Come on, how else to hack together a headline describing the latest silliness from The Association of Self-Important Musical Artists Incensed by Republicans Listening to Their Music™?
Really, Wilson sisters, this is so magnificently retarded that His Majesty doesn’t even know where to begin. First of all, and please correct us if we’re wrong, but it seems to us that they have no more standing than somebody trying to send a cease and desist letter to a night club because the DJ played one of their songs. Assuming that the RNC actually paid their various royalty fees, we really don’t see how they could have done anything legally wrong by playing a song over the convention loudspeakers.
But that’s not where the true retardation lies. Listen, Wilsons, that song is so old that His Majesty remembers rocking out to it. While wearing a fur loincloth and enthusiastically swinging the femur of a woolly mammoth mostly in time with the music and yes, we do love that song ever so much. But that’s not the point. The point we’re getting at is this one: “Just how many copies of that song have you moved since, well, since it was hot during the early industrial era?” Not to be snide or anything, but most of the current music-buying public weren’t even born when it was a hit.
And here you’re handed an audience of 40 million, FORTY MILLION, listening to your song and tapping along with their feet.
Is it too rude for us to point out that you’d have to be encumbered with the IQ of a boiled rutabaga to NOT see a business opportunity there?
But instead you have a hissy fit and piss everybody off by sending off a petty, small-minded cease and desist letter demanding, DEMANDING that those Evil Rethugnicans stop playing your song, lest it catches the cooties or something.
Brilliant, girls. Just effin’ brilliant. And it’s not like you’re the only ones with permanent Republican Derangement Syndrome. Other artists have done the same on numerous occasions whenever somebody had the nerve to place your music where it might be caught within audible distance of a, *GASP!*, conservative.
Why don’t you go all the way? Start sending out liberal music stormtroopers to lurk around wherever more than three conservatives are gathered, just to make sure that none of your music is actually enjoyed by those evil, EEEEEEEEEEEEVIL peepuls?
Do you have any IDEA how retarded this makes you look to people with actual brains? Trust us, you’re not doing yourselves, your careers or your Chosen One any favors here, so by all means keep it up. Just try not to get your feewings hurt when the rest of us point fingers at you and laugh.
Morons.
P.S.: I still love that song, and now I’ll make a point of playing it every time the subject of Sarah Palin comes up. Try to stop me, you wankers, I double dog dare you.

I’ve been around for 50+ years, and I have never heard of them or their song.
September 5th, 2008 at 7:34 PMUsing
and it’s been how long since they had a hit???
I saw them as the opening act for the Stones in 1980, at an outdoor show. They were terrible live, and received very tepid applause after each song. They were just finishing a song when everyone in the stadium saw the helicopter carrying the Stones land on a practice field behind the stadium…..the entire stadium went berserk with applause and cheers. Ann Wilson, thinking the uproar was for them said “Wow…Thank You!!”…..I felt embarrassed for them.
Oh, and Ann……..you’ve gotten faaaaaaaat………

From what I’ve been reading about the Wilson sisters, they are, like, soooo last century!
September 5th, 2008 at 8:18 PMUsing
Their last, what, 473 concerts have all been shit they wrote prior to 1985?
Y’all’d think they would appreciate the business and promotion.
———————-
SkyeChild, I’m sorry you have never heard of Ann and Nancy Wilson. Heart did a love song that I never learned to appreciate until I was married.
“Crazy on You”, performed live, 1976.
Story of a young mother, couple of kids, too busy with work, housework, kids, etc. to spend any time with hubby. And tonight’s the night.
Anyway, this is my favorite version of the song.
They had several great songs in the 70’s and 80’s. Barracuda was ok, but I never thought it was one of their best.
September 5th, 2008 at 8:21 PMUsing
Or try this from later in their career.
Or this.
September 5th, 2008 at 8:27 PMUsing
Since they think we’re all evil anyway, maybe Sarah Palin should use their song “Heartless” instead? :em01:
September 5th, 2008 at 8:29 PMUsing
They are probably afraid of their “friends” in Hollywood banning them from any possible gigs…no, WAIT they haven’t worked in years!
Hmm, let me see…40 million people heard their song last night and LIKED it and probably at least 20% of them went straight to iTunes and began downloading it, putting money in their coffers, and they want it to stop?!? MUWAHAHAHAHAHA :em01:
Boy are they just dumber than hell or is it all a sick ruse for more attention to an act that’s been irrelevant for how many years? :em99:

