The Zhamnestistas will let the pro-American Senators submit a list of amendments to the Bill that will later be voted down if they in any way interfere with Jorge McArbusto getting his immediate 24-hour Amnesty for criminals. Furthermore, any amendments that actually are allowed to pass will be stripped back out in committee after the Bill has passed the Senate and House.

THEN, in return for amendments that won’t pass, the Bribed Senators will vote in favor of cloture which will, in effect, pass the Zhamnesty of ‘07, since it’ll only need 51 votes after that.

And THEN, in the sneakiest move of all, they’ll count up how many votes they have above 51, so that RINOs with “troublesome” districts can be allowed to cast a symbolic “nay” vote against the Bill in a pathetic and shameless attempt to fool their voters.

How do we know? Because it’s obvious AND because inside sources have told us so.

Shove it up your arses, you incumbent snortweasels, that ain’t the way it works.

ANY VOTE FOR CLOTURE IS A VOTE FOR AMNESTY, PERIOD.

And you’d damn well better believe that it’ll have consequences, come election time.

    I remain, and will remain completely opposed to any “comprehensive” immigration reform bill. The nation does not need such a bill. The United States needs secure borders, period! Only after the borders are secure, starting with the completely open border with mexico, will I be willing to even think about any “Guest Worker” program. It should be a FELONY to enter the United States illegally, to hire a person in the US illegally, to provide ANY taxpayer funded assistance to a person in the US illegally. Anyone caught in the US illegally should have their fingerprints, DNA scan and retnal scan taken when arrested, and then be deported the next day, and never be allowed into the United States again. If they are caught in the US illegally again, it should be 5 years at hard labour. I do not care what amendments to the present bill to destroy the national sovereignty are allowed to be added to bribe Senators who should know better into voting for it. We know those amendments will be stripped out, we know the enforcement part of this treasonous bill will never be enforced, and that for some reason the President, who I voted for twice and used to defend, has evidently lost his mind about this issue. Perhaps he has forgotten the he is the President of the United States of America, and not the supposed president of the failed third world state known as mexico. I oppose this bill, and any other so-called “comprehensive” bill.     Honestly, I don’t think the phone calls will do anything. The government does not listen any more. The sheer volume of illegal aliens who will suddenly have citizenship (or will by the time elctions roll around) will compensate for the number of votes lost due to angry Americans who are fed up with it. The number of illegals will likely double over the next year after this passes. So the government has no need to listen to honest citizens anymore.

    I have of late become aware of a congressional attempt to do an end run around the recent defeat of the amnesty bill, inappropriatly misnamed immigration reform. I am not deceived for one second and remain infuriated by what I call an act of treason. Nor am I deceived by some members and both parties of congress attempting to run cover for those in shaky districts by providing them an out with a no vote of no consequence. Any member of congress voting for cloture in my book is voting for the bill and will be remembered accordingly on election day. National sovereignty is a single, defining issue for me……….I took an oath once to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States of America…never dreamng it would refer to Congress. Now, apparently, it has and does.

    This is off-topic, but I think important. I had caught something in an earlier post of yours that I violently disagreed with about liberty. You had said that only the people with guns would bother to defend liberty. I have to strenuously disagree. There are a lot of people who greatly value their liberty, but don’t have guns. Obviously, it’s easier to fight back if you have a gun, but hey–I can set fires, I have an axe, I have access to a lot of poisons and various acids. I could act as a decoy. I would bet my life that a high proportion of people without guns value their liberty and would fight for it.

    There was a study done back in the mid 90’s about the attitudes of the military. The prof who did it was a lefty type who was concerned about the military being to “right wing”. One of the questions was a scenario about abolition of firearms ownership and citizens refusing to turn them in, the question was “would you fire on US citizens”. Not only was the response 95% no, but there were many notes in the margins like “third choice, FUCK NO!” etc.

    Our war fighters know what they are fighting for, and know who the enemy is.

He and Blanco royally screwed up that whole situation from the moment Katrina was predicted to hit the coast. He’s still in denial…but Blanco had the sense to know her ass was going to be out on the street next election, so she decided not to humiliate herself further and is bowing out with only one term.

    Yeah, cramming M-4s into law-abiding American citizens’ faces apparently did the trick without requiring trigger-pulling. But had one of those citizens resisted, then what the hell were they gonna use, man? Harsh language? I was about as staunch a pro-US military guy as they come–hell, I even tried to enlist in the Marines several years ago (DQ’d due to blood pressure, dammit; still not much better these days despite being in better shape)–but that one episode in New Orleans gave me reason to rethink the results of that study you cited. Unfortunately, I don’t believe the stretch between what happened and would could have happened is as far as you believe.

    Regarding the amnesty crapolla, multiple people have made the excellent suggestion of contacting one’s representative given the fact that this solid waste will likely pass the senate. I’m already composing a letter to my rep Ric Keller within my head. I’ll finish it this weekend and will be CC:ing it to Nelson and Martinez as well as to the group here.

