We’re constantly bombarded with blather from the RINO pro-Amnesty crowd and their enablers in the MSM about how the majority of Americans just love the “comprehensive immigration reform” also known as the Zhamnesty of ‘07. Of course, when you dig into the actual questions asked in those polls, it invariably comes down to something along the lines of “do you prefer McCain/Kennedy’s attempt to secure the borders and reform our immigration system, or are you a Nazi, child-murdering, racist who wants to round up infants in the middle of the night, Elian-style, carve them up with a flensing knife and sell their organs for medical research?”

And then we have organizations trying to honestly find out where people stand:

Just 20% of American voters want Congress to try and pass the immigration reform bill that failed in the Senate last week. A Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that 51% would like their legislators to “take smaller steps towards reform” while 16% believe they should wait until next year. The survey was conducted on Monday and Tuesday night as the President was publicly attempting to rally support for the legislation.

Sixty-nine percent (69%) of voters would favor an approach that focuses exclusively on “exclusively on securing the border and reducing illegal immigration.” Support for the enforcement only approach comes from 84% of Republicans, 55% of Democrats, and 69% of those not affiliated with either major party.

Overall, just 21% are opposed to the enforcement-only approach.

Yup. That there is one popular Senate Bill alright…

Somebody might want to hand the Senate the memo.

So why don’t you, right now?

Kinda reminds me of me and my brothers, we’d fight like cats and dogs between ourselves, but let some outsider asshole stick his nose in, and we’d all turn on him as one and kick his ass, then go back to what we were doing.

Left and Right need to come together and kick the governments ass on this one, let ‘em know who is boss and then we can go back to our petty squabbles.

Those that would call themselves our masters are really to full of their own invincibly arrogant stupidity to realize what kind of a cliff they are about to step off of.

They really think they can get away with this.

    Exactly, Kristopher!

Which is preferable? Getting them to stop from passing that heap of manure through civil, peaceful and constant, unrelenting pressure NOW or having to deal with it in other ways after it has been passed?

Because, one way or the other, this Federal overreaching and tyranny has to be dealt with.

I don’t want to find myself in a second Civil War without knowing, at the very bottom of my heart, that I’d tried EVERY reasonable peaceful method of avoiding it first.

For once I’m almost encouraged by what I’m seeing happen in this country in a hell of a long time.

The gov’t is slinging mud at the peons, telling us we’re afraid of brown people and are racists, and we aren’t caving in.

The Senate isn’t going to listen to anyone and will pass their bill. It’s going to get interesting when it gets back to the House. The general population is starting to grasp the fact that they will write a law, then come up with an excuse not to fund it. Nobody believes them anymore, so right now it’s still “Trust, but verify”, but I think most in Congress realize that the people are saying this is their last chance.

G-d, I’m such an optimist sometimes.

Incidentally, the following was delivered via email form to both Hutchinson & Cornyn of Texas a couple days ago:

Senator - or should I say, Senior-Housed piece of Congresscrap:

As a resident of the state of Texas, I am one of your constituents - and, I might remind you, -*one of your bosses*-, as well.

I am going to state this as clearly as I can manage - and I will try to stick to one-syllable words so you can understand.

YOU WILL NOT, NO MATTER WHAT, DO ANY THING TO HELP PASS THE AMNESTY BILL NOW BACK ON THE CALENDAR IN THE SENATE.

Obviously, it’s plain as day that you people up there did not understand the American people the first time. We are not willing for, nor desirous of, conversation regarding any so-called “guest-worker program” “fine”, “Z-visa”, “jobs Americans won’t do” (which is a complete crock, and don’t insult my intelligence by so much as suggesting otherwise), or any other topic concerning ILLEGAL ALIENS until, and unless, the borders of the United States of America are secured FIRST, and then all good-faith efforts are undertaken to send all ILLEGAL ALIENS now occupying space in this country BACK TO THEIR PLACE OF ORIGIN.

Let me make myself equally clear on this point: If this stench-of-a-bill becomes law, I will hold both you and your counterpart responsible. And I will not only not vote for either of you ever again, I will -*actively*- support your opponent - whether it be a Republican in the primary, or a Democrat in the general election. If Texas is going to be represented by cowards in the Senate, I will do all that is in my power to make sure they have “D”s by their names.