Then again, if Obama and his ilk wanted to pay me buckets of cash to use one of my photos as their campaign logo, I know what my reaction would be…
I’d laugh all the way to the bank. If anyone asked me about it, I’d tell them the truth: The only reason I wouldn’t write in “Reagan” instead of voting Obama is because Reagan isn’t allowed to serve a third term.

DK, check the links. 70’s band called Heart.

I think she put on all the weight that Carnie Wilson shed. Back in my teen years, Ann Wilson was one of those responsible for many a nasty thought. It’s still nasty today, just not in the same way.
September 5th, 2008 at 8:44 PMUsing
On second thought, fergit Ann and Nancy. This from Bonnie Tyler seems more appropriate for the campaign.
September 5th, 2008 at 8:51 PMUsing
Geez….I grew up in the back woods of Alabama and I know who Heart is. Used to crank em up on the stereo in my Camero and cruise the parking lot at the shopping center. (that’s where you hung out before they built malls back in the ancient days)
Those two old gals best be thankful anyone remembers them at all these days.
September 5th, 2008 at 9:06 PMUsing
I like Heart’s music … truly, I do. But it’s depressing that they are being such narrow-minded pissants about this. As you’ve all pointed out … how long since you’ve had a hit, girls? Did it ever dawn on you that your fans are old people? Look in a mirror! Put your bifocals on first!
And the fact that we’re old … well SOME of us actually grew up and became conservatives. Prolly more of us than you realize. But if the royalties dwindle, one of you might be able to hit Jenny Craig up for a job.
September 5th, 2008 at 9:06 PMUsing
Well, Nancy got me through many a adolescent night. They had their hey-day and like y’all said, should be thankful for the publicity.
Wil, excellent choice! And now she’s here.

When you were born isn’t the only criteria. I was born in ‘62 and I heard the Beatles and Elvis when I was a kid. It’s called the radio. And I knew all of the 60s folk music because that’s what my Dad listened to. I also know Elvis, the Everly Brothers, Fats Domino and opera because that’s what my Mom listened to.
My kids know and have heard everything from the 50s through today, either through my husband and me, music lessons, or their friends. And decrepit old me has even heard of Rage Against the Machine and Rise Against because I know what my eldest son listens to. Gag!
And this really got me… my youngest son (15) is playing Earth, Wind and Fire in marching band! I played them in high school only in jazz band. It’s like hearing the music you grew up with in the grocery store for the first time. Sad, very sad…..

Sorry, but I don’t think “Hot for Teacher” is an option, either; Van Halen also sent a note to the McCain campaign earlier this year complaining about the use of their music at a McCain rally. So did Jackson Browne, which makes him just the only person in America who doesn’t think “Running on Empty” is an appropriate description of Democrat energy policy… :em01:
Wonder how many Heart CDs, LPs and cassettes wound up in trash cans this morning? :em93:
…Under the circumstances, I’m hoping the McCain/Palin campaign doesn’t play “Invincible,” “All Fired Up,” “Hit Me With Your Best Shot” or any of Pat Benatar’s other great hits. She’s one of my personal favorites…and I’d really hate to have to drop her from my private playlist because she can’t stand to have Republicans rocking out to her music… :em41:
September 5th, 2008 at 11:28 PMUsing

