512 Obama Voters 11/13/08-11/15/08 MOE +/- 4.4 points

97.1% High School Graduate or higher, 55% College Graduates

Results to 12 simple Multiple Choice Questions

57.4% could NOT correctly say which party controls congress (50/50 shot just by guessing)

81.8% could NOT correctly say Joe Biden quit a previous campaign because of plagiarism (25% chance by guessing)

82.6% could NOT correctly say that Barack Obama won his first election by getting opponents kicked off the ballot (25% chance by guessing)

88.4% could NOT correctly say that Obama said his policies would likely bankrupt the coal industry and make energy rates skyrocket (25% chance by guessing)

56.1% could NOT correctly say Obama started his political career at the home of two former members of the Weather Underground (25% chance by guessing).

And yet…..

Only 13.7% failed to identify Sarah Palin as the person on which their party spent $150,000 in clothes

Only 6.2% failed to identify Palin as the one with a pregnant teenage daughter

And 86.9 % thought that Palin said that she could see Russia from her “house,” even though that was Tina Fey who said that!!

Only 2.4% got at least 11 correct.

Only .5% got all of them correct. (And we “gave” one answer that was technically not Palin, but actually Tina Fey)

Un-fucking-believable…..

Be sure to send it to Jon Stewart, Bill Maher, Jay Leno, and David Letterman. Apparently, that’s where the Obamacons get all their political info.

The founding fathers made one mistake when drafting the constitution: They didn’t bank on human stupidity. Idiots will be the death of this country.

Maybe we ought to come up with some starship troopers-esque voting system, whereby you actually have to earn the right somehow. That way we avoid handing the keys to the country to any idiot who can stumble into a ballot box and fill in a circle.

Sure, we can win intelligent debate, but how do you fight mass stupidity like this?

I have been employed at an institution of “higher learning” for over a decade now, and I’m amazed at what passes for intelligence coming out of the “educated” masses.

Jaybear, especially, will appreciate this one: at our all-campus meeting last Friday, we went over the mission and vision statements for the university, and the “motto” that was put up on the screen was, “Education isn’t about KNOWLEDGE; it’s about ACTION.”

    HUH?????

We definitely see that. Obama voters may be “educated,” but obviously action was more important than knowledge. Without knowledge, one cannot take the proper action.

Actually, I believe they were well aware of the ignorance of the masses - they referred to it as the “tyranny of the majority” - which is why they set up a representative republic instead of a pure democracy.

Maybe some of the more well-read historians here can correct/supplement this, too, but the right to vote has been developed over time. Of course, women couldn’t vote at all until the early 20th century. I seem to also recall that there was a restriction - either discussed or originally implemented - of having to own land before being given the right to vote.

At any rate, our nation has become more “enlightened” over time (”/ sarcasm”), and look where it has taken us.

Now prove you actually let that information tumble around in your head before we’ll let you vote.”

This developent? I am not in the slightest bit surprised. But, me being little but a red neck country hick, how could I know jack shit? Maybe the two thousand books I have here? Fuck these morons, usless people. Not in a good space this morning. Just got back home with a sick wife from work. When my lady is sick I don’t fuck around, she becomes my top priority. Not after once watching her on life support for four days, then going home bawling my eyes out. She is stressed enough, times are austere. I handle all this shit. Finding out this morning, courtesy of the Fresno Bee, that my bank may soon disappear. I left checking alone, but savings is getting smaller, real fast. Six hundred bucks hit our ATM cards at four-thirty this morning. My gun safe can handle it. I’ll get the rest tomorrow……..
Yet in all this she is very much looking forward to the new addition to the family, our soon to be had .357 Ruger revolver with a six inch barrel. She wants to shoot .38 Specials, easier on her arthritis…..tomorrow, I hope.