Each of your political careers are on the line here. I would suggest you listen to your constituency, as opposed to John McCain, Ted Kennedy or George W. Bush.

Get to work and defeat this bill. NOW.

(Yes, I was attempting to be polite.  Why do you ask?)

Hey! Have you been reading my emails to MY “D” Congresswomen Feinstein and Boxer? Sure looks that way to me? I told my two bozos the same exact thing, in almost the same exact wording! Boxer opposes the bill because of the “guest worker program”, something I find funny because of all of the big tech companies in CA who WANT the guest worker program so they can hire college grads from overseas to work here for peanuts! You know they’re giving to political campaigns, and not just one party but both!

I still think it’s high time to form a third political party! Email, organize, and take over at the next election. If we can’t derail Shamnesty 07, then take over in 2008 and revoke it then!

This bill is only about legalizing just about every one that gets into this country for cheap labor and/or getting their votes. Enforcement will be lax if it will be done at all (Except a few raids just for appearances). And, We really don’t need to do much more than tweak and actually execute existing laws enacted in the ‘86 amnesty bill.

For example, the IRS already knows which businesses are submitting fraudulant, duplicate or erroneous SSNs with their payroll taxes. For years the IRS has been issuing letters back to these businesses informing of the infractions and the fines and penalties which are possible without correction.

Only thing is, the IRS will not actually fine the $50 per infraction, lest the businesses actually have to report and/or let go of the employees with fraudulen SSN cards, thereby drying up all the payroll taxes paid to the IRS. Also, the IRS, deliberately misinterpreting privacy laws, will not share this information with Homeland Security to allow them to make followup investigation for immigration enforcement.

    Financially or Socially.

Socially, I don’t think we are really in any danger. I am not afraid of new cultures, or even the homogenization of cultures.

Instead, I fear of the shrinking of the middle class, which appears to be the goal and endgame here.

Follow the money. Who is actually pushing this immigration bill? It’s the Chamber of Commerce and big business. They give millions of dollars to our politicians and like the whores they are, they are willing to bend over to their will.

As long as we allow corporations to donate money to the campaign funds, we are going to end up with prostitute politicians. If we ever need a reason for public financing of campaigns, this is it. I want a congresscritter or president that thinks of the people, NOT the corporations who put his or her ass in office.

We had a bankruptcy bill written word-for-word by the credit card companies. We had a Prescription drug legislation written by the pharmaceutical companies. The list goes on and on. Now we have big business pushing us to accept a glut of cheap labor into this country because they want a two-class society: Working poor (slaves) and an investor class (owners).

We COULD, if we were the slightest bit interested in actually assimilating them, which we’re not (as a nation). Heck, you can’t even ask them to learn the language without being called a Nazi child-murdering raaaaaaaaaaaacist anymore. It’s fucking ridiculous.

How would you (the general “you”, not you specifically, Deej), feel if I were to start screaming and hollering, demanding TV, radio, newspapers and every last fucking government document translated into Danish? Then add Swahili, Croatian, fwench, German, Polish, Urdu, Farsi, Arabic, Slovenian, Polish, Czech, Hungarian, Finnish, Swedish, Norwegian, Dutch, Flemish, Italian, Greek, Albanian, Bulgarian, Hebrew, Turkish, Thai, Korean, Chinese, Vietnamese, Japanese, Tagalog into the mix. Did I leave anybody out? Damn, I’m a RAAAAAAAAAAAACIST!!!

THAT’S the problem, Deej. I’m all in favor of immigration, it’s what made this country the wonderful, rich, brilliant, filthy rich country that it is, but it was done by the ones coming here wanting to COME here, not just take their little piece of the world and demand that we turn the U.S. of A. into it.

If they love it so fucking much, then why the everloving fucking Hades didn’t they STAY? I don’t get it. I. Just. Don’t. Get it. If I loved Denmark so much that I thought that everybody should watch soccer, speak Danish, drink Tuborg, pay 80% in taxes and eat marinated herring all day, THEN I’D FUCKING WELL HAVE STAYED.

