Orson Scott Card on Presstitutes and the Fannie/Freddie Crisis
Posted by: Emperor Misha I in Journaljizzm, Verbal Bitch Slaps10:23 PM
Orson is, by the way, a Democrat.
Isn’t there a story here? Doesn’t journalism require that you who produce our daily paper tell the truth about who brought us to a position where the only way to keep confidence in our economy was a $700 billion bailout? Aren’t you supposed to follow the money and see which politicians were benefiting personally from the deregulation of mortgage lending?
I have no doubt that if these facts had pointed to the Republican Party or to John McCain as the guilty parties, you would be treating it as a vast scandal. “Housing-gate,” no doubt. Or “Fannie-gate.”
Instead, it was Senator Christopher Dodd and Congressman Barney Frank, both Democrats, who denied that there were any problems, who refused Bush administration requests to set up a regulatory agency to watch over Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and who were still pushing for these agencies to go even further in promoting sub-prime mortgage loans almost up to the minute they failed.
As Thomas Sowell points out in a TownHall.com essay entitled “Do Facts Matter?” ( http://snipurl.com/457townhall_com] ): “Alan Greenspan warned them four years ago. So did the Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers to the President. So did Bush’s Secretary of the Treasury.”
These are facts. This financial crisis was completely preventable. The party that blocked any attempt to prevent it was … the Democratic Party. The party that tried to prevent it was … the Republican Party.
Yet when Nancy Pelosi accused the Bush administration and Republican deregulation of causing the crisis, you in the press did not hold her to account for her lie. Instead, you criticized Republicans who took offense at this lie and refused to vote for the bailout!
What? It’s not the liar, but the victims of the lie who are to blame?

Those of us in the industry are just amazed at the “IT WASN’T US!!!!!!!!” reaction from the left.
Reminds us of the “IT WASN’T US” screeching of the taliban about 12:32 pm 9/11/2001.

Democrat or not, I don’t think Card is your standard liberal. I know a few liberals who won’t read his stuff anymore because they don’t like his politics. Or perhaps they just don’t like anyone who points out the inconvenient truths.

Card’s also Mormon …. he places truth above party loyalty .. now if only Reid did that .. He’s Mormon but places party loyalty above the truth.

Cousin Orson shore does write pretty, don’t he?
He had better be careful though, cause the fake Secret Service agents are going to come around and yank his lefty creds.
(I call him Cousin because I am also a Card, and should be dealt with.)

IC, I may be. Card is not that common a name, but I don’t know if it’s the one he was born with or not. It is the one that I was born with, but not the one that Dad was born with (Grandpa was a good man, he married a woman that already had one kid and adopted him).
October 21st, 2008 at 3:25 AMMy Dad was RLDS, but I understand that’s not the same thing. Not sure about Grandpa.
Being a fan of the genre, I love OSC’s work, both the Alvin Maker series and the various SF books.

Diogenes finds an honest Democrat?

I bet that search was harder than the one he undertook for an honest man.

Card gets it. Don’t know how many other Dems out there do (Joe Lieberman, certainly, maybe some PUMAs, maybe some Blue Dog supporters), and it might be too little too late. But his article is at least proof that not every Dem has sacrificed his own honor on the altar of political expediency and the lust for power.

The press only pimps it’s own agenda. And freebies for losers like themselves tops the list The dufoids who defaulted on their loans can’t be at fault because the press loves them and hates the bankers. The Demoncrats are heros for extorting the money from the awful stingy financial industry because we all learned in kindergarten that we’re supposed to share everything. Ropes, trees, journalists.

Alas, despite the truth he speaks, this will have little effect on Obama’s supporters. Card, you see, has committed the Unpardonable Sin and far too many that need to read and understand this are incapable of accepting truth when it comes from someone whose opinions they disagree with.

Wow. We’ve gotten to a point where writers at religious institutions are pointing out what biased liars the main stream media is. And they’re right.
We’re not in Kansas anymore, Toto.

What we see, in the case of lamestream media, is a Soviet-style propaganda campaign. They know there are still reasonable voices out there. But these voices are being ignored, or drowned out until the Fairness Doctrine is adopted and they are “dealt with” in a more, ahem, permanent manner. Idiot “masses” have been so dumbed down over the years of publik edumbication that they are too intellectually lazy to tell truth from fiction.
Somebody wants dictatorial power, and Husseini is being pimped as a frontman for someone’s grand ambitions. Hate to sound like a conspiracy theorist loon, but this looks like a preparation for a commie coup. There is a lot left to loot here in America, and the cannibals are ready to finish the job.

I often check out OSC’s website
I do not always agree with him but he is well reasoned and respectful. Well worth the surfing.

Thanks for the link—I didn’t know Scott Card was a journalist these days. He used to be a pretty good sci-fi writer, especially of short-stories.
Too bad what he says will be ignored by the Dhimmi-Stream Media and its campers. I agree with those above who question how liberal he is. He’s LDS, and those folks generally aren’t liberal by the current standards. Besides, he’s far too logical and honest to be considered a Lib.

Orson is one of my favourite recent authors of Sci-Fi, have read most of what he has written and I will continue to support him with my purchases. He subs occasionally on a couple of talk shows I listen to in the evenings and he is what I remember the Democrat party being up through JFK, a CONSERVATIVE, RATIONAL, America first human being, not the vermin that many have become of late.
BTW my CPL came through, the board approved it without issue (local sheriff, a deputy and the county lawyer were the panel and the Lawyer did all the talking!) Out to get a new pistol at the next local gun show. Why you ask? Cause I am fearful that an Obambi presidency will become “liberals gone wild” to the detriment of the Constitution and my rights, what few I seem to have left in the Peoples Republic of (Tax and Layoffs) Michigan!