I agree with your sentiments here, but isn’t that just another outrageous spoon-feeding accommodation of voter stupidity – “Here, let me help you hold the gun so you don’t shoot yourself (or me) in the head.” There is just no sense of shame about gross ignorance anymore. Instead of being subjected to real and deserved humiliation, these folks are judged with a resounding “Whatever!” by the masses, while the rest of us not-so-clueless shake our heads and wonder where it all went wrong and where we could possibly begin to rectify such a hopelessly deteriorated situation.

I am inclined to place heavy blame on the dumbing-down of the K-12 system over the last couple of decades (some of my kids’ textbooks make me want to scream and long for that musty, stodgy, no-frills 1960’s algebra text that forced me to simply learn the material or else, sans story time and pretty pictures), but I am at somewhat of a loss to explain the older individuals in the video. I hate to say it, but if this is a continuing trend, our days are short until America as we knew it slips beneath the waves and whatever continues will be the result of unthinking masses bleating for whoever keeps the food and sparklies coming.

    E.g.:
“So, are you in favor of Obama’s pro-life position?” “Sure.”
“And you think, like Obama, that we should finish the course in Iraq?” “Makes sense to me.”

    And the kicker:

He was so bored of the remedial style HS courses I took him to Marian Catholic HS for their entrance exam (was #1 private HS in the Midwest). He did good on the exam and boy did his ego inflate. Sometime later, his siblings complained that he was bragging on and on about his being a genius. I admit, there were one or two of those questions I would not have been able to answer. Biden’s plagiarism was one. I never heard about it, though knowing other things about the man I definitely wouldn’t doubt it.

The other question that I may not have answered correctly I can’t even remember what it was.

If you look at the absolute shit sold on TV that never works as advertised, you have to realize there must be masses of dumbasses buying it. Not only do they buy one, but if you pay for the s&h you get a second “free”. Heads up to the mendicants but the s&h covers the cost of the product AND the shipping, AND a profit margin. This may seem off topic, but it isn’t. It shows a symptom.

I can take people individually, but for some reason, call it Marinia’s law, the more people you put in a room the dumber the aggragate I.Q. becomes. Exponentially. Take a Mensa meeting. You’ve never seen such a group of retards. These are the intellectual elite, in theory, but put them all together and I would rather volunteer at Special Olympics (and I have) than deal with them.

Same goes for the recent Obama-craze. On paper, it’s impossible. A Marxist running for leadership of a Capitalist country. His record on paper wouldn’t qualify him for one of those appointments he’s now handing out. If logic and reason were used, he’d never even have gotten his party’s nomination.

Yet the reality is, he’s elected. By the masses. Which means the masses are idiots, comparable to the monkey cage at the zoo. I think we all know what those monkeys do when the crowd applauds at the zoo. If you don’t, go visit and clap for the monkeys some time. Then duck if there’s no glass.

Never underestimate the stupidity of others. That’s called,”setting yourself up for failure”. Instead, be like all those companies that are harnessing the power of stupidity and profitting from it. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to patent a douche-warmer and sell it on QVC.

I never served myself, but I consider myself part of a “military family” - brothers who served, and my dad signed up right after Pearl Harbor, served on ammo ships in the Pacific, and eventually had 28 years in the Navy. But as much as I love and respect the military and all who serve, I wonder if we are approaching the point where I would say, “Don’t bother - your sacrifice just isn’t worth it - the America worth defending simply doesn’t exist anymore. There are remnants of us who get it, but these self-absorbed pinheads populating this once great land are not worth a single drop of your blood. yea I’ve been “sick” since november 5th…..and sleep deprived. Last night I had a very vivid dream about waking up to put on my government approved clothing, and grabbing my government approved lunch box with a prepackaged lunch and heading to work at the government owned factory where everyone worked the same government approved shift lengths, ate the same government approved lunch, and discussed the same government approved topics during break, left work in the same government approved vehicles, and went home with the same government approved pay checks to their government approved modular housing units…..

what really made it scary is there were no knives since everything in the government approved prepackaged meals is pre-cut so I couldn’t even slit my throat in the government approved shower stall!

and it’s no joke…I’ve had this dream 4 times since the 5th…waking up drenched in sweat and my heart beating right out of my chest. I’ve been spending my days checking my equipment, sharpening blades, and making sure my survival necessities are met.