But I didn’t. I wanted to live, have a family, grow old and die in America and, in return for being given the opportunity by this wonderful nation, it fucking well BEHOOVED me to BECOME an American. At least that’s how I was brought up, but obviously that doesn’t mean Jack anymore. Loyalty, gratitude and polity have been thrown out with the rest of the trash because it blocked the way to the Holy Altar of Me, Me, Me, MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

And it is DISGUSTING, it makes me fucking SICK, and I want absolutely NOTHING to do with ill-bred, peasant boors who feel that way. I’m afraid their narcissistic, egotistical, filthy poor manners and idiocy would rub off on me and turn me into a whining turd like they are.

And no, becoming an American didn’t mean me giving up my heritage or pissing on the graves and traditions of my ancestors, I don’t feel oppressed by brutal racists demeaning my native culture. I’m proud of my heritage, I love my native country and the people who live there, and I’ll be a Dane until the day that I die.

But I also am, and will always be an American FIRST.

If I felt any other way, I’d be packing my suitcase right now, because I wouldn’t deserve the hospitality and acceptance of my new countrymen.

We COULD, if we were the slightest bit interested in actually assimilating them, which we’re not (as a nation).

Maybe I could have been a tad more clear. I really meant taking a cheap labor hit of 10 - 20 million people.

This isn’t a case of illegals “doing the work Americans won’t do…”. Perhaps if they completed the sentence by adding, “…for a third of the prevailing wage”. THEN that statement might be true. Americans aren’t willing to take a half, or even two-thirds pay cut. Make no mistake about it: This is about injecting cheap labor into our economy by flooding the labor market with people who are willing to work for substantially less than Americans who have been working these jobs for generations.

I get fed up by hearing that our high tech industry is so short on qualified workers that they have to import them from India. I know of at least sixty qualified American computer people who cannot find work because they are now competing with hundreds of foreign workers who have been imported to work these jobs for less money.

How many industry jobs have been infiltrated by illegal aliens willing to work for half or a third of what Americans have traditionally been paid?

The fact is, if employers were forced to pay the foreign workers the same amount they would have to pay an American worker, then there wouldn’t be a “shortage” of American workers, and the NEED to import workers wouldn’t exist.

Better yet, employers should have to pay a foreign worker MORE money than an American, then the government should take the difference in a foreign worker tax to cover the added burden on government services. I think you would suddenly see the “need” for foreign workers dry up overnight.

Am I being ‘racist’ for thinking like this? Nope. I am being practical. Just as I think that we should replace tarifs on foreign made goods to protect our own economy, I also think that there should be a tarif on foreign labor as well. If goods and services are being sold in this country, it should be done by American workers. This doesn’t mean that an American company can’t sell goods in another country — use the labor force of THAT country to manufacture the goods sold in that country. It is already that way in most countries. We can’t sell OUR goods in China without having to pay a huge tarif, yet China can sell goods to us for practically nothing?

How would you (the general “you”, not you specifically, Deej), feel if I were to start screaming and hollering, demanding TV, radio, newspapers and every last fucking government document translated into Danish?

Personally? Aren’t there already Danish publications? And aren’t there already government documents translated into Danish? But I see your point, and I agree with you ninety percent. I think that if you plan to make it here in this country, you should take the effort to learn the language. But I certainly won’t tell you that you can’t speak Danish just because you are in America. I am also not going to force you to speak American either. Part of the freedoms we have here is the freedom to go through life not understanding what the guy next to you is telling you. You remain in ignorance at your own peril, if you ask me.

If I loved Denmark so much that I thought that everybody should watch soccer, speak Danish, drink Tuborg, pay 80% in taxes and eat marinated herring all day, THEN I’D FUCKING WELL HAVE STAYED.

Which one bothered you the most? I’m going with the eating marinated herring all day, myself. egads.

At least that’s how I was brought up, but obviously that doesn’t mean Jack anymore.

I hate to break it to you, but most people born here take these things for granted. We don’t even notice until something is taken away from us.

