Oh, of course.  One of our beloved commenters (and I do mean that most sincerely) got the bold/unbold tags switched.  It kinda cascaded from there.

Can I be a GLOR? I have been called a lady, although I probably blew that with some snarkey posts. I am of course glorious. And I spend so much time here that my husband wanted to know if I could tear myself away to go on a trip, so OR is fair.

Since practically everybody here (except the one owner) hates a Prius, I thought I would mention the worst feature for entertainment value-it has not come up. If you don’t run the engine every 3-4 days the battery runs down. I’m not sure if AAA is equipped for those specialized batteries. So every time you go on a trip, you have to line up someone to run the car for a couple minutes every few days. It’s not the end of the world, but you hate to bother people. It’s bad enough they have to water the plants. (That is not trivial.)

Beer, well if you’re going to bring up booze in general…

I’m considering getting into stilling. Though I’d like for it to become legal here first… I know I can do it if I set my mind to it, I am from Kentucky after all.

Right now, I’m mixing vodka with random liquids I find in my kitchen, purely for the fun of it. I wish I had some sprite or tonic, or club soda, or OJ, or lemonade. I also wish I hadn’t cleared that bottle of vanilla vodka and 12 pack of coke. I also wished I wasn’t out of rum. and Brandy. And whiskey. And soco. And Smirnoff. I should have bought more booze.

If I’m not spending my money on booze, I’m blowing it on guns and ammo. Oh and cigarettes, and computer components, and gas.

This is really long and probably annoying if you don’t live in southern Cal or are not interested in earthquakes or mudslides.

    SoCal
Did you feel the quake? It should have been shaking down there. Supposedly they felt it in SB, but we didn’t feel it up here. Do you have earthquake insurance? We decided it was worth it, but a neighbor who is a contractor doesn’t feel it covers enough to be worth it. Hopefully, it won’t be an issue. My 66 year old neighbor has lived in southern Cal since she was 3, and said she only felt 2 major quakes. With one, the baby was rolling back and forth on the bed, and they were trying to grab it.

My pipe bomb friend’s mother lived in Sylmar and was freaked out by that quake. To get away, she moved to Northridge and ended up at the epicenter! That was my first major quake. I’m from the East Coast, and I don’t like it when the ground moves! Also, I’m petrified of fires. Neighbors were outside with flashlights, and the blinds were shaking back and forth from the earthquake, showing light outside. I kept thinking the place was on fire. I didn’t sleep that night. It didn’t cause much damage in SB.

I guess we’re due for a big one sometime soon. I need to learn how to turn off the gas. I bought a big wrench as the first step. (We suck at house stuff.) It’s riddled with faults in SB, and there’s a nasty one in the SB channel. They had a map in the paper of how far into the city a tsunami would go–pretty scary. Aside from the million dollar tract homes and gang stabbings, I’m kind of glad we moved away. People are more friendly up here, and so what if you have to drive 40 miles to see a foreign film. There’s always Netflix.

The building I work in (when I’m not out sick for months) is tall and designed to be flexible in an earthquake and shake back and forth. I know it’s a good thing, but it’s very unnerving. It’s also at the top of a cliff, so no tsunami issues, unless you are driving away.

Can you believe that people still live in La Conchita? Are you out of your mind? There have been 2 mudslides since 1993. And they’re sueing the ranch at the top of the city, because they say it’s irrigation caused the slide. Well, the paleogeologists say there is a history of slides. And it’s the city’s fault because the retaining wall wasn’t good enough–well studies showed that none would have been enough to stop it. Plus, it showed how vulnerable the south coast is if 101 gets shut down. A lot of SB employees live down there, because it’s more affordable. It was bad to lose the person who prepares the biology labs for a week. (She was so happy for me that I had found a blog with intellectual content.)

Nope, I was awake, but must have been walking around, cause I didn’t even hear about it until late in the morning. I rarely notice anything under a 5.5 unless we’ve just had a big one, then I do get a little more attuned to the shaking for a few days. This one didn’t even make the cat wake up.

No sense worrying about them, cause you don’t know when they’re going to hit. You just ride it out, check for damage and clean up anything that broke. I would recommend getting a wrench for the gas, Chain it close to the shutoff so it can’t go flying off someplace, and do not turn off your gas unless you smell it leaking, cause if you want the Gas Co. to turn it back on, you could be looking at day or weeks.
