Are you looking for the CURRENT VERSION of the Anti-Idiotarian Rottweiler?

You’ve obviously all already heard about the nutcase who had taken to publicly bragging about how he was going to kill the Dalai Bama and, in a surprising turn of events that nobody could have possibly foreseen, found himself in the caring hands of the Secret Service shortly thereafter.

All well and good and kudos to the SS for putting the tosser away. That’s their job, and they’d be a sorry lot if they hadn’t put this fruitcake under lock and key post haste. Remember: They only have to ignore one actual threat as “insignificant” to fail in their mission and, besides, this wasn’t some neglected adolescent nerd trying to get some attention and admiration from his peers by uttering retarded threats.

We have to say, though, that if we were harboring dreams of Presidenticide, or any -cide for that matter, we probably wouldn’t be walking around talking about it in the presence of strangers. But that’s just us.

It isn’t the real story here, however. Oh no. The real story is that the same blabbering fuckwit had also been talking about going Oswald on Bush. Oddly enough, that bit had been helpfully edited out by both CNN and CBS.

Again, maybe it’s just us, but somehow we’d think that plotting to assassinate a sitting President is at least as “newsworthy” as plotting to assassinate a candidate for President, no matter how much the Dalai Bama and his crank polishers in and out of the MSM have made themselves believe that he’s already been elected and crowned inaugurated.

But obviously we’re wrong about that, at least as far as CNN and CBS are concerned. Not to mention that it’s really hard to get a good meme going about bitter, gun and bible-clinging right wingers itching to kill The One™ when the nut in question has it in for the Republican President as well, which would also serve to dilute the Sympathy Vote™.

Or maybe it’s just that the MSM, having their heads in permanent close contact with both the anterior and posterior parts of the Dalai Bama’s pelvic girdle, were personally concerned that they might catch a stray bullet.

One thing that has always bothered me about threatening, even jokingly or drunkenly, to kill a president. Why, when someone threatens to kill average Joe, in front of reliable witnesses, do the authorities say there is nothing they can do about it unless something is actually done, or they need to hear it themselves.

Redeard: My own belief is that the office of the President is held too high in the minds of the people. He is but one man with some important jobs to do, yes, but he’s no king[*]. Pity that many seem so eager to look at him as if he should be wearing a crown. That may help explain why there are special laws with regards to death threats in regard to whoever sits in that seat and others associated with it.

Considering what’s been said very publicly over the last 8 years that .01% is probably a full time job for a couple 100 agents, and my hat is off to them for doing an outstanding job! :em04:

Of course McLame is up in years and his cancer is in remission, he’s not cured of it. So his VP is just as critical, even more so when the Republican base is taken into account, to his campaign as well. :em02:

Redeard, the short answer to your question is because as a nation, having your head of state ventilated by any tool with a greivance is a bad thing. The Secret Service doesn’t protect the man, they protect the office, and doing so means taking every threat seriously until it is investigated and then reassessed.

Brendan, the cops don’t have the resources to play it that way. Now if someone threatens to kill you and you turn up injured or dead, then they might look into it…

I have to disagree. When I lived in Kansas, the law there stated that threatening to kill comeone was called a “terroristic threat” and was a felony. It’s the same way in a lot of other states, and enforcement depends on the situation, saying “I’m gonna kill you for this” after someone pulls a prank on you is one thing, but getting in a pissed off shouting match and yelling it out in public will bring on a totally different reponse. As for the way I’m betting that the Obamanation machine is gonna spin this, I’m betting a bottle of Wild Turkey and a sixpack he’ll start spouting gun control babble over it!

To keep them and their families safe from those looking for revenge or looking to make a name for themselves by killing a former POTUS. And they don’t have to accept it. They can dismiss their protection. Last person I can recall doing so would have been Ladybird Johnson.

Good for you , PI. Here in Washingtonistan we have laws against pointing a laser at someone’s face. It doesn’t mean they actually prosecute people for it, but you are correct that it is a matter of degree. Someone looking pissed off and saying “I’m going to kill you” and brandishing a knife is far more like to come to an LEO’s attention then a stern look accompanied by an “I’m going to kill you.” and some irritated hand clenching.

