(Via The Imperial Blogsis, whose awesomeness keeps amazing us):

Don’t take your kids fishing in Oklahoma, LCs:

[5-year-old] Austin Haley was fishing with his grandfather, Jack Tracy, Friday evening…

Just the sort of thing that granddads do. Idyllic scene, sun setting slowly, kid chatting with gramps and having a grand old time.

Then tragedy struck:

…when Tracy said he heard a shot and saw a bullet hit the water just a few feet in front of the boat dock where he was standing.

Moments later, a second shot was fired that hit Austin in the head.

Who was it? A hunter shooting at what he thought was a 4 foot dear fishing? Al-Qaeda? None of the above.

A Noble police officer who had responded to a report of a snake in a tree apparently fired the deadly shot while trying to kill the snake, according to City Manager Bob Wade.

Gee thanks, Barney Fife. What Home for the Terminally Retarded do they get those knuckledragging, paint-huffing, sister-fucking troglodytes from, because I want to know so we can drop an Imperial Nuke on it.

What the everloving FUCK was that piece of shit with a badge attached THINKING? Is he even CAPABLE of thinking? “Honest accident” my Imperial ARSE!

1) What the fuck possessed you to “reason” that the situation, in the rural sticks of BFE, required the use of firearms? It was a snake in a fucking TREE, you anencephalic sack of particularly moronic adipose tissue.

2) Was your first miss maybe a gentle hint that your aim wasn’t quite up to the challenge? You even managed to miss the fucking TREE, asshole. TWICE! What’s the qualification requirements in your department? That you miraculously manage to not shoot yourself?

3) Does “be sure of your target and what lies behind it PRIOR TO SHOOTING” ring a bell, numbfuck? Obviously not. What? The Noble PD didn’t have cue cards with big pictures for you, you illiterate imbecile?

Fuckhead.

Negligent, brainless, retarded, worthless, in dire need of immediate killing, child-murdering, son of a syphilitic sow, inbred, lead paint chip-munching FUCKHEAD!

We would suggest that you go do the honorable thing and eat a bullet, right away, but I’m afraid that you’d miss and kill somebody else instead.

You inexcusable, oxygen-thieving disgrace to humanity.

Hard to call this one, I feel for that kids family, deeply.

At the same time I have to feel for this cop, he certainly fucked up in the worst way imaginable, but his life is going to be a living hell the rest of his days.

You know he’ll get sued, no question about, and he’ll loose everything.

He’l be drummed out of the PD.

Probably end up in Prison, and thats just the start of the nightmare..

But worst of all is the guilt and the angst of this hanging around his neck the rest of his days.

Me? I’m eating a bullet on this one, my honor is gone.

    Unbelievable.

“Be sure of your target and backstop” was cast in stone when I went through the police academy - how…

A lake - with a boat dock - at least one house for sure 200 yards away…

Who tries to shoot a snake with a bullet, when they’ve got the time to use something more suitable for close range?!?

Grandpa’s never going to be able to look at that dock again.

I can’t wait for the excuses that will inevitably come out of that Department. I’d like to know what in their minds justifies the death of an innocent human life for the sake of killing a snake. It seems to me that the snake was in his natural element. Why the attempt at killing it? If anything, why wasn’t animal control called to relocate the snake? What did this guy think? That this was 1870? He sure acted like he had the average western education level from 1870.

I mean, wasn’t that a job for animal control? Didn’t he have a few minutes to simply go to his vehicle and call for someone from animal control to move the snake someone so that it wouldn’t scared anybody? Speaking of which, why was he called in the first place? Did the snake scared someone enough to call for the cops in the first place? That is what I really would like to know.

The story gets worse. The house 200 ydsfrom the lake, the child’s mother’s and grandpa’s daughter. Grandpa got his grandson on a “4×4″ and brought him to the house and authorities summoned. The responding officers didn’t even admit they were shooting.

