a victory to Hezb’allah last year just not enough for him?

Here’s a tip, Ehud: Look up the Six Day War and pay particular attention to the events leading up to it. Any mention of shelling of women and children from the Golan Heights should be of particular interest to you, you worthless assclown.

Do you have any idea, you shmekel, you inexcusably worthless nudnik, what you’re talking about handing over to the swine wishing to destroy Eretz Yisroel?

And here I was, thinking that Arik’s handing over of the Gaza Strip to the paleoswinians was the stupidest move in the history of Eretz Yisroel.

You proved me wrong.

Please, friends of Israel, take this fuckhead OUT!

Being the hardest of places/areas to take from Syria back then, if given back to them now, it would be damn near impossible to take it back again. Ragheads may be stupid shitstains, but they do learn from their mistakes once in a while and Syria won’t make the same ones again concerning the Golan Heights.

When, in the history of the world, has a nation given back conquered territory- with the entirely anomalous exception of the heirs to the British Empire?

Let’s see…combined Arab “forces” attack the “Shitty Little Country” several times over the last 59 years, get their lice-ridden asses ground back into the sands from whence they sprang every single time, and what?

Israel should simply return the very same areas from which the Arabs most advantageously attacked her?

It should hardly be necessary (except, of course for the morally-deficient, or oxygenically-deprived among us) to point out the folly of any policy which would do such a thing, but there they go…

Now Syria wants to pick a fight again. Israel, you need guys like Sharron, who killed first and asked questions later if you want to survive. I bet Syria will have their Hesbullsh*t jihad-wanabes attack out of Philistine compounds or Lebanon, though Lebanon is kind of iffy at this point.

Better yet, if they’d like, I’d be happy to replace Eduh, er, um, Ehud, that is, and not only pound the terrorists and their countries of choice into submission, but continue on and conquer the entire Arabian Peninsula and annex it, all oil proceeds to be shared between the Jews and the Christians. I’ll be taking applications for Urban Renewal plans for Mecca, Al-Aqsa, and Medina, and directors of the same dept. I may be goy, but I couldn’t do any worse than Eduh.

I swear to G_d, both Jorge and Ehud have a death wish for themselves and their countries. After the disastrous results of handing over Gaza to the subhumans, you’d think he would learn. And what about the people who support these assholes? Are they walking around blind without a cane? I mean, until construction of the seperation wall was began, they had dead children every day from suicide bombers. EVERY DAY. And now Ehud wants to let these animals come right into Israel’s back yard. Someone give Israel a strong cup of black coffee and a kick in the ass, and get these knuckleheads out of office before they do any more damage.

We did this in Vietnam, take a hill then give it back only to re-take it again…and we all remember how well THAT worked.

There’s this little ringing voice in my head that says there’s something behind this that we don’t know about….some covert strategy or something. I sure hope that I’m hearing that voice right, that it’s not just the ringing from listening to Deep Purple at full volume on my headphones.

    1) Israel offers Golan Heights back to Syria. Forgets age old lesson that trading land for peace results in less land and no peace. Especially when dealing with Arab states where lying and psychopathology are honored institutions.

    2) Syria accepts by shaking hands with Israel while turning its’ head to wink at Iran.

    3) Syria moves in and fortifies the area, giggling with glee.

    4) Rockets begin mysteriously striking Israel from the chunk of land that was given up to insure peace in the area. Neville Chamberlain… er, I mean Ehud Olmert is baffled.

    5) Iran continues to support Syria and terrorism throughout the region. Neville Chamberlain… er, I mean Ehud Olmert remains baffled.

    6) Syria eventually uses Golan Heights to launch a major offensive against Israel. Neville Chamberlain… er, I mean Ehud Olmert is DOWNRIGHT baffled!

    7) Israel either surrenders more land, or fights the Syrians and eventually the Iranians. Neville Chamberlain… er, I mean Ehud Olmert is, you guessed it, quite baffled.

    8) Israel is condemned by the world for defending itself. Every Syrian and Iranian killed is an atrocity. Leftist press photographers ditch real photojournalism for staged photo shoots of questionably injured children in the arms of questionably enraged stooges. The world is outraged by Israel’s barbaric behavior. Neville Chamberlain… er, I mean Ehud Olmert can’t believe how baffling things have become.

    9) Facing extinction, Israel retaliates with nuclear weapons to stop the offensive. The world goes apoplectic. Tehran threatens nuclear reprisal. Israel forced to vaporize Damascus and Tehran.

    10) Paradise is overwhelmed with Jihadists demanding their virgins. Allah substitutes inflatable virgins to fulfill the flood of orders.

    11) Neville Chamberlain… er, I mean Ehud Olmert goes down in history as one of the biggest dumbasses of all time. Right up there with Neville Chamberlain!

Good analysis sir, and very plausible I’m afraid. While I would hate to see the situation go nuclear, you have to wonder just how much further the Israelis have to lower the bar to calm these swarming vermin down….and when enough finally becomes enough.

I have to agree with you that it probably will go nuclear…hopefully on a very limited scale…and Israel will be the one to toss the nukes around, as they will have no other option left to them. The nuking of Damascus and Teheran will be bought and paid for by the racist, anti-semitic, sexist, intolerant death cult known as islam.

