LC Judith wants to know if the Dubya Appeasistration don’t have anything better than this to do and, frankly, so do we:

WASHINGTON, Jan 27 — The Bush administration will inform Congress on Monday that Israel may have violated agreements with the United States when it fired American-supplied cluster munitions into southern Lebanon during its fight with Hezbollah last summer, the State Department said Saturday.

Cluster munitions fired at the Hezbollasses who kept up a continuous barrage of Katyushas over Israeli cities, that is. How DARE those pesky Jooos defend themselves against mass murder???

Cluster munitions are anti-personnel weapons that scatter tiny but deadly bomblets over a wide area. The grenadelike munitions, tens of thousands of which have been found in southern Lebanon, have caused 30 deaths and 180 injuries among civilians since the end of the war, according to the United Nations Mine Action Service.

Which may, of course, have something to do with the fact that Hezbollah has a habit of loading up the buildings they hide in with civilian human shields (assuming for the sake of argument that they were ever “civilians” at all), not to mention their practice of preventing, at gunpoint, civilian refugees from leaving the war zone. But you won’t find anybody protesting that.

Midlevel officials at the Pentagon and the State Department have argued that Israel violated American prohibitions on using cluster munitions against populated areas, according to officials who described the deliberations.

Midlevel officials who, no doubt, already have been promised lucrative jobs as “consultants” for, say, Saudi Wahhabia as soon as they leave office.

So how about asking somebody who was actually there? Well, don’t expect the New York Times to do that, that would be too much like actual journalism for them to even think about engaging in, but thankfully we have people like Michael Totten, who went and interviewed an Israeli soldier:

When they say that Israeli artillery was aimed at civilian targets, I can tell you a bit about how the artillery works. If I find a target in the middle of a village, like one house that I see that there are armed people going in, and I will aim artillery, heavy artillery, on it. Not Air Force, not like pin-pointed targets. Artillery will dispense rounds 100 meters from that target also. It’s not accurate. Anyway, even if a target is next to it, these houses were empty. No civilians were walking around South Lebanon. I know. I was in their villages. In their houses. Anyone who was there was definitely working for the Hezbollah or working as a Hezbollah fighter.

Imagine that. Artillery is actually not all that terribly accurate. Of course, anybody with a brain already knows that, which specifically excludes anybody working for the Jooo-hating State Dept. as well as pretty much every single journalist who ever wasted ink on the fish wrappers that pass for “newspapers” in this country.

But perhaps the New York Times and the hand-wringing terrorists enablers at Foggy Bottom would prefer if Israel, instead of cluster munitions, had just dropped a dozen layers of 155mm?

Oh, and as to the “civilian houses” targeted for destruction by the Evil Jooos?

…like we went toward this house, we were fired upon from inside the house. We went into the house. We cleared the house. Anyone who was in the house was neutralized. We went down to the basement. And also in the basement everything was neutralized. And we saw a periscope in the basement that was looking up toward the main road.

MJT: A periscope like something they use in a submarine?

Eli: Yeah, a periscope. You know, you can be underground and see above. It was a pipe that had mirrors that were reflecting up. And a small kind of detonator. Our team checked it out. There were 500 kilos of explosives under the road waiting for Israeli tanks. There were really ready. They built these houses for that purpose because they knew this was going to happen some day. They were just waiting for the tanks to roll in.

And the Evil Zionists just dropped munitions on those perfectly innocent, innocuous houses? The horror, the HORROR, we tell you!

Perhaps the Bushministration ought to spend a bit less time trying to prevent our allies from defending themselves, and spend a little more time addressing, we don’t know, perhaps insane theocracies building nukes with the declared intent of “wiping Israel off the map?”

Just a thought.

    From Totten’s (great) article:

[Israeli soldier]: If you ask me what should have been done in the villages in Lebanon during this war, I think Israel wasn’t harsh enough. Now, I’m not right-wing, I’m not…I just think that if we are in a war…it’s like, if you play with fire, people get burned. There’s nothing you can do about it. These whole villages, they were empty, just filled with Hezbollah terrorists. They should have been totally wiped off the map. Except Israel left them standing. Many of our soldiers were killed because of that, so Israel wouldn’t be blamed after the war for war crimes and destroying civilian houses.

And yet they still were blamed.

Looks like us evil Joooooz just can’t win.

You know readerjp you posit an interesting question…

I wonder if this is really all about the use of cluster bombs or could it be something else?

Could it be about Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom insisted Israel had “acted in good faith” amid continued fallout from a deal to upgrade Harpy Killer drones which Israel sold to China?

SUU-30’s and MK-20’s are some of my favorite munitions (cluster bombs for you civilians, in the Air Force we call them cannisters) What the Isralies should have done is remove the bomblets out of one and pack it with candy or money and when the ragheads run out to pick up the candy, you come in and hit’em with a “Shake&Bake” load! mk82’s (500pounders) and Napalm!!

Thats all bull sh@t about the tens of thousands of unexploded sub-munitions(bomblets). The mk-20 and SUU-30 all have a very high reliability rate. A mk-20 with a anti-personel load, has around 420 bomblets and explode on contact. When we were doing test drops,we were having a 97-99%
    reliability rate.

Of course the failure rate is irrelevant.

Once again, I cannot conceive how Israel musters the patience to deal with US and their enemies in such civilized fashion.

If the Lebanese don’t want to worry about unexploded munitions, all they have to do is stop fucking with Israel.

Wait I forgot. Evil Joooooos. My bad.

That’s pretty much what Ghandi was saying when it was the Nazis doing the slaughtering.

It is wrong and inhuman to impose the Jews on the Arabs. What is going on in Palestine today cannot be justified by any moral code of conduct. The mandates have no sanction but that of the last war. Surely it would be a crime against humanity to reduce the proud Arabs so that Palestine can be restored to the Jews partly or wholly as their national home.

    –Mahatma bin Laden…I mean, Ghandi

I forget where I stated before that Ghandi was a hack, but I stand by it, and add the descriptor, “Fuckwad”.

continued fallout from a deal to upgrade Harpy Killer drones which Israel sold to China?

That brings up an interesting question. Could Israel be making overtures because they see that America is about to toss them overboard? Maybe they think people without the Abrahamic religious baggage (ie, China) can pull them outta the drink.

Let’s face it, any bargain they make would have to have a serious Faust-factor to compare to their situation with the US’s red-headed-stepchild treatment.

More the shame on us. :down_tb: :thumbdown_tb:
