Since the Imperial Staff™ is apparently taking the week off, it befalls His Highness himself to fill up the front page with some boring stuff that nobody will want to read anyway.

The nasty bit where one moves the heavy shit is now well over after a weekend of, shall we say, endless reschedules. Turns out the movers hadn’t quite expected that anybody could cram that much junk into a relatively small space. We had to chuckle when we saw the size of the trailer they showed up with but, to their credit, they managed to squeeze almost everything in there. It’s the “almost” that caused a problem, because when they were done, it was getting awful late.

Splendid fellows that they were, they took it in stride and agreed to show up the next day Sunday and finish the job. No extra charges or anything, and they did. This time without the trailer, which caused them to have to make two trips. THEN they volunteered to haul the 24 ton furniture up to the loft Imperial Command Station, presumably because they felt sorry for me (the Imperial Bodyguard had the day off, so it wasn’t the menace of 6′5″ hulks bristling with automatic weaponry that convinced them). Needless to say, those fine citizens of the Empire were heavily tipped.

Then there was the dishwasher incident, which caused a fair bit of distress in Her Highness’ otherwise calm demeanor when she realized that the confounded thing wouldn’t come on no matter what. Later on, after having lined up our agents and legal eagles for action first thing Monday, I found out that there was a curious wall switch that didn’t seem to do anything. Except for establishing power to the dishwasher, that is. Seriously, who in their right MIND has a separate wall switch for power to the dishwasher? So it was back on the phone for me telling everybody that, er, well, er, nevermind the bit about harassing the previous owners, m’kay?

And then, of course, there’s this whole “you think you have everything you need until you actually arrive, then you realize that you don’t, necessitating several trips to the local supercenter” thing that seems to follow anybody who has ever moved around. The Imperial Checkbook is getting quite the workout, let me tell you.

While we’re on that subject, thank you SO much for the donations and a special thank you to LC Jackboot for arranging the logistics of the whole thing!! Really, you guys are completely and utterly awesome, and neither me nor the Empress can ever thank you ENOUGH! They’ve sure hit a dry spot. G-d (or your preferred deity, if any) Bless You ALL!

So what’s left?

Well, there’s still a lot of “stragglers” (meaning weird small stuff that you never knew you had until you moved the furniture) left behind at the old place that needs to be rounded up, thrown in boxes and hauled off (Spats, expect a call ;-) ), and then all that’s needed is to call the Corps of Engineers to have the place cleaned out, fumigated and detoxed.

And Thursday the Intertubes, phone and TV come on at the new palace. Yay! (I’m typing this from the almost empty previous domicile).

Aren’t you happy I told you all of this?

Sounds like you got off easy. :em93:

I’ll give credit to your movers, they quoted a job and stood by it. How did you find these guys and keep their number listed.

Wish I could have given you a hand (just log that down for your next move).

The wall switch thing bothers me a bit. I would think about having an LC that knows something about energy distribution in an American domicile look into what circuit is going where and what purpose (if you aren’t familiar…but I know you know all…just to back up what you already knew). A dishwasher on an on/off switch is an indication they circumvented the garbage disposal or something.

Hope you’re feeling better now that things are dropping into place. Let us know when the Rottie Housewarming Party is so we can break the new digs in properly. We got to establish fond memories of the palace, hey I’ve got 16 days of vacation saved up, let’s make it a real blow out. :em94: :em38: :em34: :em95: :em96: :em95:

Thanks! I appreciate that. I decided that this time I didn’t want anything to do with hauling the heavy shit (I’ve done that enough times to earn my wings already), and if I won’t touch it, what right do I have to expect my friends to?, so I went ahead and hired the muscle for the furniture and all of the boxed crap.

Good time to do so, by the way. Turned out a moving company just set up a franchise here in the Metroplex and were desperate for a slice of the market pie, so we got a really good offer.

As to the rest of the stuff still hanging around, I’ll throw it in boxes, rent a U-Haul and call whomever wants to join the fun. Free beer included.

You know, I was thinking the same thing, so I went over everything and it all works, including the garbage disposal which has its separate switch right above the sink where it’s supposed to be. The only thing I can think of would be the fridge, but that one’s got its own plug and is working just fine.

Oh, and I love the sprinkler system, front and back. They must’ve just gotten it installed, because that thing is wicked awesome. The only thing it doesn’t do, at least not that I know of, is make your coffee in the morning. Timers, more programming options than you can shake a stick at, humidity sensors buried everywhere that will override the programming as necessary, the works. I wonder if it will mow the lawn too? ;)

You are blessed. When I automated my watering system it saved me in hassles and money….until the damn controller went out about the third year. Had it set for 4 AM, prime time according to the books, but who the hell is conscious at 4 AM, Took about a month to realize the controller crapped out.

Is Karl Rove going to be in charge until you get everything up and running Thursday?

Is he resigning because you offered him a job in the Empire that he couldn’t refuse?

    Well, no.

Problem is, Karl’s performance reviews haven’t been all that impressive as of late, so at the last board meeting of the GZC (Global Zionist Conspiracy or, as we’re also sometimes referred to, the Zionist Overlord Government or “ZOG”) board meeting, we decided that it would be better if he were encouraged to go “spend more time with the family.”

We were going to give him one more chance after his miserable failure with Katrina, it could have been the equipment after all, and then he went on and missed the New York Times with that twister. Such a simple task and he couldn’t even get that right.

It’s funny, though. When I called him and said “Mr. Rove, you have failed me for the last time” he goes all flustered and shit, grabbing his neck and whatnot, only to find that nothing happened. Obviously he missed the “Kinder, Gentler Empire” memo as well.

    How I laughed.