Sadly, short of every Israeli citizen drowning themselves in the Mediterranean, there is no pacifying their enemies. You would think that Neville Chamberlain… er, I mean Ehud Olmert would have figured that out by know! Jesus! How many times do the Israeli leadership need to hear the constant threats of annihilation by the likes of penile discharge Clapmadinejad before they finally understand?

I actually embrace a nuclear solution. If we had exercised it immediately after 9/11, we wouldn’t be having the problems we are facing today. The only thing a 7th Century mentality respects is sheer, brutal force. Is there a better symbol of overwhelming force and unbendable resolve than the mushroom cloud? Let us not forget the number of lives that will be SAVED by going nuclear. For every life lost in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, how many were saved because America and the Soviets never duked it out? We NEED to re-establish nuclear deterrence ‘cuz NOBODY thinks we have the cojones to actually use them!

I may have posted this quote before, but it bears repeating:

“If you are going to use military force, then you ought to use overwhelming military force. Use too much and deliberately use too much… You’ll save lives, not only your own, but the enemy’s too.
    General Curtis LeMay”

Right on on that quote, Major. Earliest use that I know of of that philosophy was, um, Carthage in, (looks up date), 146 BC.

Again, you’re spot on sir…the 7th century mohammedans recognize nothing else but overwhelming force.

Do you know the reasoning behind the bombing of Dresden and other civilian centers in Germany during 1944-45? The Allies had pushed the Germans back to their own borders, east and west. However, the majority of the German populace were still behind the war effort and were continuing to work in war industries. Curtis LeMay and Bomber Harris rightly assumed (in my opinion) that the only way to break the will of the Germans to wage war was to bring it to their doorsteps. Hence, the bombings and destruction of German population centers. Sherman did it with his march through Georgia and the Carolinas also, bringing the war up close and personal to the civilians.

I’m assuming by your handle that you have some military time under your belt, so you know far better than this old DoD employee/history nut that it is a doctrine of warfighting that if you break the will of the homefront to wage war, then you’ve pretty well won the whole thing. That’s where we and the Israelis are in the most danger. The traitorous press and the ignorance of world opinion arrayed against us are winning the war for the islamonazis. We are told to sympathize with the destroyers of marketplaces and pizzerias and schools and public transport systems, that they are “displaced, and marginalized”, that it is our support of Israel that is the root of the unrest on the “arab street”.

One of my often repeated arguments about the value of islamic society is this (and I repeat myself): Show me one artist, poet, writer, playwright, engineer, scientist, surgeon, architect, physicist, maker or designer of ANYTHING contributing to the progress of civilization that has come out of the arab world in the last 1000 years….just one.

I have to agree with you Major, as much as I don’t want to see nukes used in this war…if our enemies are incapable of behaving like decent human beings, then it may be time to turn their “arab street” into a sheet of glass.

Israel has to stop offering land for results. Israel is in a position militarily to get results and actually GAIN land.
Time to empty the Gaza refugee camps into Syria and Lebanon. Now arabs who care so much about palestinians will be able to prove it, and finally the refugee camps will be flourishing suburbs.

When I read Alan Derschowitz’s book, “A Case for Israel”, he made a good, but obvious point, which I’m paraphrasing - “”" In war, Israel faces total extinction every time. If it loses, it ceases to exist, as there will be no refugee camps for Jews, as the arabs will exterminate them. When arab nations attack Israel, they have nothing to lose. They know that Israel will not stoop to the arab level and attack soft targets, and if any land is lost on the arab side, it can just be traded back for peace. There is also no question the world media and the UN will oppose anything the Jews do, so the spin alone will make martyrs of the arab aggressors. “”"

Olmert is acting like he has no knowledge of his own country’s history. The arabs could not have asked for a better Israeli Prime Minister. Judging by Olmert’s single-digit support in Israel, his career will be short-lived.

LeMay was a genius. The lessons of great military victories of the past were not lost on him! Thank God people listened to him during WWII and when he was building the Strategic Air Command.

From Korea to the War on Terrorism, we have forgotten how to really fight a war. War is nasty business and the best way to shorten it is to lay waste to your opponent. When you are finished beating him to within an angstrom of his life, THEN you sit down and chat about how things WILL be done in the future. Rushing in, grabbing the enemy flag and proclaiming “victory” ‘cuz the MSM might start whining if the war takes more than 3 days, is horse crap! Even worse horse crap is establishing a “restrained” garrison in such a place! No, you “Bomb them into the Stone Age,” mount a broad invasion front or fronts to sterilize the countryside of resistance, then seal the borders. Screw the MSM and those who blindly believe everything they say or write. They declared their traitorous allegiances long ago.

We are doomed as a country if we don’t wise up. The world is NOT drifting towards Utopia where everyone holds hands, munches Peyote, and sings Kumbaya. It is, and always will be, a very dangerous place because unshakable, unchangeable human nature keeps it that way. The sooner we grasp this concept, the sooner we can shake the touchy-feely mentality paralyzing us and get busy protecting ourselves from the Barbarians gathering at our gates.

