You are welcome! Herr Biden torqued me off with his blathering about gun owners and his self congratulatory remark about assault guns (if memory serves). But are we, the supposed silent majority (Ok, we is a *bit* more vocal now)perhaps part of the problem. What does the “window” for us to successfully affect change look like. And what can we do this side of pressing that “shinny red reset button” ™

    What do ya’ll think?

We’re going to have to start changing things at a political level. The problem there being that no one with any sense or morals wants to get into politics. I know for damned sure that I will get no closer to being elected than voting for someone that I can support.

The problem is that doing so is going to take decades. And things may get to the button pushing point first. I don’t want things to get to that point, it’ll get really ugly. But if it happens, well, it happens.

And if it does, I just hope I’m not too far gone to serve as anything but an ambulatory sandbag.

The future is seen, as they say, “Through a glass darkly…”, and there are so many variables it leaves me dizzy thinking of what should be done. When it comes, (probably late, too) on resetting our system of government, we might find others looking to reset us. Or worse, a final solution with America the focus of eradication.
I don’t think that window is very big.
My guess is paralleled with the next two election cycles, say, ten years tops.
So many trial lawyers, so little time.

Term Limits. Two years for everybody and then you’re outta there. For both House AND Senate. Then you can run again after the next guy gets a shot. And you get THREE months before the election to sell yourself to the voters. To be done after office hours and on the weekends/vacations. You WILL NOT do it on our time. Give us a fucking break from all this camPAIN bullshit. These bastards were pimping themselves BEFORE the last election.

And if you’re a registered candidate, you get X amount of FREE airtime on the tube/radio and space in the print media. You want camPAIN finance reform, make it so that Joe Sixpack stands an even chance against some billionare bunghole. Elections shouldn’t go to the guy with the most toys. Experience shows that he is the one most likely to break it off in our ass.

These assholes work for us, so like any other job, get your ass to the office on Monday morning, do your eight hours a day, and you get the weekend off. Set up websites that post any and all legislation being decided on, let The Boss, (We, The People), tell you how we want you to vote, and then you fucking well vote that way. No more of this “behind closed doors” shit. If you aren’t willing to present it to The Boss before you pass it, odds are that We, The People, will think it falls into the BOHICA catagory.

And no more taxpayer funded month long breaks and recesses. You get the Fed holidays off and two weeks a year vacation, on YOUR dime. I can’t afford to go to a tropical paradise and get shitfaced on the sand surrounded by severely stacked servers in skimpy swimsuits, why should I pay for you to do it??

Those are just for starters. Make it like a real job. As I said we are the boss of this country, so it needs to be easier for us to put a boot in the ass of fuck-up employees. Do something to piss us off and you’re fired. I know little of this is likely to get done because it would have to get past the same assholes it is aimed at.

I wasn’t for term limits when I first heard about them … but as more time goes by … and the asshats become even more asshatier(??!!) They may be the only way to go. And perhaps slow the bastards down a bit. And a BIG thumbs up to the suggestion of free air and print to anyone running for office. Make it a set amount of time for all. Say a total of 120-180 min of tv radio time and x number of columns of print. That way even the little guy gets a chance. After the primaries, allocate some other amount of time to the two squaring off (and to any viable 3rd or 4th party candidate as well), up to the national election.

“Prudence, indeed, will dictate that governments long established, should not be changed for light and transient causes; and, accordingly, all experience has shown that mankind are more disposed to suffer while evils are sufferable than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But, when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same object, evinces a design to reduce the people under absolute despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such government, and to provide new guards for their future security.”

If you want to level the playing field have all the campaigners wear the same neutral colored jumpsuits (I’d have ‘em in clown suits, myself) and only allow each of them X amount of travel time, too. (preferably just coach and redeye flights) They should at all times be reminded that their jobs are there for our pleasure and should be graded at least bi-annually on their voting and behaviour.
We should not have to tolerate the type of contemptible flip-floping and larsonous poltroons they have all shown themselves to be.

Never served..but my hubby M served in the Air Force, his Dad served in the Navy. I have two Uncles that were Army. My brother was Army National Guard. Dated one guy who was in the Army, two in the Air Force. We live next door to BAFB here in Louisiana, which M also works at the Approach Control on base and works military aircraft along with the civilian air traffic. Our closest friends are former and retired Military, which includes VulcanRider who is retired Air Force, and Jackboot who is former Navy.

When you are around Military folks all your life you learn alot.

Many, if not most of the men here are former or present military, psychochick. A lot of stories you find here, if you’ve been in, you know, you simply know. Now for me a long time ago, got out in ,71, a third class PO, Machinist’ Mate. Nothing illustrous or heroic, jsut did my job, got drunk a lot, beat up in bar fights and such, both giving and receiving. Had my share of laughs and tears. Had some wonderful and horrible times. But I learned things and saw things changing my life forever. My Dad was an intelligence officer/navagator on a B-17. Shot down, he spent a year in a concentration camp, escaped once, was recaptured, the Nazis broke his feet, he escaped again and stayed gone. For no one escaped a third time. My uncles on my mothers side, she is from Australia, they fought in that hell hole known as New Guinea. I heard stuff that would shake your soul. My father’s brother returned from WW2 Navy shell-shocked for years. My wifes brother is a ‘Nam vet, Air Force, her father army WW2, European theater, her uncle a Marine, WW2, Pacific theater……..and then there remain my friends, about a third of whom are vets……..so I’m in good company. Most of all remains the undying respect I have for those true heroes. I never saw a front line, but supported those that did. I loved them, cared about them and never, ever, spoke ill of any of them. Both our police chief and mayor here in Dog Patch are Marines…I helped both of them with the campaigns, by writing for them, gratis. Many vets here in town, I am proud and grateful to be able to show up with an honorable discharge in hand, all of use gathering to contribute to a memorial to be built here about a block away at an elementary school…the names of every vet ever having lived in this town inscribed on the stone………….then go to the cemetery on Memoprial Day…..the one day of the year I will not work……, for I have something to do….