By the way: Several years ago I caught part of an interview with Chrissie Hynde of the Pretenders, who was mightily amused - and a bit flattered - that Rush Limbaugh uses one of her songs for the intro to his show. (On Rush’s show, IIRC.) I forget Hynde’s exact words, but she said that although she profoundly disagreed with Rush’s politics she thought he had great taste in music, that Hynde’s own parents listened to Rush regularly, and that in her opinion Rush “wasn’t all that dangerous.” (That last was said with a laugh.)
Too bad the Wilson sisters didn’t have a similar classy reaction. Unless they’re somehow afraid that being associated with Republicans will somehow hurt their celebrity status and album sales from liberals…which I suppose is also possible…
September 5th, 2008 at 11:34 PMUsing
Wes,
My first reply is caught in the Trap. Benatar is Republican!
September 5th, 2008 at 11:35 PMUsing
I think Bambi’s theme song should be Carly Simon’s, “You’re so vain.”
Sarahcuda’s could be Helen Reddy’s, “I am woman!”
September 5th, 2008 at 11:36 PMUsing
Actually, Mrs M, I think the Nuge’s “Kiss My Ass” (from his Spirit of the Wild CD) would be a much better choice… :em01: :em96: :em01:
September 5th, 2008 at 11:36 PMUsing
Actually, I was in Ft. Campbell (88/89) when I first saw MTV and Remote Control.
I grew up on Ultraman, Johnny Socko, Speed Racer (the cartoon not the movie), All in the Family, M*A*S*H, Barney Miller, Pro Wrestling (before Vince McMahon), Saturday mornings with Bugs Bunny, the Kroft Superstars, and Shazaam, Saturday Afternoons with Creature Double Feature, Dr. Shock (strictly East Coast), Kung Fu Theater… etc. etc. etc.
Anyone else remember The Hudson Brothers Razzle Dazzle Hour?
September 5th, 2008 at 11:41 PMUsing
Hudson Brothers, Smothers Brothers, Laugh In, Carol Burnett, Lawrence Welk, Red Skelton, Dean Martin, Hee Haw, Sonny and Cher, Donny and Marie…..not many variety shows back then we DIDN’T watch.
September 5th, 2008 at 11:46 PMUsing
I actually think that Pat Benatar might be one of the few musicians who would be more willing to let the RNC use her music (she at least seems more conservative than most, but she is kind of crunchie- she and her husband have an organic farm). I think “Invincible” would be great.
How about something from the 21st century I was trying to figure out why the theme song to the 1982 World Series Champion Cardinals- “Celebration”- was played after McCain’s speech. I mean, come on, people. Can we at least keep it in the past 1/4 century?
My choice for a 21st century pick is this. Seriously, not only does it mock the media’s view of “Caribou Barbie”, but it also fits right into the poll that said that most people would rather have a beer with her than the other 3 in this battle. :em03: And we have a good idea that Gretchen Wilson will be ok with it, since she sang with John Rich and Cowboy Troy at the RNC.
Yeah, it’s country? So?
September 5th, 2008 at 11:50 PMUsing

Yep. We never missed a single show of any of those. I remember one particular episode of the Carol Burnette show when she was playing a little girl singing about her favorite doll…one line went something like “Pull her string and she goes through puberty”……I turned to my very straight laced parents and asked “What’s Puberty??” and watching them both blush very red while they tried to decide whether or not to answer, or just ignore me. :em01: :em01:
September 6th, 2008 at 12:12 AMUsing

September 6th, 2008 at 12:24 AMUsing
Gunsniper, I guess that makes me a “Senior Junior” from the Nursery of ‘69 too, eh? :em93:
When I heard about the Heart trollops whining that the Republicans used “Barracuda” at the convention and didn’t deign to ask their permission, I had this vision of them lodging their grievances to McCain, and him responding with this classic Robocop line…

But I think it would be effective to show Obambi discussing his ‘policy’ objectives with Steely Dan’s “Only a Fool Would Say That.”
September 6th, 2008 at 1:24 AMUsing
No … You know I think the Nuge should write a song just for Sarah and reference Heart in it, in an offhanded and less than flattering way.
September 6th, 2008 at 2:25 AMUsing
Seems to me if you are gonna raise a stink about somebody playing your music, you should make sure it’s really yours. The way I understand it, neither of the Wilson girls owns the song, and the two guys who wrote it are thrilled about it being used.