I will not be some socialist drone….I will remove myself from society if I must….and after this election I realy doubt there is any way to save this country other then a yea umm this isn’t a secure channel….but you get the idea.

And for DJ… sir, What exactly is the justification for a Civilian Security Force? Thats armed? Why couldnt they operate like the majority of Security (that way out numbers police officers in this country as it is) and act unarmed as a observe & report? You do know how irresponsible it is to put weapons on the “street” right? Who’s going to train these people? Where these people going to be recruited, from thier own “hoods”? Why not just give organized criminals weapons and tell them its ok to terrorize thier neighborhoods? Can you say “extortion”. In my “hood” I AM THE NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH. I do it for free, everyone knows its a “safe house”, everyone knows I will call the police, and everyone knows I dont play around. My little podunk town doesnt need a “civilian security force”.

Or is all this just “hype” and president elect Obama and Rahmm dont have a history of discussing this at all? And intersting how you used the term “most likely won’t happen” does this mean that there is a possibility under President Elect Obama that it “could” happen? Get ready for a nassssty paradigm.

Aggie Sith and Cheapshot911 are on to something.

Every society; feudal, tribal, democracy, even a socialist dictatorship, has politics. Politics is how power and resources are allocated, problems are solved, and rewards and punishments are administered. Every society’s politics has certain inbuilt rules and assumptions that are accepted by all in that polity as giving validity to the decisions made. It may be votes, it may be noblesse oblige, it may be following the traditions of one’s ancestors, or it may be the truncheon and the bullet in the back of the neck for those who displease either the State or the monarch. But each has certain manners and mores that must be followed in the name of legitimacy, or politics breaks down into the only alternative way of allocating power, resources, etc. Brute force.

As a political system fails, as more and more of the members of a society begin to believe that the rules of old no longer apply, and there is no point in resorting to them, violence becomes more common, and more extreme. It is a positive feedback system. All it takes is to reach a trigger point that pushes one side or another too far.

Our particular society holds the Constitution, the rule of law, and honest self-government at the ballot box as the trinity at the core of our politics. Yet we see that neither of the two primary world views conflicting in this country can any longer have faith in the ability of that core to hold by itself.

We have seen registration and vote fraud en-masse, by one side. We have seen violence and intimidation accepted as political tactics by one side, alongside misconduct by Democrat elected and appointed officials. We have seen massive violations of Federal law in the financing of the election campaign with foreign and ineligible domestic donors giving Hussein Pasha more than twice the sum that McSame got legally in total. We have seen the provisions of the Constitution ignored or flouted, by one side. We have no reason to assume that the person about to be installed in the White House is anything but a usurper of foreign nationality. Further, with the connivance of Democrat elected officials, we cannot be anywhere near sure that the vote count is honest. Hell, in Minnesota, they are still finding “ballots” all voting for the Democratic ticket, behind the seats of private vehicles and in glove boxes. And counting them. And this does not include the hundreds of Democrat votes where the paper ballots are there, but for some unknown reason the confirming voting machine computer tapes are non-existent.

We have Hussein Pasha’s own words, and that of his new Chief of Staff, that they intend to create a parallel armed force outside the control of the military. That is not the action of a Democracy or a free Republic. Historically, that is done by dictators.

From the point of view of Conservatives, the trinity above is being flouted with impunity by the Left. The system has been compromised beyond the ability to bring Leftist lawbreakers to account. Therefore, depending on the system is to guarantee submission to a Leftist state. From the point of view of the Left, the exercise of power is what matters, to enforce their state-controlled utopia. To them, the Constitution, the laws and the vote are just impediments to be overcome en-route to ultimate power. The only thing they offered to us after November 4 was an opportunity to allow us to make nice, forgive all the insults and attacks we have been targeted with for years, and to allow us to collaborate in the final destruction of what we hold dear. I grant that more than a few Institutional Republicans have gone Quisling in hopes of preserving themselves in the future. Good Riddance to them; the same as to a certain historical character named Ep(h)ialtes described by Herodotus.

