“Don’t Go All Identity Politics, All The Time, Conservatives”
Posted by: Emperor Misha I in Politics2:17 PM
(Via Hot Air):
I thought that conservatives scoffed at the idea that American society systematically blocks accomplished women from advancement. But within less than an hour of the vice-presidential announcement yesterday morning, the diversity epidemic had spread rapidly in the Republican political machinery, including among analysts for whom I have only the highest respect. Talk-show host Laura Ingraham enthused about Palin’s identity profile: “A lot of women are calling in excited,” Ingraham said. “The women of America will see that she might be the first woman vice president.” Palin’s identity-based advantages go beyond gender, in Ingraham’s view: “Palin has an Eskimo husband, a Down’s Syndrome son, an Iraq-bound son.” CNBC host Larry Kudlow echoed Ingraham’s assessment: “This is a breakthrough for the stodgy Republican party.”
&c, &c, &c…
Heather MacDonald has a point here, although she flies off the rails somewhat in the rest of the article, but more about that later.
She’s right to warn about the dangers of appearing as complete hypocrites if we make it “all about gender, all the time.” Not only is it a grave insult to Governor Palin’s very real, very non-chromosomally linked qualifications, it’s also everything that we supposedly stand against. The color of a person’s skin is irrelevant when it comes to determining his or her suitability and qualifications for a job. So is his or her chromosomal makeup.
Sure, the fact that she’s very much a woman is a bonus from a purely political standpoint in that it leaves the opponent in a decidedly uncomfortable position. With their misogynistic knee-jerk reflexes that everybody saw in action in their treatment of Hillary, they’re bound to fuck themselves up now that they have to deal with Governor Palin. Heck, they already have with their implied “airhead bimbo beauty queen” reactions.
But if that, her gender, is to be the central plank in the platform from which we try to elevate her to the Vice Presidency, then you can count His Imperial Majesty out. We don’t play that game.
Heather goes on:
True, Palin brings traditional political strengths—such as gun enthusiasm and a pro-life record—to the ticket. Her fight against self-dealing in Alaskan politics counters the inside-the-Beltway corruption that damaged the Republicans in the 2006 elections. And her stance on drilling for Alaskan oil admirably bolsters the Republican Party platform on energy issues. But admit it, fellow conservatives: none of these attributes pushed her over the top. Your enthusiasm for her is driven in large measure by the fact that the McCain camp has beaten the Democrats at their own game, and in so doing, driven Obama’s moment of glory off the wires. [Emphasis ours -- Emp. M.]
I will admit no such thing, because nothing could be further from the truth. I wouldn’t be in the least excited about her nomination and certainly not as excited as I am if I thought that her main, if not only, qualification is her possession of ovaries. Which it isn’t.
Even if she were as indisputably male as Ted Nugent, she’d still be more qualified than the rest of the candidates. All three of them. For one thing, she has the executive experience that all of them lack. With the possible exception of McCain who, it can be argued, had some executive experience from the Air Force Navy, but hardly the kind of national executive experience that is needed for the job of Executive in Chief of the most powerful nation on Earth.
For another, her positions on the value of life, faith and individual rights are exactly in tune with mainstream America and they are what has been completely absent from the McCain ticket up until her nomination.
Her experience with battling corruption and party establishment “business as usual” graft and pork barreling is also exactly what mainstream America has been waiting for. Not empty campaign trail promises about what she’s “going to do” if elected, the American people has had it to their back teeth with that sort of thing and know exactly what they’re worth (hint: Exactly nothing), but actual, concrete bona fides of what she has already done. Done, in many cases, against members of her very own party.
Change that we can believe in.
And, of course and really needless to say, her energy policy is entirely in tune with what the American people wants, needs and demands. Well, 70% of us anyway, and growing.
All of that combined and she could have TWO Y chromosomes and still be the best qualified candidate in the field.
So no, Heather, I will admit no such thing. I will admit that her gender is a nice political bonus in the battles to come, but even without that bonus she’d still be head and shoulders above any of the alternatives.

During the last twenty-four hours I have seen something I haven’t seen in a long time from the conservative side, not since the Reagan years. And that is excitement. A conservative that fought and beat the establishment in her home state, rising to the top office in the land. She did it while also raising a family, refusing to murder an unborn, handicapped child. You want that, go find liberals, the women murdering the unborn due to their inconvenience.
August 30th, 2008 at 2:47 PMWhat I feel from the liberals is strong fear and great confusion. Those back handed attacks on her are those frightened souls whistling in the dark. A palpable sensation, discussed over coffee this morning after performing our volunteer work here in town.
What she does is walk the talk……, and that is what the left fears most. So let them rail, it is my hope they overstep and anger the populace, blowing the election. Their diversity scam now blown right open. You mean liberal women, or liberal people of color, don’t you guys? We all know it, even if you don’t admit it. The icing on the cake being I have persoanlly heard half a dozen people say her selection has cinched their vote for McCain. It did with my wife, and it did with me. Conservatives have the power, not to mention the guns, we outnumber liberals two to one here. Now to get the undecided vote.
I want her as my president.