September 6th, 2008 at 7:34 AMBack in the 70’s, I was a huge Nancy Wilson fan. Had the albums, went to concerts, bought the T-shirt. I thought the use of the song was dead on. I just hope the RNC paid the publishing company to use it and continues. I don’t care what the politics of Heart are. I still listen to them. Hell, I still like the Dixie Chicks even if they are political waterheads. I’m into the music, and really don’t care if the artist is an asshat like Springsteen or Melloncamp. I must admit I do like to find out that some of my favorite players are Republicans like Jeff Baxter and of course the Nuge. As a matter of fact, I think Ted Nugent would make a damn fine President of the N.R.A.
Rock may be old, fat and ugly now but it’s still alive and well.

No fiddling with the facts, simple blatant truth. B’HO and his hundred plus million dollars pissed away on nothing, vs a “pork barrel” project that got canned by Sarah. On and on. Absolute detestation is eminently imminent.

you people are bringing back a lot of memory’s with the Saturday morning review and the variety show list.
my favorte things to stay up late for was “Chiller Theater” a stupid 50’s horror movie presented by a local tv person with a couple of goofy sidekicks. The only reason “Elvira mistress of the night” was popular was her cleavage. Being 18 when i first saw her that wasn’t a bad thing…. :em01:

Damn - only one of the above posts predates me… frig.. I ain’t gettin’ old.
Red Skelton - the epitome of class. Rowan and Martin - I laughed so hard I cried. And Elvira - ummmm….. Elvira. NOTHING will ever beat the Dean Martin roast of Frank Sinatra.
But I always loved “I Only want to make love to you” - even remade the old records into an MP3 on that one. What a pair of dumb shits - gets all that publicity and then tells the audience “Fuck Off”.
Hey - anyone know what happened to the DickMe Chicks after they pulled that shit?

A little Chevy trivia, The name “Camaro” was almost nixed by GM when the new platform was heading to market in the 60’s.
Why? The word translates today roughly as friend, or companion, but the Marketing gurus at GM discovered somehow in old world Spanish it means “Little fish”.
So they almost nixed it as they didn’t want to have the car known as a “little fish” vs more powerful names such as Mustang, and Barracuda.
Why, Yes Virginia that IS utterly useless knowledge that rattles around my otherwise empty skull….now you too have it.
No thanks needed. :em01:

class of ‘72 here, been a rocker since I was about 14 years old. This kid from LA moved in next door to me and he brought his collection of Doors, Cream, and Hendrix albums with him. We spent that entire summer in his basement listening to those vinyls at maximum volume…..it was nothing short of total enlightenment for me musically. He also brought his Bill Cosby albums too, and I’ve been a fan ever since.
Grew up watching 77 Sunset Strip, Combat, F troop, Laugh-In, Rocky and Bullwinkle, Creature Features, Night Gallery, Monty Python, Benny Hill, and ANY NASA space shot from Mercury to Apollo.
1969 to 1973 was also the golden age of freeform FM radio, and I listened religiously. I hate what the commercialization of FM has done to playlists for modern FM stations, it’s so generic that I can’t listen to it. My first job out of college was as a station engineer for a college NPR station, I pretty much ran the station on weekends and eventually was offered a slot as a DJ. Worked three nights a week from midnight to 6 AM. Had the station all to myself for 6 hours with two rooms full of albums……and I played whatever I damned well wanted to for 6 straight hours……could there have been any better job in the universe? and why in the hell did I quit to do ANYTHING else………I must have been out of my mind.
XM has a station called Deep Tracks that is a throwback to those freeform rock stations of the past. I listen all the time to it. The only commercial radio I listen to anymore is talk radio, and once my buddy (who is a local talk show host) and Rush are over, the radio switches over to XM.

