Oh yes, it’s time for some more gun pr0n.

Lyudmila finally got some decent German furniture, so no more plastic for her. Also, we figured that it was time to do something about the cheek weld, since nothing says “I care” better than a smooth, pleasant rest while you peek through your scope.

Damn, but that furniture gave us the warm and fuzzies. Nostalgia all over the place.

Oh… Right, the pr0n part (click for full size):

Obligatory deliberately scaaaary nutty comment: Can’t you just hear her whispering “soon, baby, soooooooon?” ;)

I’m with Deathknyte. Wood furniture is for the birds, but if you are happy, Misha, I am. You might want to get a decent sling (synthetic) so you can shoot prone and sitting. It makes life much easier.

    http://www.creedmoorsports.com/store/home.php

that scope is mounted WAY high, so you are stuck with either an ugly cheekpiece, or having a stock made. The cheek weld sucks on my M-1A with a scope. An adjustable wood cheekpiece would not be hard to make, and hardware for it is available from several sources.

    Gee, everyone’s a critic, huh? ;)

Well, I happen to like wood. Such a nice, warm feeling when you hold it. Oh, and a bit of nostalgia too, since that’s what the original Lyudmila was equipped with. Also, something that, I admit, isn’t much of an issue around these parts, wood doesn’t get brittle in hard frost and break. Synthetics sometimes do. Trust me, a 7.62 MBR with a broken and jagged stock is worth less than tits on a pound cake. Been there, done that, got a set of wood furniture ASAP thereafter.

The scope is mounted the only way a Hensoldt/STANAG mount can be mounted. Plus, it allows you to switch back and forth between optics and iron sights. However, a nice adjustable wooden stock would be wicked awesome. Some sort of cheekpiece is, however, highly recommended.

(As to sling: What do you mean “allowing me to shoot sitting and prone?” We did that all the time with a leather sling :) Regardless, I have been eyeing other slings lustily. You can never have too many, can you? This one, in particular, has my heart beating faster).

Misha, I know you like wood. A friend of mine’s wife is a stockmaker, and is rather partial to it herself.

I have never had problems with McMillan fiberglass stocks in extreme cold. If someone is not using fiber reinforcement, and a thick enough structural section, then it would be a problem.

I like the sling in your link: no leather, no stretch, no rot, no break. I use several cuff slings from

    http://www.tacticalintervention.com/

and they are a joy to use. Everyone has had the experience of shooting with a crappy leather military sling and making a for shit loop sling out of one. What a pain in the ass.

The Stanag mount is better than the 2′nd generation mount on my M1-A. Springfield Armory said machining the area of the rear sight to match the forward receiver, drilling and tapping, was the only way I was going to get a picatinny rail on it. This would have cost the better part of $500 before all was said and done. It’s sitting in my safe. I am just going to Loctite the fucking mount.

    Fantastically good question.

I’ve tested it, and it only happens when users without an avatar click on the “Upload your own personal Avatar” link right above the comment box.

If you click on the “Site Admin” link at the top of the left sidebar, however, then “Profile” and “Your Avatar”, it works just fine.

Which is silly, because the link goes to the exact same place.

Some tweaking needs to be done, I’m afraid.

Until then, try the link on the left sidebar instead. It ought to work perfectly.

There is no Danish inflection there. The pronunciation I mentioned was Russian which, given that it’s a Russian name, seemed somewhat appropriate to me :)

However, you can toss the soft “i” if you so desire. Your suggestion is, as a matter of fact, the preferred English way of pronouncing it. Not entirely correct, to be sure, but there is no danger of misunderstanding what you mean.