    DJ, Misha
Please don’t take this as an indication that I’m in favor of having swarms of illegal aliens. I think DJ is totally right about the wage issue, and Caveman has said as much.

I do want to comment on the only speaking Spanish thing. My mother learned English, probably at the Stars and Stripes office she worked in. With the immigration of several ethnic groups in the past (Italians, Eastern Europeans), the immigrants kept their old language, while the kids learned English and assimilated. (Although they didn’t insist everbody make documents in their language.) I suspect it would be the same thing here. However, I do think it is reasonable and would benefit the person to learn English.

Also, there is one class of jobs that Americans don’t want to do, and that is farm labor. Maybe if they tripled the pay, but we like cheap food. With the recent crackdown on illegals, fruit rotted on the trees out here, because there was no one to pick it. Also, picking vegetables in the heat of the summer is really nasty work–a couple illegals died doing it. (In one case, the foreman wouldn’t let anybody take the guy to the hospital.)

By the way, I adore pickled herring and usually buy the jumbo jar (it might be the German ancestry). Misha–do you know about Solvang? A lot of Danish people live there, and it’s made up to look Danish. (kind of a tourist trap, but thehandmade chocolate to die for).

    Dj and Misha
I spent an hour and a half on a post I was afraid to post. I didn’t want a rash of dog bites. Here are a couple things.

I think DJ is totally right about the cheap labor thing.

However, I can’t see a lot of Americans picking lettuce in 100 degree weather. A couple of illegals died doing that. With some crackdown on illegals, fruit rotted on the trees out here because there was no one to pick it. Maybe we can have the kind of Visa that they have for the Georgia peach crop where people come and work and then go back to Mexico.

As far as the not learning English thing, there is a history in this country of waves of immigrants (Italian, Eastern European) of the parents only speaking their native tongue, and their children learning English and assimilating. (Yes, it is annoying that they want everything in Spanish)

This is true, and there are many people who cross the border to pick and then go home. It has been that way for generations.

But things have changed, and jobs that Americans WILL do are being undercut by swarms of immigrants — legal and illegal — who will work for sub-standard wages. In fact, many large corporations deliberately go down into Mexico to recruit workers and encourage them to cross the borders.

I get fed up by hearing that our high tech industry is so short on qualified workers that they have to import them from India. I know of at least sixty qualified American computer people who cannot find work because they are now competing with hundreds of foreign workers who have been imported to work these jobs for less money.

I’ve had the misfortune of seeing this first-hand: my father is an IT technician who hasn’t worked in the IT field for years precisely because of this. So no, I don’t buy that horsecrap line about “not enough qualified IT workers in this country” when it’s being pitched to justify insourcing.

When my father is finally employed again in the IT field, then maybe I’ll reconsider. But until then, I continue to call bullshit.

My best friend is a senior mechanical engineer with thirty years experience. He cannot get a job at a decent wage for his field. That has been true for years. Fortunately he is also an inventor and his wife has a killer well paid job. And there are plenty of Indian and Asian engineers finding work…..
This hits all classes. I have to compete for my job sometimes, not speaking Spanish. Fortunately I know my job well and am reliable, honest and loyal. I do get tired of transient aliens ripping off everything not nailed down, then taking off for parts unknown….

Here is where I probably detract from most people here: I don’t blame the illegal (or even the legal) aliens. Most are coming here to make a better life for themselves. Most are Mexican who cannot find work in Mexico and are lured here because there is money available.

Does this mean I WANT them to come up here?

Of course not. I would much rather see our government put pressure on Mexico to provide opportunities for their own people. Right now, the second highest source of income in Mexico is money sent down there from workers up here. For an oil rich country, most of that money is horded at the top of the economic chain, and never reaches the people down below.

    Absolutely.

As to the tariff part… Er… The mere word “tariff” makes be break out in hives. I will say, however, that when other countries hit us with tariffs, we should reciprocate. Hard. We agree on that completely. Free trade is a two-way street, or at least it has to be in order for it to work as intended.

Personally? Aren’t there already Danish publications? And aren’t there already government documents translated into Danish?