And for the record I wore out 3 vinyls (one of which was a Master Recording), 2 cassets and currently have cd’s of The Wall AND had the unfortunate opportunity to see The Wall @ The Wall.

I was born in 1984 and first heard of Heart in 2001, while I was home-schooled for high school. My math lessons were on video tapes, so I would watch the lesson, and then I would turn the TV on to whatever was good and do my work. More often than not, it was VH1, and whatever Behind the Music happened to be on at the time.

Born 1958. Loved Skelton, hated Burnett.
Man from UNCLE, Gilligan (the black and white ones), The Prisoner, Checkmate, Maverick (Garner AND Kelly), Wild Wild West. Good TV times all.
Hell, I still have several Betamax tapes, and a recorder. IMHO, better quality than VHS.
And I always got a kick out of the older LP’s proclaiming “High-Fidelity”.
Nowadays, since I can’t hear as good as I used too, a CD or an MP3 is fine, but to really get the full flavor of the music, I’ll throw on some virgin vinyl.

I will not bemoan Ann and Nancy Wilson’s dislike of hearing their song played out of its original context:
Note these two lines from the song:
Playing cool music (the “real thing”) was good enough for Ann and Nancy Wilson, but not good enough for the record company sleazoids. The music industry “barracudas” pulled a cruel and grotesque publicity stunt - without even consulting the band.
The McCain camp didn’t properly vet the song. It was picked because some McCain staffer noticed that there’s a song out there with Sarah Palin’s nickname in the title. But lyrics (almost always) mean things; musicians and especially songwriters tend to want that meaning to be preserved, especially when the song derives from deep personal experience. (I imagine this is a prime motivator for those musicians who don’t want their music used in advertising.)
Ann and Nancy Wilson needed to drive this point home thoroughly and tactfully, and without resorting to filing court documents. They get PR brownie points if they recommend recommend one or two Heart selections for the McCain camp to play as generic background music.
Let’s not have any Dixie Chicks comparisons until the Wilsons start whining about being from the same state as some wascawwy Wepublican.

Alan
I do understand your point, but due to 45 years of rock’n'roll I’m lucky to be able to hear the melody, let alone all the lyrics. When I heard the song, I knew immediately what they were shooting for. It’s like “Born In The USA”, it ain’t the proud ‘Merican athem that 90% of the population thinks it is, but that’s what everyone want’s to believe because it just rocks.
Ann and Nancy can FO if the GOP paid the license and/or the song actually belongs to the guitarist. (Should have hired BisW as their lawyer….oh, couldn’t, he wasn’t born yet. :em99: )
On the other topic of this thread,…Born in ‘54, graduated HS in ‘72. I’m 54 (for those to old to hold the figures long enough to do the math or those to young to do simple subtraction…there, did I insult everybody?)
In my childhood, I remember our first B&W TV, first remote control, having the first Color TV in the neighborhood, the first home calculator ($100 and it did +, -, / and X…no Mem.), wax lips, candy cigarettes and the SR-71 making a speed run over L.A. and damn near busting the schools windows. On the down side, I remember the JFK assassination and the deaths of Jimi, Janis and Jim (Hendrix, Joplin and Morrison).
To tell the truth, I have been amazed at the age span here. I usually tell people that we’re mostly abunch of old farts, pissed of off at what the U.S. has become, but now I see that there is hope for the world with all you young’un’s hanging round.
Cheers to you kids. :em03: And remember to listen to your elders. :em93:

I’m not sure if this is all that strong a recommendation for your claim to geezerhood, fair lady. I remember watching Ike on TV. And Howdy Doody, *JUST* after it went national. I remember the smell of a brand-new Edsel, and the far better ride of anything built pre-war.
I remember 15-episode movie-house serials like “The Crimson Ghost” and anything with Buster Crabbe (who I met in 1974). I remember when boys wore Princetons and butch-cuts with real stand-up bangs. I remember roadside Barbasol signs and Red Man ads on the sides of real barns, not metal sheds.
Hell, I even remember when Dems were honest and patriotic.