    Not at all Perp, and I know exactly where yer comin from with yer concerns. My point is that Katrina was a unique situation in that it was a natural disaster, so there was a different mindset. And the publicity that has gotten since then, with a few states (including ours FL) having passed legislation against it (confiscating guns during emergencies).

    Switch to the scenario where the gummint out right bans guns and sends the troops out to get em, that’s when the military will go dead mic and stand down.

    Oh, another point, most of the confiscation was done by the NOPD, not the Guard. A lot of the guardsmen were actually unarmed, at least if my memory hasn’t totally shit on me.

    It’s not my intent upon being a contrarian ass, but forcibly disarming American citizens was unique. My worry is that doing so again without the storm occurrence will now be even less so given this precedence.

    Considering what was happening in NOLA during that time, the lawlessness taking place was astronomical. Even the police were looting. Rescue workers were getting shot at. People were going apeshit down there. It got to the point that the National Guard had to do something to protect themselves in order to continue the rescue and recovery process. It’s difficult to know just exactly what brought on the decision to do what they did, but one is that with NO law enforcement element present (most of the police just flat fled because they had no desire to do their jobs or get shot at by the criminals left behind) the National Guard had to step into that void. Plus with Willy Wonka Nagin running around with his head up his ass (when he wasn’t trying to kiss Blanco’s) there wasn’t very many people left in authority who had the brains to figure out what to do.

    I’m not saying it was right that they did it…but considering all the crap that was hitting the fans down there, the Guard may have had to just do what they were told and hope that someone with a brain finally took over and set things right.

    I honestly don’t think that mainline law enforcement and military will go along with that bullshit. Military took an oath to protect and defend from all enemies foreign AND domestic…and as a Retired USAF Vet told me not long ago…that includes Congress and the President if they are violating the Constitution. They become the enemy.

    Bingo! This National Guard Soldier sure as fuck won’t be going along with that bullshit!

    As for Louisiana… I was there in 2005. Yes, we had weapons, but our unit was instructed NOT to lock and load. Additionally, when we got our ROE brief when we first arrived, we were specifically instructed by the Louisiana JAG NOT to confiscate weapons from citizens. We were told specifically that the citizens have the right to keep and bear arms, and unless we saw a crime happening, we were not allowed to disarm. Period. I believe, if memory serves, that the guys who were present during the confiscations were NOT doing the confiscating, but merely providing security and securing the perimeter. I don’t remember any NG folks confiscating weapons.

    On the issue of U.S. soldiers going storm trooper on locals–I hate to say it, ’cause I revere our military, but if they get orders to treat civilians as the enemy, for the most part, they will. See, e.g., Kent State, Waco, Ruby Ridge, and yes, NOLA (don’t flame me about some of those being FBI and ATF–if you think there’s a meaningful difference, you’ve drunk the Feds’ KoolAide). I don’t think it’s because soldiers have no initiative or are inherently authoritarian, but they will follow orders until shown they are wrong. If citizens are shooting at or around them and they’re being told the citizens are the enemy, soldiers will do what they’re trained to do and won’t be terribly discriminating about it.

    LC Mrs. M-ITT gives the convenient general lawlessness excuse, but that has turned out to be a media wive’s tale. Though looting was a major problem, stories of shooting at rescue workers and choppers, like the bs about carnage in the StuporDome, have turned out to be hysterical hearsay and politicized lies. Did people hear shots and worry–probably. Did anyone get shot at that didn’t deserve it–evidence and reliable first hand accounts (like from actual rescue workers and soldiers) indicate none or very, very little. People were being told these things, not seeing them.

    History says that decent Folks will have to lay low, befriend soldiers and law enforcement, give up no information about arms and only take action in extremis. As nicki_f points out, it may not have been NGs directly doing confiscations- -first person accounts and film I’ve seen showed NoPD and out-of-state LEOs stompin’ citizens’ rights (Californicators, being the most egregious–hmm, surprise surprise). Problem is, if the citizen fought back, as we have the right to do in La., who was providing “security”? I have a cousin who got an M4 in the face for walking towards home on the GNO bridge approach, instead of the way an NG wanted him to go. No, not shot, but he wasn’t stupid enough to tell the NG what he had the right to–”F Off.”

    BTW, while media and the usual leftard suspects are painting the Sportsman’s Lounge debacle in the worst light for law enforcement, this smells like a well worn “zuitcase” (aka lawsuit) scam. That bar is in the pit of the heart of darkness. Remember the 5 teen gangbangers that got capped by a few of their opposite numbers about a year ago (oh the horror, the children– NOT)–about 5-6 blocks from Elloie’s place. Sure, folks have the right to live and congregate peacefully anywhere they want (though it makes it highly unlikely the clientele are the sunday-schoolers the press is making them out to be), but if a couple of gang-bangers run through a business and you stonewall the cops in hot pursuit, you’re gonna get some rough treatment. Elloie’s story and his “witnesses” are full of it. It wouldn’t surprise me if the NoPD overreached though either. So we’re full circle and the bottom line is, you’ve gotta be prepared to take care of yourself against pretty much all comers. One case of ammo for each gun probably isn’t enough.