I haven’t seen any, and if I did, I should be forced to write a rather long and vicious letter to my local government twits, telling them to quit wasting MY money on frivolous shit.

Nor would I. People can talk whatever gobbledygook their little hearts desire. I’m rather partial to my own particular brand of gibberish as well and enjoy exercising it on the rare occasions that I have a chance to.

That’s not what I’m saying. What I am saying that I find it offensive in the extreme when their desire to speak their native tongue places an undue and unnecessary burden on me. If they want Spanish or Croatian TV, by all means. Let them pay for it. If they want translations of government docs, let them pay for it.

And if they refuse to learn English, well then that’s their right too.

And it should be my right to refuse to associate or do business with them as a result.

I am of German descent (and despise potatoes), but LOVE pickled herring. I buy the jumbo jars. Have you heard of Solvang? It’s a city with a lot of Danes and pseudo-Danish architecture. I think that’s why they have the biggest jars of herring I have ever seen. Oh, and the most incredible handmade chocolates. They are expensive, and I am diabetic, so I do not have the relationship with them I would like.

If you ever want to come out here, let me know. There are tons of places to taste wine (”Sideways” was filmed here). And there is Ostrichland–which surprisingly has ostriches running around! You can feed them–it’s fascinating. We could even put you up, if we could persuade the dog not to be aggressive towards you. (He’s a 50 lb Australian kelpie–not very scary)

I will say, however, that when other countries hit us with tariffs, we should reciprocate. Hard. We agree on that completely.

Yes, if other countries impose tariffs on us, we should at least match those tariffs.

At the inception of this country, it relied on tariffs rather than taxes for its revenue. But then we had to pay for a war or two, so we started taxing ourselves to pay for it.

I haven’t seen any, and if I did, I should be forced to write a rather long and vicious letter to my local government twits, telling them to quit wasting MY money on frivolous shit.

I suspect that your share of taxes being spent on any of this could fit somewhere between the date and the mint mark on a penny. I can think of a lot of other things our government spends our money on that bother me more, but even those things don’t really amount to much from yours and my share of money we give Uncle Sam.

If they want translations of government docs, let them pay for it.

And they do. They pay taxes also.

If it makes you feel better, consider that the tiny portion of taxes they pay goes to printing government documents in their language, while the same amount YOU pay goes to something that you benefit from. This is what makes ME feel better about some of the things the government spends “my” money on. So I just pretend that MY money is going towards those things I approve of.

The herrings are good. Very, very good.

I like herring too, but not enough to eat it all day every day.

As you know, I had all of my teeth pulled out almost three weeks ago. I have been eating nothing but Copper River Salmon for the past three weeks because I can gum it. (A bit spendy, at $9.99 per pound, but well worth it.) I am not yet sick of fish, but I can see the day coming soon. I get my new teeth installed in exactly a month, so I will be back to eating ’solid’, turf-walking creatures again soon.

Why are they making you wait so long? Shouldn’t your gums have healed by then?

The teeth they gave me were immediate delivery, but were also only temporary. They didn’t fit, so they were unusable. Not all that unusual, I was warned that it might be the case.

The ultimate result is that I am getting implanted titanium studs with a whole new set of denture fitted after my gums have healed fully. For the most part, they are pretty much healed. I just can’t use the temporary teeth because they don’t fit.

Tomorrow, I go back in to the dentist for the implantation of the titanium studs. I have already had the impressions for the new teeth, and I will have the new ones delivered on the 19th of July.

So sorry–sounds horrible. They pulled my husband’s gradually. He was kind of an asshole for awhile.

I opted to have them all pulled at once. I have a high threshold of pain, so it wasn’t all that big of a deal. (being a cancer surviver several times in my life, and a few teeth ain’t nuthin’)

Actually I did send an e-mail to my state senators. I said that I am outraged that my government would consider giving amnesty to millions of illegals that have no intent to assimilate into our society.

Also, that I find it offensive that they would ignore the will of the American people and try to pass this travesty of a bill that is giving away the future of our children. And that I do not believe that conditions should be put in place to try to force the bill passing. Things like money to secure our borders!