Firstly, Israel owns the land because G-D gave it to us! Secondly, there is nothing colonial about israel…

    DJ,

We? Are you an Israeli citizen?

yep I am, have been for the past 4 years, have dual US and israeli citizinship’s and passports.

I vote in the election’s, I pay property tax and have served in the army (volunteer unit bvefore I lost my hearing) I dont pay income tax to israel though, that goes to the US.

There was quite a long period of time when the Muslims “owned” what is now Israel, and more recently, the British “owned” it and was known as Palestine. Amazingly, Jews AND Muslims were able to live side-by-side during that time.

Learn your history, jews were always the majority in jerusalem and the galile, Both the muslim’s and british and crusaders were invading foreigners.

You mean like the 1929 riots where for some unknown reason the arabs butcherd 67 jews in hebron and dozens in jerusalem and safed ? or the 1936 riots ? or the uhh hundreds of other riots.. and the dihmi tax the jews paid and and and……

Or the etzion block massacre ? or the tel hai massacre etc etc etc etc etc etc etc…

Or maybe the destruction of every fucking thing I deem holy ? its not my fault if you sit back and let the arabs desecrate the holy sepulchure (as they have and are) or that they desecrate the church of nativity and every other thing holy to christianity.

But I am fucking not going to tolerate anymore graves vandalized, torah scrolls burnt, synegouges burnt, jewd raped, lynched and murderd!

Find me the hurva shull, or the syngegouge of the sage rabbi yohanan ben zakai ( and the jar of temple olive oil there) or nachmonidies synegouge, or the thousands of others…

Like the abraham avinu synegoufe in hebron which the arabs destroyed in 1936 and for the next 30 years used it as a goat pen…

You wana see pix of the grafiti on the grave sites of joshua and caleb ? amongst others are swastikas… or maybe you want me to share the vile disgusting smell of urine at the grave site of joseph…or simon the just.. samuel the prophet etc.. etc.. etc… etc…

LMAO! Oh, Fredrik thank you! I needed a laugh today. I think this is the first time I’ve ever seen anyone on the Rott be chided for bad language. For what little it’s worth, (and with apologies to Matthew Modine) “A Rott without venom is like a day without sunshine!”

Oh, and please, don’t worry about any abuse directed my way. I’m an incorrigible asshole, and one of my little hobbies is prodding the resident wingnuts (and I use that term in the most affectionate sense) with pointy little barbs of reality. Not that they’re wrong about everything, you understand. When it comes to things like, oh, I dunno, gun control, the free market, and particularly the dangers posed by militant Islam, most Rottiezens are more than capable of separating the clues from the turds in the noxious punchbowl of public discourse.

Nah, they’re not all bad. Least of all Crunchie’s who’s uh…well I I suppose I should call it a “flame”, didn’t bother me in the least. You’re right about one thing, however. He should leave the flaming to people like Misha & B.C. who know what they’re doing :-)

    Anyway, on to Crunchie

Dude….that is so lame. Mom jokes? Seriously?? It seems like you’re trying way too hard (flaming is like a martial art. Be the willow). Not being as au fait with kiddy-fiddler jargon as you are, I readily admit that I don’t know what a ’shiste’ video is. I guess you’re really ‘down with the kids’ if you know what I mean, and I think you do.

I really think people like you, who are obviously so much more enlightened than us mouth breathers, should refrain from using His name if you are gonna say he doesn’t exist.

It doesn’t take an enlightened soul to note the myriad contradictions inherent in the nature of the Christian God, couple that with the complete paucity of evidence substantiating his existence, and draw the quite elementary conclusion that, no, he doesn’t exist. You just need to refuse to deny the obvious.

You should, and quite often I’ll add. But I bet that even our most merciful Lord would have a hard time listening to you.

I guess even divine compassion has limits. Call me a mean old cynic but I would think that the ego of the omniscient, omnipotent, omnipresent, and (allegedly) omnibenevolent creator of the universe wouldn’t be too badly bruised by my refusing to kiss his ass.

So what’s the problem. Misha’s site.If ya don’t like, stick Uncle Bob’s cock back in yer mouth and go waste bandwidth on DU, they’ll think your brilliant over there. Maybe you can be their King!

A day without uncle Bob’s cock is like a day without…oh, hang on.

Anyway, since you didn’t really put forward any actual points there’s really very little to respond to. I could continue to critique your lameassed little flame but I’ll just quietly point to the absolute lack of Rottiezens following you into the breach instead. Their silence makes my point better than I could.

Not that it should come as a surprise by now but, well, I didn’t do that either. I think we should adopt a baseball style system when it comes to bullshit misrepresentations and outright lies about what other people say. Since this is your third strike I suggest you get your dumb ass back to the dugout and make more room for the grownups to talk.

Oh, and about God’s supposed contradictory and two-faced stance, you only say that as God didn’t fulfill every homo-erotic or animal-erotic desire you’ve ached and yearned for.

    Oh my…where to begin?

