or something (link via Best of the Web):

Members of six tribes recently gathered near the Baker River in the White Mountains for a sacred ceremony honoring “Earth Mother.” Talking Hawk, a Mohawk Indian who asked to be identified by his Indian name, pointed to the river’s tea-colored water as proof that the overwhelming amount of pollution humans have produced has caused changes around the globe.

“It’s August color. It’s not normal,” he said.

“Earth Mother is fighting back - not only from the four winds, but also from underneath,” he said. “Scientists call it global warming. We call it Earth Mother getting angry.”

The scientific consensus grows. 10 out of 10 tribal shamans agree: The Goreacle is right! So take that and shove it, you Evil Holocaust Global Warming Deniers.

The debate is over, and the Church of Gorebecility won.

Elsewhere, yet more victims of Angry Earth Mother™:

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon apparently doesn’t believe that the United Nations is mocked enough as he has said that the slaughter in Darfur was triggered by global climate change and that more such conflicts may be on the horizon, in an article published this weekend.

Now, before you get too harsh on poor Spanky Moon’s tender ego, consider what he replaced. Kaffir Annan was evil, corrupt and an imbecile. So far, his replacement has only proven to be an imbecile.

Watch out for the new tree hugger slogan: “Save Darfur, turn off the light!”

It makes sense, in some perverted, “logic need not apply”, liberal touchy-feely sort of way. Not only does blaming the genocide in Darfur on Global Wormening absolve the Useless Nitwits (and the Goreacle and his lobotomized Gorebeciles) of any duty to actually, you know, do something about Darfur and thus risk offending members of the religion of rancid piss, it also means that aging, patchouli-drenched hippies can drive around in their Priuses with “Save Darfur!” stickers on them while believing that they are contributing to something other than the decline of the national IQ average.

Is there anything that Global Wormening doesn’t cause?

Next week, our article: “How Polar Bears Adrift on Break-Away Lumps of Ice Caused 9/11.”

I think he is talking out his ass too. This kind of thing just scares kids out of their wits and leaves it for parents to clean up after. I remember some of this very stuff being told to me as a kid and freaking out about it. I also recall a mini series that was made in about 1990 that showed 20 years in the future (almost now — did I actually say that!) but global warming had ruined the planet, the Colorado river was dry and hurricanes battered the Gulf and Atlantic coasts about every 5 minutes. I can laugh now but it was scary for even an 18 year old. I think they should tell the kids that global warming is not scientifically proven to be caused by human activity.

We own 2 of them. I hate patchouli, and I think the goth tendencies and dressing all in black would argue against being a hippie, let alone the punk, grunge, and industrial music I favor. I like getting 50 mpg and commute, so it’s a good thing, even if it is hideous (I have a first generation, not one of the pods). Spouse got the newer one (isn’t the wife supposed to get the newer car, or is that sexist?)

It’s afternoon. The Tehachapi mountains loom in the east.

A hard summer sun is baking the already parched ground. 42,000 lbs of frozen produce is tracking nicely. A cloud of dense black exhaust is belching from

the stack. Except for the draconian “55 mph for trucks” speed limit, life is good. I should make Fresno in a little over two hours.

I notice a very small automobile in the left lane. The car slowly passes me. I squint to make out the model name.

    “Priapism”?

    “Putrid”?

Oh!… That’s a Prius. never actually saw one before. Wait a minute…there is a bumper sticker. Man, I really should get my eyes checked…what does it say….

Well, you are… a bit. Mheh.

Thing is, the joke wouldn’t have worked otherwise. You see, it’s a running joke around Evil Right Wing Death Beasts how leftard peacenik keep whining every single time we send the Marines to actually fix a problem, yet consider themselves righteous in their “fight” against fascism, genocide and oppression because of their “Free Tibet!” and “Save Darfur!” bumper stickers. (When was the last time a genocidal tyrant was brought down and a country freed by a bumper sticker halfway around the globe?).