Actually, the Conservative meme about Obama being the darling of the mainstream media is unmitigated bullshit. It is actually McCain who is being given the easy ride. Check this study out:

Evidence of media bias against Obama

    Here’s the money quote:

The Center for Media and Public Affairs at George Mason University, where researchers have tracked network news content for two decades, found that ABC, NBC and CBS were tougher on Obama than on Republican John McCain during the first six weeks of the general-election campaign.

You read it right: tougher on the Democrat.

During the evening news, the majority of statements from reporters and anchors on all three networks are neutral, the center found. And when network news people ventured opinions in recent weeks, 28% of the statements were positive for Obama and 72% negative.

Network reporting also tilted against McCain, but far less dramatically, with 43% of the statements positive and 57% negative, according to the Washington-based media center.

Yeah, yeah, I know. The study was commissioned by a faggoty shower of lefty Poindexters who hate Jesus, do backdoor abortions, and sneer at the working man. And I know that all their high-falutin’ number crunching ain’t been worth the price of a stack of steer shit in Texas since it was all debunked in that chain e-mail you got from your aunt Pete which showed that their numbers were flatly contradicted in the Book of Genesis. And I know he’s a Muslim anyway. But please, just spend some time actually watching these so-called “Liberal Media” outlets instead of just listening to what other people have cherry picked from of them. I mean shit, I could set up a blog and prove Fox News is a liberal station if all I ever did was cherry pick quotes. The fact of the matter is that of the two candidates, Obama is getting the worse deal. And this is from the supposedly liberal stations! Factor in Fox News and talk radio and it becomes even clearer that the poor bastard’s fighting an uphill battle against negative coverage. This nonsense about Obama being some sort of media darling is just a nonsensical illusion right-wing television and radio pundits use to puff themselves up. Nothing more.

Look, I agree that the coverage has been uneven. Obama has definitely received more coverage than McCain. What do you expect? He’s the new boy. People are going to be curious. However, that doesn’t change the fact that, of all the editorial statements made about Obama and McCain by these allegedly “Liberal” networks, Obama comes off far worse than McCain. There is no reason to believe these proportions wouldn’t hold true if the coverage of the candidates was equalised.

Besides, McCain has been running such an atrocious campaign that the lack of coverage could almost, almost be considered a subtle form of pro-McCain bias in and of itself. When a politician flip-flops, exposes his ignorance, and fucks up even the simplest of staged photo-ops on a daily basis, and doesn’t receive much coverage, you can be sure there’s a little mutually beneficial censorship going on somewhere.

  29. Muzzy Comment by Muzzy UNITED KINGDOM

Also, don’t forget, a substantial amount of Obama coverage comes from McCain’s advertising. I’ve yet to see even a web banner for McCain that doesn’t feature Obama’s face somewhere.

It should also be mentioned that most of the negative coverage of Obama is about stuff which is complete and total bullshit - like whether he wears a flag pin, or whether he’s a fucking Muslim or some such nonsense. Honestly, I don’t know where this meme that Obama is the media darling ever came from.

When McCain went to Europe, hardly anyone heard about it. When the messiah went, he had the three major anchors on board; they refused Fox’s request. Just why do you suppose that is, Muzzy?

And, if there was no press coverage (and no real proof) about Cindy McCain stealing money for drugs, how did YOU Hear about it?

In this country, we are getting ALL Obama, ALL the time.

As for McCain’s advertising, it’s not substantial. He’s just now basically started his campaigning. The media crowned Obama from the very beginning. All that’s left now is to make it official.

G-d, I don’t want Obama elected, but I don’t care what the daily polls say, I just gotta bad feeling about this.

The more I hear Obama speak off the cuff, the more I hope that people will realize this guy is actually more inarticulate than Bush. When I learned public speaking, “Err” and “Uhh” would get you a slap in the back of the head (old school). Anything…. connecting gaze around the room, drink of water (watch out for hyperhydration or dribbling on your tie) was better than admitting you weren’t ready with an answer.

That the media covers him 70% of the time and ignores McCain skews the figures, but it may work out all right in the end. The more Obama talks, the more the people will be exposed to the the facts that his plans are going to cost you…a lot! And that is if he actually answered the question asked.