Okay. Let’s start out by talking a little about the contradictory nature of God. To believe in the God of Abraham is to believe that God has certain characteristics. Among these characteristics are omnipotence, omniscience, omnibenevolence, and omnipresence. In other words, God is all powerful, all knowing, all loving, and is present everywhere.

A great many theists use the argument from design to substantiate their belief in God. The argument from design basically states that the beauty and majesty of the world necessitates a designer.

Now, consider the smallpox virus. The smallpox virus killed over five hundred million people in the twentieth century alone. That’s more than eighty holocausts worth. Many of these victims were children and babies. Read up on Smallpox. It is an excruciatingly painful way to die.

Of course Smallpox doesn’t exist anymore, except in a couple of isolated locations where small samples are retained for study. The reason smallpox is no longer with us is because thousands of men and women worked tirelessly for centuries in an effort to eradicate it. In the great generational battle with Smallpox, God’s ethereal hand was conspicuous by its absence.

Consider also Hurricane Katrina. More than a thousand people died, tens of thousands lost all their earthly possessions, and nearly a million were displaced. It is safe to say that almost every person living in New Orleans at the moment Katrina struck believed in an omnipotent, omniscient and compassionate God. But what was God doing while a hurricane laid waste to their city?

Of course, we had ample warning that a storm of epic proportions was about to strike New Orleans, and the ensuing human response was tragically inept. However, it was inept only by the light of science! Climatologists and meteorologists worked tirelessly to wrest the hurricane’s path from mute nature in order to provide enough warning to ensure the majority of New Orlean’s citizens were able to escape. Had the citizens of New Orlean’s been content to rely on the benevolence of the Lord, they wouldn’t have known a killer hurricane was bearing down on them until they felt the first gusts of wind on their faces.

So, why do I bring all this unpleasantness up? Well, if you reconsider the characteristics of God you’ll recall that three of them were omnipotence, omniscience, and omnibenevolence. This means that God either knew about Smallpox & hurricane Katrina and couldn’t do anything in which case he’s not omnipotent, or that He didn’t know about Smallpox & hurricane Katrina, in which case he’s not omniscient, or that he did know and could act but chose not to, in which case he isn’t omnibenevolent. That’s contradiction number 1.

Contradiction number 2. Consider Hell. The Christian conception of Hell is of a place where the unfaithful the deviant are tortured for all eternity. Do you really think a mother could enjoy Heaven if she knew that her only son was rotting in Hell just for refusing to believe in God? I don’t.

Contradiction number 3. Hell is supposed to be a place of eternal punishment. If you die with an “unclean soul” you go to Hell. Do you really think a soul deserves eternal punishment for petty thievery? Do you think it’s fair to sentence such a thief to the same punishment as Hitler? Isn’t God supposed to be perfectly just?

Contradiction number 4: Since you brought up Homosexuality, let me ask you: Didn’t God create everything including homosexuals? If so, why has he got such a grudge against them? Could it be that Biblical prohibitions against homosexuality are based on simple prejudice?

There are many more where they came from, and I’m not even touching on the myriad contradictions in the Bible.

So yeah, the idea of God as ennvisioned by the devotees of the three main monotheistic religions is internally inconsistent and contradictory.

    Read Leviticus dipshit.

I’ve read the Bible. Much of Liviticus is barbaric and disgusting. The rest is merely incomprehensible gibberish. Put another way, it’s exactly the sort of thing you’d expect a sandstrewn primitive with messianic delusions who lived 3500 years ago to write.

And as far as I am concerned, go put on your keffayah or PLO headrag so the sharpshooters can spot you all the easier, you Islamofascist cumsucker.

Okay, talk me through this. I state, fairly unambiguously, that I’m an atheist. You cleverly interpret this to mean that I’m a fundamentalist Muslim. How in the big blue fuck does that work?

Gee, thanks a bunch. I guess the comments are reserved for the established elite.

By the way, I don’t care about the bad language as long as there’s some form of substance attatched to it. I don’t get why would you write a post containing nothing but random insults? What’s your message? That you’re angry but you don’t really know why? The “arguments” of libs and socialists are so easy to shoot down anyway, so is it just because you’re lazy? Serously, I’m just trying to figure out why you would resort to the socialist rabbles favourite debate “technique”: Flinging feces.

Muzzy, I think you were actually doing rather good up until the drivel about contradictions in christianity. That was a fumble. I’m going to make a rather bold and probably intemperate statement.

If a nuke goes off in Israel, then it will be time to exercise the right of Reset Button, beginning with the total disassembly of the congress and removal of the State Department as a viable entity.

Aw, was Muzzy awowed out of Mommy’s dungeon? I meant, basement. Sorry. Or are you one of these partisan flamers who thinks that the Inconvenient Truth is the answer to everything that Karl Marx did not illustrate?

You said our God, and Jesus Christ, in earlier posts, since you don’t believe in God don’t use improper grammar and insinuate yourself as being part of His people. You obviously aren’t. And here’s the thing about heaven and hell, you think they don’t exist. Fine, that’s your theory. Just don’t bitch and moan for an eternity as the heat turns up in the 7th Circle of Hell. Let’s see, you aren’t ragging on Islam as you do Christians and those “awful Jews.”