    So the joke here is:

Save Darfur! bumper sticker on Prius –> Prius emits less CO2 –> Less CO2 means (according to Gorebecilic Myth) less global warming –> Less global warming means NO MORE WAR IN DARFUR, EVER!!!1!!! (and unicorns galloping in lush marshmallow meadows too, I presume).

Was it you that steps on the diversity pages on the ground? I always found that having a group of people from different backgrounds made things more intellectually stimulating. Or is there a different interpretation of it?

    OK–GLOBAL WARMING
It’s ridiculous to blame the situation in Darfur on global warming. downright foolish.

Just deleted an hour’s worth of work–not worth arguing about.

Last night’s thread (I think it was on Israel) got quite heated and interesting and ended with commentary on Ed Gein. My god, I knew who he was and had a vague idea of what he had done. I looked him up and creeped myself out, which is extremely rare. He was the definition of “disturbed.” I once had a boss who had the seen the foundation of his house. (It was considered evil and mysteriously burned down.)

Now, lets have a moment of silence for those 9 firefighters who died in Charleston when the roof collapsed on them.

Thanks for explaining humor to the humorless. Even around Santa Barbara, you don’t see a lot of bumper stickers on Priuses. I do believe global warming will be a major issue (no, I don’t want to argue forever!), but I thought the thing about global warming being responsible for Darfur was really stupid. So, the whole thing went over my head like a shooting star. And for the joke to make any sense, it would have to be a Prius. And I guess the hippie reference was to imply the bumper stickers? Ah, you are devious.

leoni2 - Yep, I was just mentioning to psychochick a few days ago about how the blizzard of ‘77 really brought out the “New Ice Age” crowd. However, if you also remember, there was a Global Warming crowd, even then. Soylent Green showed a world that must have been at least 10 degrees hotter than it is now, based on the first scenes in in the neighborhood around Charlton Heston’s apartment, and it was made in 1973.

psychochick - Misha’s explanation of the joke aside, you also have to keep firmly in mind that such comments, as well as others which might be coincidentally related to you and your life choices, when made on sites like this, are made in reference to the elitist, superior, screeching moonbat-type Liberal who would point to their superiority in the form of driving said Prius, usually as a prelude to denouncing us “knuckle-dragging Neanderthals” who don’t drive such things as “evil Rethuglicans bent on killing the planet”.

I have actually seen somewhere (too long ago to find it again) that the radicals who would behave that way are outnumbered by the more moderate types like you, but the radicals are perceived as the face of the group, because they are louder and more contentious, and thus get more attention (squeaky wheel syndrome).

Yep, I’m the diversity sign stepper-oner.
Diversity that exists naturally because each individual is different is fine. It’s real.
However, what we get on university campuses (and a lot of other areas of American society these days) is a forced and manufactured fake diversity. The Cult of Diversity seems to want diversity for diversity’s sake.

Another problem is that the Cult of Diversity seems to define diversity as, well, everybody adhering to leftist ideology. The result? No diversity, but a lot of money wasted on asinine diversity training and multiculturalism programs, and a bunch of students who are morally mushy.

The Cult of Diversity naturally ties in with the Cult of Self-esteem, which is one of the main causes for the epidemic of chronic depression as well as increased mediocrity in all fields in this country. But that’s another discussion…

PC - I make it a habit to scrutinize bumper stickers on cars (you have to do something to entertain yourself on long hauls). In these parts deep in blue territory, it’s almost a certainty that a Prius and most other hippie cars, Volvo, Saab, etc. have at least one Bushitler, Save the Whales, Think Globally yadda yadda have at least bumper sticker proclaiming the owner’s pet issue. Sometimes they appear to be using the non-sequitur of of the sticker to hold the collection of parts together.