Heather, unfortunately, yer being a farkin’ idiot. Not only is she more qualified for the position than Obamination, McLame, and Joededumbass, she has more executive experience than the combined tickets of the rest of the Republican ticket, the Dumbocrats, the Libertarians, the Green party, and the American Socialist Party.
She is Pro-gun, Pro-life (demonstrably so, not just lip service), anti-illegal immigrant, anti-tax, anti corruption, AND cute as a bug.
Whadda ya want? Egg in yer beer?

Another little “minor” bonus no one seems to have noticed or commented on:
This young LADY, Conservative enough to satisfy even ME, win, lose or draw in the current election cycle, is now in the “on deck” circle for the next time a leap year rolls around.
Four years more, as either VP or as the Governor of the last frontier, and she will be ready to take on ANYBODY.
Go for it, Sarah!

This is what has me absolutely convinced she is the right person for the job.
Moonbats are PISSED OFF. Frothing at the mouth.
No matter what their words are, they are spoken through clenched teeth, with a red face, and a vein pulsing at the temple.

Dang. My bad.
I’m a simple Emperor. When I see shiny airplanes, I think “Air Force.” :em93:

The real nut: The second pull quote begs the question. Has Sen. McCain been sandbagging the beltway establishment, the media, and us all this time? Are his posturings and RINO behavior all a sham? He claims to be a “Teddy Roosevelt” Republican. By chosing Governor Palin, he is restoring our confidence, but what are his true intentions? We now know what she is and does, and applaud her for it.
August 30th, 2008 at 3:53 PMW’s “new tone” really meant treachery. And Newts open admission to Jerry Seib on the back page of the WSJ that, “these conservatives should understand going in, that they’re going to be sold out,” proved the only side he was on was his own. So in truth, what is John McCain?
To Governor Palin goes my support and best wishes.
To Senator McCain this admonition from Sean Connery; “you’d better be what we think you are.”

Uhhh, Boss, Navy Grey ain’t all that shiny. Just sayin’, is all . . .

This is what I see: Palin is a natural leader and, I suspect, gives short shrift to fools. Being compelled to reply less than ‘How high, sir?’ scares liberals to death. It must gall them, even frighten them, to worry that should her gaze fall upon them, they would be found wanting, found out for the weaklings they are. And god forbid that Palin should engage them in a dialog. They are much more comfortable with half-truths, blind lies and stooges like Biden and wholesale frauds like Obama.
August 30th, 2008 at 5:29 PMUsing
Fixed, was thinking out loud on the computer again. Insert: “Being compelled to reply no less than ‘How high, sir?’ ,…”

Personally? I wouldn’t give a rats ass if she was a trisexual Martian immigrant. With her record, she’s on the money. Male, female, both, black, white or purple. I’m definitely voting for HER in this election! And the next, and the next.
August 30th, 2008 at 6:57 PMUsing
Been my thinking too. Palin is right on the issues. If she can communicate as well as it seems so far, we may be seeing the next Reagan. I don’t want to jinx us here, but her and Jindal are the rising stars of the party and they will be something to watch in the coming years.

Troy:
As a matter of fact, yes, I have seen the Blue Angels, and them are some the purtiest F-18’s extant.
‘Course, IIRC, John McCain flew A-4 jets, Navy Grey versions, in combat over Vietnam. I don’t think he was ever a member of the Blue Angels.
If I am mistaken, please advise . .
August 30th, 2008 at 8:03 PMUsing
I don’t think the Blue Angels existed during Veitnam.
Ok, I was wrong.

Absolutely Crunchie. Bobby is already showing he can handle whatever gets thrown at him. At the moment he’s got things well in hand dealing with Gustav. Which of course explains why the Dems are acting like third graders and giggling like little girls about the hurricane canceling the convention. They know there aren’t going to be an assbackwards screw ups this time around. Hell Nagin can’t even go to the bathroom without Bobby’s permission. Bobby locked his shriveled nuts into his desk drawer under threat of having them gold plated and Bobby using them as cuff links.
And this time they ARE using school buses to evacuate Nawlins. :em99:

I just contributed $25 to the McCain/Palin ticket here:
http://www.johnmccain.com/
I view it as a smart down-payment on the Sarah Palin for President 2012 campaign.
Go Sarah “Barracuda” Palin!

Male, female, white, black, green, I don’t care about any of that crap. I like everything I’ve learned about her so far and for the first time in this miserable campaign I feel some genuine enthusiasm for a candidate. She is a great choice and has given me a reason to vote for McCain (I never thought I would say that).