Ergo I must be a fundamentalist Muslim? Is it really so difficult to conceive of a person throwing down the crutch of organized religion that you have to assign one to him regardless of the content of his posts?

Let’s take that quaintly childish example of baffling illogic and run with it for a little, shall we? I have yet to read any flowery denunciations of Scientology penned by your good self, so obviously it’s reasonable for me to assume that you are at this very moment writing a check to the Hubbard worshipping mind-head pyramid people with one hand while trying to scrub the body thetans away with the other.

Since you’ve never said you’re not a drano huffing, solvent abusing, kiddy fiddling little deev, it is safe for me to presume that you are so far gone you can’t get an erection unless you’re doing all three activities simultaneously.

You condemn yourself with your own silence, sirrah!

Methinks, you’d be stupid enough to buy into Pisslam

And Methinks that a wingnutty God-botherer who commits the fallacy of bifurcation and gets the burden of proof completely assbackwards in the first paragraph of a post, and who also seems to think using words such as ‘Methinks’ like an overzealous village idiot in a Renaissance Fair is the mark of an intellectual, doesn’t have the moral authority to call anyone stupid.

I don’t care to answer your drivel about how rotten God is due to Katrina.

That’s because you can’t. That’s because what I presented was the problem of theodicy, which has confounded the greatest theological minds our species has ever produced and is not answerable by know-nothing wingnut idiots festering away on the other side of the internet.

So, if you’re gonna blame God for all the bad, why not leave some of that blame for Katrina deaths at ole Willie Nagin and Kathleen Bitchfist Blanco’s steps?

This is the most shamefully transparent and artless attempt to dodge an issue that I’ve ever seen. Fuck Nagin. Fuck Blanco. I’m talking about YOUR God. Your supposedly all-knowing, all-powerful, and all-loving God who is content to sit back and let us all die like animals for no good reason whatsoever and then has the nerve to demand we kiss his ass our entire lives so we can *win* the priviledge of kissing his ass for eternity. What the fuck is up with that guy?

Since there’s no god, as you assert, why not put the blame where it needs to?

Because we’re talking about the existence of God, shithead.

Or are you one of these partisan flamers who thinks that the Inconvenient Truth is the answer to everything that Karl Marx did not illustrate?

If we were participating in the Turing test, this would be the point where I’d say I was talking to a robot, and not a particularly sophisticated one at that. This quote makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

Fine, that’s your theory. Just don’t bitch and moan for an eternity as the heat turns up in the 7th Circle of Hell.

Oh, how Just and merciful of your all-loving God to punish me in hellfire for eternity simply for refusing to kiss his ass.

By the way, the underworld is other religions too, you jackass.

Is this some kind of code? This would make more sense if I ran it through babelfish a few times.

The thought of a nuke going into Israel is terribly frightening. However, whoever did that would suffer punishing wrath from much of the West (especially the US!), so hopefully that is a strong deterrent.

Prone to generalizations? I don’t know whether to re-double my efforts or throw in the towel. But much of the point of being here is to learn something, which has been a valuable effect of my time here (along with debating). (Plus, some folks have hopes of converting me.) Now that I think about it, I’m not going to scurry into a hole because of two comments. (don’t know how specific the RR comment was)

I have actually been in a gun store. I bought a Taurus revolver once and was on the waiting period when spouse accidentally found the receipt getting coffee money from my wallet. He went to the store with me and hovered scowling while I cancelled the transaction. Restocking fee, my ass! It’s really good I didn’t get it then (things are much better now). Spouse decided he wasn’t cursed after all.

Yeah, no hint of mercenary braggodocio there eh? You hypocritical little fuckwit.

I wasn’t trying to be politically correct. I just think Misha’s insistence on typing the convoluted and lesser known “Eretz Yisroel” when talking about plain old “Israel” in an attempt to be More-Kosher-than-thou is both irritating and weird.

And what Muzzy won’t tell you either is that Gordon (Brown) will probably be taking 60-75% of it.

There’s no point, Muzzy. Seriously, and absolutely no insult intended, but for a Christian to explain to an Atheist how Christianity works is like trying to teach a bunny rabbit astrophysics. (No, I’m not trying to compare Atheists to bunny rabbits, the example would work just as well the other way around, with the Atheist being the one doing the explaining to a Christian).

We simply don’t have the same frame of reference, so what means one thing to you means something completely different to us and vice versa. It’s not that I don’t want to explain it to you, if I could I’d love to, it’s because I can’t.

Hhmm…. Mind if I give a crack at it? Your examples are fairly easy.

To believe in the God of Abraham is to believe that God has certain characteristics. Among these characteristics are omnipotence, omniscience, omnibenevolence, and omnipresence. In other words, God is all powerful, all knowing, all loving, and is present everywhere.”

    Correct, so far.

The argument from design basically states that the beauty and majesty of the world necessitates a designer.

Since you have built your following comments on this, I will use a similar framework. Corrent me if I’m wrong, but your following statements about Smallpox seem to imply that you believe the hideous nature of the disease to be a mark against the existence of a ‘designer’ in the same fashion as those who see the ‘beauty and majesty of the world’.