I try to duck most “diversity training” which is actually re-education by another name. Most of this kind of training is designed to make white people feel bad just because they are white. Sure other races have been treated badly but what people do not understand is there is a major undercurrent of anti white discrimination as well as regional bias. I moved from Oklahoma to California in 2000, with impeccable references, marketable skills and a college degree and it still took me several months to find a job. I even applied at fast food joints like McD and others and never even got a call back for an interview. Finally I went to a job fair at a temp agency and got a temp job doing data entry. I wanted an office job and finally found one but at a cut rate and a temp position. I never had this problem back in Oklahoma or any other state I have lived in. The only area even close was when we lived in a small town in Idaho without many businesses. The last job I had paid about 7.50 an hour, it was at an outsourcing company that processed claims for Blue Cross. Before the job was outsourced it paid about 10.00 an hour with benefits. I did have insurance but it was somewhat crappy and we were paid piece rate, the fastest typist there made about 8.00.

These “diversity nuts” worship an odd kind of diversity. It’s diversity of outward characteristics. True diversity, that of ideas, is anathema to them. They’re OK with you being “different”, as long as it is a “safe” kind of difference: your clothes, your skin color, your ethnicity. I would fight for the newer Prius PC. I personally would either get the Ford SUV hybrid of the Toyota Camry hybrid if we were in the market for new vehicles. We got a 93 Cavilier convertible the other day to replace the one with the blown head gasket. It is a 6 cylindar turbo… just doing my part for the environment.

    To terrie smyth,

You want to know what is real interesting about Darfur? Things are a lot more complicated than we know. For example, the people of the Sudan, and that’s all of them, are Moslems. That’s right, they all pray to Allah. Seems that the MSM and the UN forgot to tell us that. All, hee hee hee, color wise, things are not what they seems.

Thanks to another site I go to on an almost daily basis, I’d found this article by a Mr. Alex de Waal, an expert on Sudan, who gives out the real causes for the probem in Darfur and Sudan. It’s a long, but interesting read, something you probably won’t be seeing in the New York Slime.

As for your local weather. Bwahahahahahahaha!!! Why am I thinking that Al “I’m an Bore” Gore is only thinking about the Northern Hempishere, aka The US, Canada and Western Europe, with his little con game? I mean, doesn’t global warming also effect the southern hemisphere? Or is it one of Officer Bob Brady’s ‘Move along, nothing to see here’ thing? I’m just asking.

    To WayneB,

Since I haven’t see Soylent Green, I can’t quote on it, but I’m not surprised some thought the world would get hotter. After all, there’s that old saying, ‘Some think the world will end in fire, some think it’ll end in ice.’ I’m just sure no one at that time thought that humanity, or rather the folks with the money, meaning us, was the culprits behind it. Excuse me but I need to get my Simon Le Greed outfit ready. ;) I mean, if folks are going to call me the villain here, I need to look the part, don’t I? ;)

I should just delete this, but I will resist the urge to be spineless and risk invective.

I guess the kind of diversity I was thinking of was to have people from a variety of backgrounds–makes things more stimulating and not every one in the world is left-wing.

I think the things that were done to black people (and Indians) in this country were horrible and upset me, but I feel no guilt. It was either before I was born or when I was a young child. I had nothing to do with it.

Up here, we also have conservative looking old people driving Priuses.

As to global warming, people are going to have different views. I’m not going to try to argue anyone out of their view, but I want to present the reasons for mine. The National Academy of Sciences contains the most prestigious scientists in the US (not me!). They periodically review issues and scrutinize data scrupulously. Their report is that the theory has validity. They are not a bunch of lefty fruitcakes, and I take them very seriously. I have not seen the Al Gore film. Of course, it would affect the whole world–some places would get more rain, some places less (us and the Mediterranean). And as to the unpredictability of weather forecasting, it is easier to predict long-term trends than to predict a particular storm. I would just say that not everyone concerned with global warming is a total idiot–it’s really not a liberal plot to fuck up the world. To me, it’s a scientific, not an ideological issue. I’m pretty sure if I were conservative, I would have the same position. I hope the theory is wrong–I really do. I’m not going to argue the ins and outs of the theory, and I’m going to work. Must we have a slaughter? I know it’s the Rott and all.

China is rapidly developing technology based on green industries. We should really start kicking ass in this area.

    Spartan
Sorry about your job experiences. You might have been overeducated. There wasn’t anyone around here doing biochemical research, and I was sick of moving every few years. So I tried for normal jobs. I was stupid–I didn’t make a dumbed down resume. A million administrative assistant positions and no one would hire me. I went the temp agency route, too, and did data entry–kind of soothing. Once I was working there, a couple places wanted to hire me, and one did.

    Leoni2
What does it matter if everyone involved in the Darfur crisis is Muslim? They are different ethnic groups (athough apparently the Arabs have started attacking other Arabs). It’s still a horrible slaughter.

That’s fine if it isn’t forced or manufactured. Unfortunately, what is meant by “diversity” on a university campus these days doesn’t have anything to do with merely allowing the natural diversity that already exists in the real world. The ideal world envisioned by the Cult of Diversity will never include somebody like me, a white, heterosexual, conservative, Christian male.

Hate to be the obnoxious asshole here, but I do not see any convincing evidence that the fluctuations in global temperatures are man-made. Sure, there is a lot of noise from the usual suspects (as I call them, the whining classes), and the hockey-stick model is flown on a banner like some freakish kind of idol to be worshiped… There is GoreBot peddling his Ponzi scheme… The dumb Hollywood skank (forgot her name) who doesn’t wipe her ass and seems to take immense pride in it… The list is endless.

But there is plenty of scientific evidence, without the hype, that Earth goes through natural cycles of significant warming and cooling. About 1220-1600 years in duration… Not MAN_MADE. So, fuck Gore and his offset scam. Fuck little commies trying to tell me what to drive by inventing stupid regulations.

I am buying that H-2. And I will be driving it for no other reason than the fact that I love it. And if any stupid raggedy enviro-cunts are dumb enough to try vandalizing it, G-d help them! You can have my H-2 after it rolls over your cold dead hippie asses!

    To SkyeChild,

Okay, I mispoke. But still, how much of that is being mentioned in the press, in the past and now? And if I remember correctly, when I did hear about them, they were from the Southern Sudan, which has a different set of problems with the Khartum government. Darfur is in the western part of Sudan, next door to Chad, Libya and the Central African Republic. And in Darfur, everyone there are Moslems, so, the fighting is between two different Moslem groups, one of which claims that they are Arabs and another is claiming that they are Africans. To be honest, those are just labels that both groups have tack onto each other for their own reasons.

Anyway, has anyone read the article that I’d posted the link to earlier? It helps to explain what lead to the present mess there, and IMO, it wasn’t Global Warming.

    To PC,

I have to agree with Pricess Natasha’s earlier post about the fact that the world having natural cooling and warming cycles. At present we have recently left a cooling cycle and are in the start of a warming cycle. I am sure that several decades from now the weather will start getting cooler. And I’m sorry but the models being used to predict global warming might not be able to cover all of the weather scenario since, IIRC, we still don’t know enough about worldwide weather patterns to be sure that the models being used by the scientists are accurate. But what I do know is that I don’t think that we’re the major cause of the present warming trend. We’re just a convient scapegoat for those who like to blame everything on the West.

    An African-American male,

So what part of Africa do you hail from originally…that’s YOU, yourself…not your ancestors.

If you personally aren’t from Africa and have become a citizen, then you aren’t African-American.

    To SkyeChild,

It’s all in the semantics. When I was growing up, when someone was talking about someone who was brought over from Africa, the term used was Negros or Colored, then it became Black, now the term being used is African-American for folks who were born in the US, but who ancesters originally came feom Africa. Let remember something, the term only came into use in the 1980s and 1990s, and I don’t think it was being used to say that the person was from originally from Africa. The term mainly means someone who is descended from people who originally came from Sub-Sahara Africa.

I am an American of African descent, not from Africa, or rather West Africa, (not sure which modern day country yet, since we have not have any DNA test to find out which African tribe we’re related to) which is where my family, or rather most of it, if my father’s claim that we’re part Cherokee is acturate.

