This just in from the gun-free Paradise of Australia (via Tim Blair):

A man has been charged after allegedly firing a shot through the front door of his home to deter would-be intruders terrorising the occupants.

Police said the man, 43, fired one shot from a rifle through the front door of the home in McNeil Avenue, Geelong East, about 10pm last night.

The would-be intruders had thrown rocks through the front window and cut the home’s power supply before trying to jemmy open the front door.

They fled after the man, who was inside with a woman and young girl, opened fire.

Police recovered the rifle and charged the man with conduct endangering life and firearm offences.

Defend yourself, go to jail.

It’s a pity that he didn’t save a few rounds for the cops. That’s the only sure way to deal with Gestapo tyrants and their henchmen who are “only follovink orderz.” After a while, they get nervous from hauling the perforated bodies of their fellow goons back to the morgue.

Forget the cops, go after the legislators! Let’s face it some cops might have a vision problem if someone were to accidentally let someone get a peek at a weapon but firing a weapon is going to attract a lot of attention attention the cops can’t ignore. It sucks but that’s the law of the land as passed by the lawmakers voted in by the electorate. Throw the bums out and vote in somebody with some balls to change the fucked up law.

Sad that a person is in violation of the law for trying to defend himself.

But whats even worse is still the Left is still up to thier old tricks to end the second amendment. Once again some fuctard decided to put people in danger and publish personal information on legal gun owners.

compare this guys actions against the very same state police forces record:

Fatal shootings by Victoria Police and developments to curb fatalities in the past 10 years
May 22, 2004: A sword-wielding man is shot by police after attacking a police car in inner Melbourne. He flees and his body is later found under a nearby footbridge.
February 10, 2004: A 48-year-old man, allegedly armed with several weapons, is shot dead by police outside a home in the Ballarat suburb of Wendouree.
2003: Members of police Special Operations Group issued with Taser stun guns, which use an electrical pulse to freeze muscles and immobilise a target, for a 12-month trial. Police Minister Andre Haermeyer says the guns could be introduced more widely in the force if the trial proves successful.
2002: January - An armed man, who had previously stabbed his father, is shot dead by police at a house in east suburban Glen Waverley.
2000: April - Knife-wielding offender, aged in his 20s, shot dead by police in a street in Sydenham, west of Melbourne.
1998: Three fatal shootings by police. In February police shoot dead a 32-year-old man to end a six-hour siege in Wandin East, in outer eastern Melbourne. In April, a man is shot dead by police after they stop his car on a road near Maryborough in central Victoria and a 34-year-old man wielding a claw hammer is shot dead in Melbourne’s south-east.
    - Following a trial of capsicum spray, police introduce it as standard equipment for officers to defuse volatile situations.
1997: Two fatal shootings by police. In March a man is fatally shot after charging at police with a machete during an attempted chemist hold-up. In July a young policewoman shoots a 28-year-old man during a domestic dispute in Melbourne’s outer east.
1995: Three fatal shootings by police. An Amnesty International report damns Victoria Police’s bloody record, citing 23 police shootings in the state between 1988 and 1995, five of which involved people with histories of mental illness.
1994: Nine fatal shootings by police. A report calls for changes in the force’s “shoot your way out of trouble” ethic.
    - Victoria Police commence Project Beacon, a non-confrontational, safety-first training program, following public concern about the spate of police shootings.
1988-1993: 14 fatal shootings by police, six of those taking place in 1988

I agree with Nevada Steve, don’t blame law enforcement necessarily. Sounds like the legislators are the ones to blame, they made that retarded law, perhaps they’re more deserving a few .308s then cops having to do their jobs and enforcing Australian law that is on the books. I almost bet the cops don’t really want to enforce the law in this case, but given the publicity, etc, they pretty much have to.

While I agree with NevadaDailySteve and Duncan Avatar that the legislators are obviously the real reason for fascist legislation like that and that yes, Virginia, they ought to receive a heaping helping of the voters’ ire (public floggings and a lynching or two wouldn’t hurt either, they respond well to those), you have to keep in mind that they’re not the ones who will be picking up your guns. They’re too cowardly for that, so they’ll send somebody else’s daughter or son instead.

You also have to remember that there were undoubtedly a lot of Germans in the Allgemeine SS who didn’t really like what they were ordered to do, but they did it nonetheless.

And they still hanged at the end of the war, as they bloody well should.

God help this poor guy and his family, now. We all know the cops’ll station some guards around the place to make sure they catch the next incursion in the act—NOT. Meanwhile, the legislators and other gummint types, right down to the local po po chief, just like here, will have armed guards for every move. F them! Trouble here , is that he discharged his weapon through the door , ie he didn’t have a clear target. This is pretty dangerous and a waste of ammo.

I’d have waited until they got inside or at least had a clear line of fire and then , well accidents happen and there’s plenty of good hole diggin’ soil round ‘n’ about.

See what the magistrate imposes. I have a feeling that this guy will loose his licence permenantly irrespective. What other charges actualy stick remain to be seen.

I know a person who shot dead a known criminal breaking into his house. After some years of legal fighting he was aquitted.

Don’t take me the wrong way here , A man’s home is his castle and he should be allowed to defend it.

Our legal system has reached the point where it nearly trips over itself to defend the criminal and lock up the victim of said criminal.

It’s deeply disturbing, and the number of politicans ready to brutalize criminals is shrinking at the same rate as our right to protect ourself from said criminals.

Where did the idea come from that once you dial “911″ (or whatever the Aussie system is), that time stands still and there is no danger in the 5 to whatever minutes it takes the cops to respond?

Where I live, La Crescenta, though technically Glendale, Ca.(pop. 207,157) and rated as one of the safest cities in America by the FBI (Hooo-doggie), we are on the other side of the mountains from the main city. We usually have, maybe, one patrol vehicle in our area. Response time is about 10 to 15 minutes. I know this due to our “good” neighbors across the street. If I know the response time, the bad guy does too.

I would choose putting a bullet through the door, as an initial deterrent, you can always escalate, rather than trying to hide in a 900 sq. ft. house for the police to get here and save my family.