The reason smallpox is no longer with us is because thousands of men and women worked tirelessly for centuries in an effort to eradicate it. In the great generational battle with Smallpox, God’s ethereal hand was conspicuous by its absence.

Here’s where you slip. You assume that, because of the aforementioned ‘four traits’, that God must, by necessity, somehow magically insert
His all-powerful hand into the mix in some sort of miraculous event that saves all humanity from a mere disease. And that, if He fails to do so, he somehow invalidates one of the prior aforementioned traits which define Him.
    This is a false assumption.
Go back and read your entry on Smallpox. Do you see the portion under VACCINIZATION? Another humble, tiny organism which we call Cowpox, different only slightly from the terrible and deadly Smallpox, which afflicted humans–but instead of being incredibly lethal ended up being our salvation from the vicious disease you use an an example.
Such a simple, tiny thing. And it did not appear overnight. It was not created miraculously. It, like Smallpox, was ALREADY THERE. In fact, it had been there for so long that it had been taken for granted, to where even the most learned of people had taught themselves to overlook it. Until one of those people realized that the most humble of people were somehow unaffected, until one of those people opened their eyes and PAID ATTENTION to what they saw, one tiny creature had been the scourge of millions. Fitting then, that another almost identical to it would bring about its end.
It’s almost like David and Goliath, really. In any event, this example doesn’t disprove any of the ‘four traits’. It merely goes to show that omnipotent can also be subtle. Looks to me like God’s hand was quite present, in as much as a solution was already present.

It is safe to say that almost every person living in New Orleans at the moment Katrina struck believed in an omnipotent, omniscient and compassionate God. But what was God doing while a hurricane laid waste to their city?

Well, if He were human, he’d be doing the equivalent of shaking his head in frustration at the stubborness of His children.

A rather common ‘joke’ passed around the Internet at this time. If you live in the South, you’ve probably heard it before. It goes a bit like this: A man is sitting at home when it begins to rain and then flood. Crawling up on his roof, he waits calmly. Soon, some people in a large pickup truck are driving through the water and offer to give him a lift. “No thanks, he replies, God will save me.” A half hour later, the water is much too high for vehicles, but a family is paddling away in a little boat. They offer to help him out of there. “No thanks,” he replies, “God will save me.” A couple more hours of sitting on his roof, and a rescue helicopter lights him up with its searchlight. They lower a rope ladder and yell at him over the speakers to climb up. “No thanks,” he screams, “God will save me!” Shortly thereafter, his house washes away in the floodwater and the man drowns. He ‘wakes up’ at the gates of Heaven, and looks up at God. “Lord,” cries the man, “I called out for you again and again and waited on you. Why didn’t you save me?”
To which God replies, “What are you talking about?! I sent you a truck, a boat, and a helicopter!”

This may not make much sense to you, but it’s more of a wisdom thing than an intelligence one. You’re correct that the human response to Katrina was inept by the light of science. God has had plenty of busy time with hurricanes in the region before. It’s not like people DON’T KNOW that the city was below water, that the area had been predicted, dozens of years ago, to be in extreme danger of flooding at the next big hurricane, or that, say, the area has been the target of numerous large, powerful storms since it was colonized to begin with (and even before, as the old Native American tribes could attest to). There’s this whole concept of Free Will inherent in Christian doctrine, which is to say that while God may be omnipotent and omniscient and all of that, he’ll let you make your own choices, and if you’re wrong, you’ll have to deal with the consequences of such. Advice, not coercion.
For the record, most people who have lived on the coast (I am one) can tell when a hurricane is going to be getting close enough to strike, simply from experience. There’s ample of time to flee to a more safe location, even on foot. Just because some choose not to do so does not, in any way, lessen the abilities of God. Nice try.

Well, if you reconsider the characteristics of God you’ll recall that three of them were omnipotence, omniscience, and omnibenevolence. This means that God either knew about Smallpox & hurricane Katrina and couldn’t do anything in which case he’s not omnipotent,

God clearly knew, as even HUMANS knew about hurricanes and diseases, even if after the fact in certain cases. But here’s where your assumption is false. The lack of action does not indicate the INABILITY to act. Put it this way, the reason no one has responded to your ‘contradictions’ up until this point isn’t because it was impossible to do so, but simply because most (such as our canine Emperor) chose not to. This response to your post is, in fact, evidence that it’s possible.

or that He didn’t know about Smallpox & hurricane Katrina, in which case he’s not omniscient,

Goes against your original base assumption, that God created them to begin with. How would He not know what He had created, when it clearly is so detailed? Especially when He saw fit to provide a counter to one organism with another or to natural disasters by giving clear warning signs and the ability to employ cognitive reasoning skills and/or self-propulsion to endure or escape the disaster.

or that he did know and could act but chose not to, in which case he isn’t omnibenevolent.