FWIW, police shotguns are typically loaded with #00 buckshot and can kill at long range. Don’t shoot the f’n snake. Do what Jackboot suggests; stick, rock, shovel. I can’t recall how many rattlesnakes I have killed with a shovel.

Don’t think something like this cannot happen to you. Pay attention to what you are shooting and where the shot is going. Observe safe gun handling rules.

Some San Francisco cop was the self procliamed department armorer. He was asked to work on another officer’s .45 ACP. He drops the mag and starts fooling around with it. He shot himself right between the horns with the round in the chamber he didn’t clear.

A rookie affirmative action hire on the Sacramento County Sheriff’s department responded to frantic calls from nitwits that cows were in their yards. Ms. Deputy Nitwit advanced on the cow critters with her weapon drawn, shouted “halt” when they ran past her, and proceded to empty her weapon at the cows, hitting not one, but nailing several houses.

Then there was the story of the FTO (somewhere in Kalifornistan) that was going to show his trainee how the magazine safety worked. The FTO carried a S&W with said safety device. So he took the trainees pistol, dropped the magazine, pointed it at him and pulled the trigger. Problem was the trainee was carrying a Glock. Caught him in the armpit. Luckily the trainee survived.

    Wayne B,

Just read the story. Now, let’s said, Norman no longer has an animal control officer, which is what the woman asked for. Okay, maybe they could’ve seen if they was an animal control officer from another juridiction? I’m just asking.

Okay, they claimed that they’d tried everything else before shooting it? I wonder if they really did or are they just saying that to cover their ass? I’m just asking.

The woman told the officers that there was a field behind before firing the first shot. I don’t know, but couldn’t one of the two officers have taken the time to see if there were people in the vicinity before even firing one shot? Anyone? Anyone? I’m just asking.

And gee, who could’ve actually fired the shot that killed the kid? Maybe the second shooter from the Grassy Knoll in Dallas? I’m just asking? Sheesh, even I can’t believe that city official honesty said that with a straight face. :em96:

Wouldn’t be too surprised to hear of the cop’s suicide sometime in the next few weeks. Horrible lapses in judgment tend to produce that kind of fall-out.

I dont believe it. No one could be this fucking stupid. :em38:

A snake in a TREE?? Leave it the fuck ALONE, keep everyone away and the thing will crawl off on its own and find a place to sleep.

Any Aussie knows to leave snakes alone, or to call a handler…why the hell didn’t they call the RSPCA or Animal Control??? They could have handled this and a child would still be alive.

Any Aussie child of five and above knows the basics of snake handling, you get a stick and a bag or container, put the stick up, and pick up the snake, and put it in the bag, then walk over to some bushes and let it go.

NOT ONE Aussie I know (and we have LOADS of snakes here so I am speaking as one who does know) would be such an IMBECILE as to draw a gun????

I want his badge, I want his ass in jail, and I want the badge and the job of his CO and his firearms instructor as well.

I want the ass of whoever is responsible for the piss poor training this fool received, i want the name of the fool who gave this guy his badge, and I want THAT IDIOT transferred to crossing guard duty FOREVER.

Or bust them down to rookie and tie them to a desk for the rest of their lives.

Were this me, i would have IAD and investigations down there like the wrath of God, I’d put ALL of them through firearms training and certification from SCRATCH, and I’d bust the badge of anyone that didn’t pass muster.

How many more fuckups like him are there in that Deputy Dawg bunch.??? :em71:

Snake Was Harmless Black Rat Snake.

The Noble Police Department’s Police and Procedures Manual says “firearms may be used to destroy an animal that represents a threat to public safety.”

These officers had not even a rudimentary knowledge of local wildlife. Now, Austin Haley and his family have paid a horrible price for their ignorance.

Up in Red Sox Nation, we like to joke occassionally about dumb cops, but even the stupidest Boston flatfoot is still ten times smarter than that jerk in Noble, Oklahoma. Were I his police chief, I would have kicked him off the force five minutes after the kid was pronounced dead.