He won’t be laughing when he finds out about the surprises at his home, however.

Please make sure you get the Imperial Broom Closet’s contents moved. All the good stuff from the Imperial Liquor Cabinet was stashed there the last time you left BC and JB in charge. :em94:

that the switch was intentional, either to make installation/servicing easier, or to keep children from turning it on.

I can’t think of anything more cost effective than installing a switch that may be used once during your ownership of the house, twice if you consider installation.

As far as kids… a rolled up newspaper works well…and hell, half the time I can’t even get my boy to run it when he’s suppose to.

A couple of possibilities on your mysterious switch.

An apartment complex I used to (”used to”, Praise the God), maintain had the dishwashers on separate switches for the purpose of making them safer to pull out and service. (Also made them easier to replace, since the cheap POS dishwahsers that were at Buzzard Shit apartments weren’t worth repairing.) Take a look behind there and see if it’s plugged in or hardwired. If it’s plugged in, that would be my guess as to why.

It’s entirely possible that the dishwasher had a past history of clogging it’s outlet line. (Or even a current history of it, but the older machines were a lot worse than the new ones about pulling that trick off.)

    Yer Majesty:

    I can think of two possibilities for the dishwasher / wall switch thing. Either the small kids / pretty button thing outlined nicely by Redneck, above;

    or

The dishwasher was added to an existing kitchen, and it was easier / cheaper to put it in on an existing “spare” circuit that was already in the kitchen space, and just happened to be wired through the switch.

Being as running a new circuit from the switchbox to the kitchen can be expensive (take down walls and ceilings, drill holes for cable, install cable, reinspection by the fire marchal, close walls / ceilings, etc.), that may be the easiest answer.

Or, alternatively, it could just be a conspiracy to screw with your head. Never discount that possiblity . . .

Or it could be something simple like my house where some genius decided to put every major appliance on one circuit. Run the Washer Dyer, Microwave, O.K., but if the refridge decided to cycle at this time. Power out. Took me months to figure out the combo because I usually wasn’t home when it happened, just got the report of “The Damn power blew AGAIN today.”

I’m going with the switch getting installed during a remodel or it was spec’d by the original owner. Or it may have been for some lighting that got removed during said remodel, provided there was a remodel. Or something else entirely. Now that I’ve cleared up my position on that issue, I’ll move on.

Every apartment I’ve lived in out here in the US has had the garbage disposal and the dishwasher wired to a pair of switches. The disposal one makes it grind stuff, the dishwasher one does nothing but leave you scratching your head if you hit it by accident then try and run the dishwasher.

Seems like a damn fool way to install things, but we’ve been in four different apartments now and it’s been the same in every one.

Misha, this appears to be a “normal” feature of Plano architecture; our house here has the same switch, while none of the apartments / houses in Alabama, Georgia, or Arkansas I’ve owned / rented / visited did.

Of course, our house in Plano appears to be where the crackhead electrician went after he warmed up at your place: :em41:

The only light switch for the light / ceiling fan combo in the breakfast nook is clear across the kitchen.

All the outlets in the living room appear to be controlled by one light switch on the wall.

The outlets in the garage appear to be controlled by two light switches, one in the utility room and one in the garage itself. Both must be on for any power to go to the garage outlets…. which means that the outlet Verizon plugged their router / connection box into. It’s real easy to turn off the light in the utility room…. and then wonder why the Internet, phone, and cable TV went away….

And finally, there’s no electrical outlet on the backyard….

My next project is to get a non-stoned electrician in for a thorough rewiring.

Shit, y’all, we’ve been in this house for 26 years, seriously, and there’s about 3 switches we have never figured out. Don’t know if they’re not wired, don’t know if we don’t have one of whatever the hell they had. Real pisser when you’re fumbling around in the dark :em41: must be tejas construction…but CONGrats!! You can now officially piss in your own yard or bury the deceased pet turtle. Or whatever!!

He won’t be laughing when he finds out about the surprises at his home, however.

Please go easy on him, Sire.

You were, once upon a time, an Upstart Evil Genius™ yourself.

Hate to see such raw talent go to waste, is all.

Hopefully, they haven’t gotten to him and made him reveal the sooper sekrit codes to the (so-called) Natural Disaster Sekrit Satellite™?

    Sire
With two little terrors..err I mean Heirs running around, you really oughta post an itemized list of what you found once all of the furniture was out of the way.

Bangie thing mopped the floors the other day, full swab job, move all the furniture and everything. My little “Princesses” had stashed stuff that I didn’t even know we owned.

As long as none of it jumped and bit ya, it ain’t all that bad.

Seriously, who in their right MIND has a separate wall switch for power to the dishwasher?

My first suspicion was a safety feature to prevent small house apes from harming themselves; the switch to the garbage disposal if often said to have precisel this function. The thought of a ready means to shut off power to facilitate service of a notoroiously wonky class of appliance also occurs. It could also be a means to facilitate energy efficiency by making sure a high capacity device isn’t on and running unless it’s supposed to - or at least not drawing hot water from more vital functions.

Then I started channeling the spirit of ‘halfway sensible person in a libtard universe’ and realized that it’s probably required by local housing codes for obscure Byzantine reasons best left unexplored. This comes from a vague memory (possibly fatigue induced) from the time the current domicile was under renovation and the landlord said something about requirements of a separate switch for each circuit.

Anyway, congrats on the new space and hope you don’t find any more unexplained electronic features…

Soldiers who took part in Tuesday’s fighting reportedly said Hamas’s gunmen were better armed than in the past and were equipped with radios, and seemed to operate according to a distinctive command hierarchy, using tactics that reminded the IDF soldiers of methods used by Hizbullah.