Ah, see, there’s the rub. This is what it REALLY comes down to, I believe, the assumption of intent. This is where most atheists and anti-theists get tripped up, because they believe that THEIR morality is superior to God’s (not saying that’s true of you, but it is of many).
Let’s carry this to its logical conclusion, shall we? If humans were allowed to make choices, both good and bad, but every time they made a bad one, God would step in and save them from the consequences, what would that do?
Firstly, it’d mean that humans wouldn’t really care what they chose, since they could never be wrong. With no penalty for bad choices, why would they distinguish between the two? HOW would you distinguish between the two? And what a mess, God having to stop in every milisecond, ‘fixing’ someone’s bad choice… ick. If you have kids, do you ALWAYS prevent them from doing the wrong thing but never admonish or punish them for doing so? No. Sometimes kids, and people, have to be allowed to make the wrong choices. This is so they actually LEARN from them, and become better. In the case of adult humans who foolishly sit by while a storm several STATES across is heading there way and assume everything will be alright… well, it looks like they will serve as examples for the rest of us.
Secondly, if God took away all choices, or made it so all choices had the same final result, there wouldn’t BE any real choice. It would deny humans Free Will, and Free Will is one of the most important concepts IN Christian theology.

    That’s contradiction number .

    No contradiction here, moving on…

Argh, that last part should have said ‘contradiction number one.’ Silly C&P.

Contradiction number 2. Consider Hell. The Christian conception of Hell is of a place where the unfaithful the deviant are tortured for all eternity. Do you really think a mother could enjoy Heaven if she knew that her only son was rotting in Hell just for refusing to believe in God? I don’t.

How is this a contradiction? I’d love to bust it, and I see several ways, but it’s not precise enough. You’ve not actually STATED a contradiction, you’ve merely implied one, and not very well. I thought this was about the ominpotence, omniscience, omnipresence, or omnibenevolence of God.

You’re confusing human morality with divine. If you want to be anally specific, that is, go by the Law, then yes. The Law says “You do this, you get punished for it.” It doesn’t differentiate much between things, there’s a set line you don’t cross. Cross it with a toe or by leaping as far across as possible, you face the consequences.
“Perfectly just” was not one of your four stated conditions, but I’ll go with it this time. “Perfectly Just” is, in fact, following the Law to the letter. So yes, by such an example, perfect justice would be doing exactly what has been promised. Ouch.
This is why the First Covenant seems such a raw deal, at least to me. No offense to those who still abide by it (it wasn’t repealed or replaced, after all, and it’s still a legitimate path, but a difficult one), but I’d much rather place the trust in my fate to the forgiving and loving nature of our Savior, rather than the unforgiving, inflexible Law.
God can be both perfectly just AND perfectly forgiving. Most people focus on the former and pay no attention to the latter.

Contradiction number 4: Since you brought up Homosexuality, let me ask you: Didn’t God create everything including homosexuals? If so, why has he

got such a grudge against them? Could it be that Biblical prohibitions against homosexuality are based on simple prejudice?

He didn’t create them that way. In as much as Science has yet to prove in the existence of a ‘gay gene’ (in which case it’d move into the next line of discussion, that somehow it’s an inherent thing that was useful to the propogation of the species–REAL good luck there, it’s one thing faith and science agree on quite well as being ludicrous), I’m going to go with the belief that such a thing is an aspect of nurture rather than nature–ie, Choice. That whole Free Will thing, you know. It’s not hardcoded, ergo, it must be learned. And if someone chooses to do that which has been proscribed as wrong, well, there will no doubt be consequences. If God says that homosexuality is bad, that’s His business, but it helps to take note. Considering that Christianity sees nothing wrong with homosexuals accepting Christ and being forgiven, loving the Sinner and hating the Sin, I fail to see any contradiction here.

There are many more where they came from, and I’m not even touching on the myriad contradictions in the Bible.

Feel free to provide more. I’ve got time.

So yeah, the idea of God as ennvisioned by the devotees of the three main monotheistic religions is internally inconsistent and contradictory.

If I might ask, why do you bring up three religions now when you’ve focused almost entirely on Christianity? Seems to me you should give us some examples of the others that you have problems with. Or, at least, not lump them in all together after focusing on one target.

Anyway, thanks for your contributions. I’ve yet to see how they counted as contradictory, though. I’m always open to more examples. So far this has been rather easy.

    Tyris.

Sorry for the late reply. Now this thread is on the second page you probably won’t even get around to reading this so I’ll keep it short and simple.

Correct. Just to remind everyone, Smallpox killed five hundred million people in the 20th century alone. That’s over 80 holocausts worth. Many of these victims were children and babies. Smallpox is an excruciatingly painful way to die.

Here’s where you slip. You assume that, because of the aforementioned ‘four traits’, that God must, by necessity, somehow magically insert His all-powerful hand into the mix in some sort of miraculous event that saves all humanity from a mere disease.

Actually, my take on it is that an omnipotent, omniscient, omnibenevloent and omnipresent God wouldn’t have created Smallpox in the first place. The disease has been with us for millennia and has killed more people than currently walk the earth. It is no “mere” disease. It is a curse that blights the innocent and condemns them to agonizing deaths for no reason at all. Great design, big guy!

Fitting then, that another almost identical to it would bring about its end.