My mother is from King and Queen County, Virginia, near Richmond, which was and still is farm country. Heck, we use to go down there every other summer to visit her relatives. My father is originally from the area around Durham, North Carolina. His family moved from their farm around 1939 to move to Philadelphia.
I was born in Philadelphia, raised in West Philly and still live there. My folks moved down to K&Q County back in 2000. I still have relatives in Philly, as well as in Willow Grove, PA, Connecticut, Georgetown, Md. and N.C.

Now then, is the situation solved and can we just get beyond this?

LC WayneB, leoni, I remember reading something a very long time ago (my freshman year in college, to be exact), about some research oceanographers did on the mineral deposits on the bottom of the oceans in the deeper parts… Apparently, they found that the ocean bottom texture and structure indicates that Earth has been going through cycles of warming and cooling, naturally. That is where I came up with the number 1200-1600 years. It was from that article, and damned if I can remember where I found it. It was online, but came from a mainstream medium. I printed it out for a discussion, then promptly lost the pages and the link.

Conveniently, that research, complete with extensive citations, has been memory-holed by the Global Wormening hacks.
Like the saying goes, “follow the money”! Global Wormening is the damn gold mine, right now!

    To Princess Natasha,

Don’t you just hate when that happen? Losing information and not being able to remember where you found it, that is. I know how that feels. And I have to agree, you need to follow the money on such things.

I can remember everytime someone from the scientific communtity would come out with a new report about something that was a threat, if not threatening, to our health, my dad would say, I guess it’s money time again. Of course, a few years later, another report would come out to the effect of saying, never mind that previous report. Man, really gets on my nerves when they do that.

Yeah margarine was good, and now it’s evil. But people work with the information they have at the time. Things are bound to change.

Can I go off thread and comment on your geographical info? I’m from Wilmington, DE, so I know what the summers are like. I never in a million years thought any one would mention Willow Grove here. Do you know that giant retirement home? My mother moved there and was miserable–people were snotty and she had a thick German accent. But they took good care of her when she had Alzheimers. The place holds horrible memories.

Natasha - I don’t know if you read the article I linked to or not, but those guys found the same long pattern:

In the sediment, diatom and fish-scale records, we also see longer period cycles, all correlating closely with other well-known regular solar variations. In particular, we see marine productivity cycles that match well with the sun’s 75-90-year “Gleissberg Cycle,” the 200-500-year “Suess Cycle” and the 1,100-1,500-year “Bond Cycle.”

    To PC,

Yeah, more likely, someone will say, nevermind, magarine is okay again, it’s butter that’s evil. But I digress.

Summer in Philly? Well, depends on which year. I remember that it would normally start out nice, but towards the end of August, can you say, where’s the pool, I’m getting tired of the bleeping heat!!!! I know you can. Of course, there was that week or so vacation every other summer to see our Virginia relatives, so we usually missed the worst of it. But, boy did it get hot in me and my brother’s room in the house. Can you say, feeling cooked, and that’s even with the fan in the window and the door open. How we ever survived that each summer, god only know.

Willow Grove has a retirement home? That news to me. I’m going to have to ask my aunt and uncle about that. As for the town, all that I know about it is the now gone Willow Grove Park, and my Uncle and Aunt’s place that we use to go to for the family’s Christmas get together, until my folks moved to Va. in 2000. Hmmm, I remember that their place was originally surrounded by woods, then it was surrounded by other houses by Christmas 1999.

Sorry to hear about what happen to your mother.

When you listen to talk radio and small AM radio stations and off the internet, you get to listen to a lot of PSA’s. You may think, this idea of Mother Earth fighting back is just among the indians trying to connect to ancient spirituality.

“Earth Mother is fighting back - not only from the four winds, but also from underneath,” he said. “Scientists call it global warming. We call it Earth Mother getting angry.”

Sadly, it isn’t. Below is a link to an AdCouncil PSA, that I’ve probably heard a hundred times. How people have heard this junk on free radio?