(THREAD HIJACK BACK TO TOPIC:)
I found out Ted Nugent has gone on record as an avid Sarah Palin supporter, ending a written tribute to her with the phrase “Let’s rock!” The post itself is here….
THE NUGE
I live about 40 minutes from Nuge. If there is anyone better-suited to write Palin’s campaign song, I cannot think of who it would be. LOCK AND LOAD, SARAHCUDA ought to keep Heart’s lawyers up at night…..
(Since I’m hijacking the hijack…..)
Also of strong interest is the return of Eject! Eject! Eject! superstar Bill Whittle, and a stunning factual recap in National Review of why the GOP didn’t deserve to win in ‘08, but now — against all odds — the maverick and some day RINO McCain has pinpointed just what went wrong with conservatism.
Whittle contends we’re seeing a prism-shift where both parties are going through major realignments. It’s long, it’s funny, and it’s as true as a heart attack. (I’d love to hear Misha’s take on it, anyway.)
WHITTLE
(/HIJACK)
Who remembers actually watching Your Show of Shows, or seeing actual Old Gold Cigarettes dancing cigarette boxes (in high heels, no less)? Has anybody but me got fond memories of when ABC first went on the air and John Cameron Swayze became a voice we could trust for news?

Whittle’s back? COOL!
Way beyond COOL!
He’s getting ready to publish another book of essays. I’ve read his one first three times, not to mention being able to quote from it.
I live within 30 miles of him does that give me any street kredz? Not everyone and everything in the hellhole of L.A. is a waste.
Do you have term limits? I’m looking at 15 years until I retire to your fair state and I need to know if Ted’s got enough time to shoot all the politicians (they breed so fast) to get us back to a Republic.

I understand there are many Texans here, as are Texans-in-spirit. I grew up on westerns. I know these sentiments. Half are the ones who save the threatened ranch-owner’s widow from the OTHER half who want her water rights. God knows you can’t walk the streets of Dallas without fearing for cattle stampedes. Or assassins.
In my service years, I was treated to some of the most florid, poetic, raucous, profane, outlandish, and memorable Tales of Texas, but always drew the line on their amusing idea that Texas rules our nation. Ahem. Lyndon “I’ll Draft and Murder Your Son” Johnson — All-time record-holder U.S. body-count champeen. Bush is a freaking piker in comparison, and isn’t even a native Texan like Johnson. Landslide Lyndon, indeed.
This well-intended Texan buzzing about Nugent reminds me of an Oklahoma lad (in my boot camp at Glakes), who solemnly assured me Texas grows mosquitos big enough to carry off children, when they aren’t being used to spray-paint large barns and other structures. Not the kids, the skeeters. People crank up Bob Wills for background, telling that stuff. Or maybe the Texas Jewboys.
Of course, I know the odds regarding any Oklahoman telling the truth about Texas winds up as good (if not better than) what I myself declare about Ohio. Buckeyes — named after a nut. But I digress….
No, despite their wails and gnashings, those nefarious Stetsoned Texans shall not prevail over the political candidacy of Ted Nugent. Wax your moustaches and threaten foreclosure on all the ranch-owning widows you like, you villains, but you shall not have the Nuge.
I stand for the great hunting and outdoors state of Michigan, where Nugent for many years lived (and I believe still lives) in Jackson County, the *TRUE* birthplace of the Republican Party. (*Evil glittering smile to any Ripon believers: cutesy wave to the delusionals.*)
NAY!!!! You cowboys may not have him! We Michiganders (yes, that’s derived from “goose”) have first call. (Quack.)
Any minute the Nuge decides to go grab our Ontario export, Gov. Jennifer Granholm, and toss her sorry ass back where we got her, the better off my home state will be.
If Ahhhhhhnold or Rompin’ Ronnie can do it, Nuge can be a Governor of Michigan. He sure as hell can’t do any worse than Granholm or that blithering clod Jim Blanchard. I have a theory Blanchard pissed off Canuckistan (as U.S. Ambassador there) *SO* bad that they sent us Granholm as revenge. I can believe it. Look whose dollar is worth more.
Um, er … back to matters of this thread. All this Texan talk has got me flustered, see.
Here’s the unedited version from Nuge’s own site. It’s a much better link for bookmarking purposes.