None of this in any way, shape, or form justifies the existence of Smallpox or substantiates the existence of God. What you describe is a story of purely human ingenuity and you cheapen the achievements of all the men and women involved by insinuating that God had anything to do with it.

But let’s say that it was all part of Gods divine plan that billions upon billions of people would die excruciating deaths just so one day a select group of human beings could surmount the challenges posed by Smallpox. This doesn’t solve the contradiction, it merely sidesteps it. If God could imagine no way to impart his lesson that didn’t involve the deaths of billions of people from Smallpox, he isn’t all powerful. If God could imagine such a way but chose not to do it, he isn’t omnibenevolent. The contradiction is still there, and God still stands indicted as the creator of the deadliest disease of all time. In fact, God stands condemned as the creator of all diseases, doesn’t he? Plague, Ebola, Filariasis, Lou Gehrig’s disease, Malaria, HIV, Legionnaire’s disease…I could quite literally go on all day.

Looks to me like God’s hand was quite present, in as much as a solution was already present.

But why was Smallpox allowed to exist at all? That’s the big question here.

There is also another concept inherent in Christian doctrine “Ask and you shall receive”. Think of the old men and women left in New Orleans when the levy’s broke, who fled to their attics to escape the rising waters only to be slowly drowned there. These were good people who had prayed throughout their lives. Where was their God in their hour of need? According to you, he was kicking it in Paradise going “Well, you made the bed, you lie in it!” Interestingly enough, the effect of his decision is indistinguishable from what would have transpired if he didn’t exist at all.

Bottom line: God had the power to lessen the force of Hurricane Katrina without impinging on anyone’s free will, yet he didn’t. Either he couldn’t, didn’t know how, or didn’t care to. Any of these options invalidates the Christian conception of him.

Ah, see, there’s the rub. This is what it REALLY comes down to, I believe, the assumption of intent. This is where most atheists and anti-theists get tripped up, because they believe that THEIR morality is superior to God’s (not saying that’s true of you, but it is of many).

I see no reason to believe that God has a moral compass.

If humans were allowed to make choices, both good and bad, but every time they made a bad one, God would step in and save them from the consequences, what would that do?

I’m not talking about choices humans are allowed to make. I’m talking about the negative effects of conditions of living forced upon humans by God. If a busload of nuns and virgins gets cooked by a volcanic eruption, that’s God’s fault and no-one elses.

And what of those people who wanted to leave New Orleans but physically couldn’t? What are they, collateral damage?

Anyway, this is beside the point. Needless suffering is suppposedly anathema to an omnibenevolent God. If such a God had lessons to teach us, but couldn’t figure out a way to do it that didn’t involve the deaths of over a thousand people, he is not omnipotent. If he could, but chose not to, he is not omnibenevolent. Either way, we’re right back where we started, with an internal contradiction in the fundamental nature of God.

If a child of yours died in unbelief you would have to concede that while you were enjoying Heaven, he or she would be getting toasted in Hell. Do you think you could be perfectly happy in Heaven knowing that your own son or daughter was rotting in Hell for the “crime” of simple unbelief? Wouldn’t that make you angry with God?

You’re confusing human morality with divine. If you want to be anally specific, that is, go by the Law, then yes. The Law says “You do this, you get punished for it.” It doesn’t differentiate much between things, there’s a set line you don’t cross. Cross it with a toe or by leaping as far across as possible, you face the consequences.

If divine morality sanctions infinite punishment for finite sins then it is utterly inferior to human morality and I would have no problem calling God an evil monster who was worse than Hitler, Stalin, Mao, and Pol Pot combined and multiplied to the nth power. Any “morality” which doesn’t distinguish between a petty thief and Josef Stalin is not worthy of the designation. Any morality which would punish someone with eternal torment, simply for choosing not to believe in God, is the morality of a megalomaniacal psychopath and which should be resisted at every turn.

God can be both perfectly just AND perfectly forgiving. Most people focus on the former and pay no attention to the latter.

I’m sorry, you’ve lost me. A perfectly Just God would sentence Hitler to some sort of punishment (not necessarily eternal, but something). A perfectly forgiving God would let him waltz right through the pearly gates to sit next to his victims. He can’t be both, so that’s another contradiction.

I’m going to go with the belief that such a thing is an aspect of nurture rather than nature–ie, Choice. That whole Free Will thing, you know. It’s not hardcoded, ergo, it must be learned. And if someone chooses to do that which has been proscribed as wrong, well, there will no doubt be consequences.

Good luck finding an actual gay person who agrees with this assessment. Regardless of the causes of homosexuality, it is not commonly regarded as somethings someone would have a choice about. Why would anyone choose to be gay in a society which ostracises them and treats them as second class citizens? I think it’s far more likely that there is a genetic component to homosexuality which will be discovered in due course. Besides, this is all rather irrelevant to the central question which was “Why does God have such a beef with gay people?”

If I might ask, why do you bring up three religions now when you’ve focused almost entirely on Christianity? Seems to me you should give us some examples of the others that you have problems with. Or, at least, not lump them in all together after focusing on one target.

It’s the one I’m most familiar with and the one the majority of this site’s regulars adhere to. With a little tweaking, my arguments could apply equally well to Allah.
