We all bloody well know that, for very good reasons, what’s first and foremost on the minds of voters right now is the economy. Which would sort of suggest that a successful candidate would hammer on that point a bit, no?
The Obamessiah certainly seems to think so, since he constantly blames the crisis on McCain and Republicans and, guess what?, all of those attacks are quite effective with voters. Not because they’re true, as we all know they’re the direct opposite of what actually happened, but because the American people want to blame somebody for this mess. Anybody. And if only one scapegoat is being presented in the media and campaign ads, then guess which one gets the blame? You have three guesses, the first two don’t count.
But nevermind, you say, all of those ridiculous claims about Republican “de-regulation” being to blame when it is quite EASILY provable that the REPUBLICANS were the ones desperately trying to REGULATE Fannie and Freddie, with McVain in the lead, yet they got nowhere because of DEMOCRATS stonewalling the attempts. Sorry about the shouting, but it’s time to shout now.
So no problem, right? Just present the true story and the Obamessiah’s lies will be shot down in flames. This is true. As a matter of fact, the NRCC did just that in an ad and, when focus group tested, went through the roof with both Republicans and Democrats.
Imagine that. When voters are presented with the true story about the whole mess and its origins, they swing heavily Republican. Who’dathunkit?
Obviously not McBraindead, because he continues to refuse stubbornly to run with the subject. We’ve heard various explanations for this, but the most common one seems to be that he’s “afraid of being called a racist” if he does. I don’t know where he left his nutsack, but somebody better find it and hand it back to him. The court of public opinion functions pretty much exactly like any other court: If only one side gets to present his case, then he wins by default.
But that’s not really important, of course. At least not to McVain it isn’t.
Handing the reins of power to a serial liar, a gun-hating supporter of infanticide radical Marxist who pals around with unrepentant domestic terrorists and openly supports any infringement on free speech that he can get away with (and the ones he can’t he subcontracts out to his nutroots) and a friend and supporter of an organization currently under investigation for the most massive, blatant attempt at voter fraud in the history of our nation, handing him the White House and a majority in both the House and Senate isn’t important.
No, what’s really important, the very central issue of this whole campaign is that a vain old doddering fool doesn’t get called “racist” by a bunch of drooling nutcases. THAT’S what’s important. To McVain, anyway.

Excellency: As Ace says, the RSCC is going to have to go over and around Who? to save 40 GOP Senate seats. McCain is acting as if the financial crisis is much, much worse than anybody in a position of power has dared to let on so far. When did whassisface/Palin start plummeting earthward? When the real shit started hitting the fan a month ago. You can almost see the man thinking, “I already did more than half a decade in a Hanoi hellhole, and I really don’t want to spend the eternity of history in another one.”
This is by no means intended to take anything away from what you and Ace have said about fighting back effectively. It’s absolutely long past time for this campaign to forget about Ayers and start counterpunching on the crisis, repeatedly and forcefully. Still, nothing in his behavior in the past four weeks contradicts a sneaking suspicion that he figures the GOP wins in the long run by losing this round.