Dammit quiller
I was in a good mood this morning and you go and drag this into the discussion:
I’ll give you a hint, I thank the Lord for allowing Reagan to save this state (or at least slow the slide) every day.
Ahhhhhhnold on the other hand is a bigger disappointment than McVain. Our he-man has folded on all Repub issues. Personally, I think Maria cut him off until he “did the right thing”.
As far as Nugent and Texas, the man made his choice. They got him and you don’t, so nyah. :em93:
How’s that for decisive Rottie debate? :em95:
September 7th, 2008 at 1:24 PMUsing
I had to re-read my own post before seeing your inference taken. Gulp.
Whoa, scout. I was casting no aspersions on Rompin’ Ronnie Reagan, nor will I. My point was that the revolving door is wide open. Fred Thompson got left out, or Sonny Bono. And so forth.
People I talk to in Jackson say he still keeps his home near there. I’ll concede the point if he changed voter registration to Texas, is that fair?

As a former Dad’s Remote Control, I remember the 3 channels we could get on a good day on the B&W TV with the rotary channel control. Channels 5, 8, and 12, NBC, ABC and CBS. Me and the first Mustangs rolled off the assembly line within days of each other back in ‘64.
I remember being in the the High School library during Study Hall and hearing about President Reagan getting shot. Graduated in ‘82. The Doc told me once that I was in great shape…. for someone twice my age….
It ain’t the years baby, it’s the mileage.
And speaking of The Carol Burnette show, here’s one that still makes me almost pee myself when I watch it….
And I still say that Texas is the only state that could tempt me to leave Missouri… If I didn’t want to go to Alaska to beat the heat….

Sounds like there’s too much reminiscin’ goin’ on out here. All the socio-economic and cultural references being divirgent indicates a desire for a narrower focus and a more definitive sample. I’ll stick to guy things.
1. Price of a White Castle burger at ages 12, 16, and 21: $.12, $.12, and $.16.
2. Ford, GM, or Mopar: It’s a Mopar driven by Richard Petty or Buddy Baker.
3. Favorite local band. Johnny Kay and the Runnaways. And I still think Bob Kuban is overated.
4. Favorite vice and or misdemeanor criminal indulgence. My first is pinball machines. I now own 3.
5. Most hated academic subject. Spanish; my school didn’t offer German.
6. First hero; Davie Crockett
7. Lionel or American Flyer, (the latter,of course).
Last and most important; your age when you received or bought your first gun. 22
So, who gives a cockroaches dropping about some burned out rockers bitching? Concentrate on the basics.

You didn’t bring us much closer to a common sample, up to 16 I had no idea what the hell a White Castle was!
I have an idea, where were you and what were you doing on the day Ronald Regan was sworn in for his FIRST term.
I was for example a SSG(P) at Ft Devens Mass, trying to teach IDIOTS how to program Diagnostic Loops for the Computer Subsystems of IEW Systems.
Also , sorry Venerablehawk, got you by at least a year.

Old Dog -
I can still remember listening to the Inaugeral Speach, and listening that the hostages were headed home. I can picture the radio on my desk (I actually still have it - and it still works. )
That was my first post-service civilian job - and I was still a relative newbie.
Damn, I miss rawhide.
Wish they still made that model…