This division is going to do nothing but get wider and deeper. Already I have grave doubts that it can be resolved in a civil manner. All it will take is an eventual over-reach by Hussein Pasha and the trigger point will be passed. Already, by means of 5 of those Republican traitors, a bill attacking the 2nd Amendment has been submitted. [ H.R. 6257: Assault Weapons Ban Reauthorization Act of 2008 http://www.govtrack......=h110-6257 ] How long before the rest of the Bill of Rights is attacked?

The problem is that schools in this country provide no CIVICS education. If they did, people might understand that along with their God-given rights, this country requires a few minimally burdensome duties of its citizens.

American citizens have a RIGHT to vote. But they also have an OBLIGATION to vote intelligently (i.e., make an INFORMED decision).

This, among other obligations like upholding the Constitution and Eternal Vigilance against tyranny, is never explained to Americans. Neither in school, nor through the media. It’s only because Americans are unaware of their TRUE Duties that they can be duped by the Left into believing that they have other (leftist invented) patriotic duties … like paying higher taxes.

LC Brendan - thank you so much for posting this. It should be shouted from the rooftops, mandatory watching in every possible medium, shown front and center on every single network, front page news in every single newspaper, and otherwise spread far and wide. Americans have not voted intelligently or informedly, and that is a travesty.

There was one woman on this video who had at least a curious and somewhat open mind, who could be won to the truth if only she were exposed to it. While I’m not especially tolerant of ignorance in this age of information, there do exist some people who just need a little outreach to make better choices.

And of course, the fact that WE all have a contract to live under the constitution, while the left wants to shred it into toilet paper and subvert it completely and not fulfill their contract, is something that must be addressed - there’s not much point trying to address it any further with the left; it’s now our moral duty to address it with RINOs and false conservative/libertarians and INSIST on enforcement of the constitution in all its precepts. Which of course include very limited government and free trade, not coercion, theft, force, and communism. You all have been inspiring me to write my own treatises on all these things and stop wasting my breath on the left and on their reading material. (Hat tip to Gonzo for bringing that home in sharp relief.)

This is the future - and if it isn’t, there’s no point in life anyway. Liberty or death, real talk.

  81. Tallulah Comment by Tallulah UNITED STATES

This is from a bang-up, knock-down, drag-out, BRILLIANT essay by David Limbaugh: Toward the Tipping Point.

    Kind of says it all.

…It was no less a traditionalist than Mark Steyn, if I may categorize him as such, who recently lamented that “settled democratic societies rarely vote to ‘go left.’ Yet oddly enough that’s where they’ve all gone.”

I think Steyn is merely expressing the paradox that democratic societies are difficult to sustain in the spirit of the oft-stated axiom — attributed to a half-dozen people — that a “democracy” would last until people figured out they could vote themselves money from the public treasury. Benjamin Franklin offered a similar admonition when a woman asked him to describe the form of government the Framers had just crafted: “A republic, madam, if you can keep it.”

This, I think, gets to the very heart of the rub between the traditionalists and the Davids [Brooks et al.]. The Framers designed a scheme of limited government because they believed that such was the best — or the least worst — avenue to maximizing individual liberty. They believed that though man has a yearning to be free, his fallen human condition militates against freedom for society as a whole, absent mechanisms in place to check the natural and clearly established historical tendency of man toward absolutism.

Traditionalists see themselves as guardians of our unique Constitution, which secures liberty as a byproduct of pitting levels and branches of government against one another.

They believe that unless we rededicate ourselves, intellectually and emotionally, to our founding ideal of individual liberty — as opposed to succumbing to the insidious, intoxicating, cowardly [and false] promise of government-provided security at all levels of our existence — we can kiss liberty — and the United States of America as we have known it — goodbye.

Part of the problem is that we have enjoyed such unparalleled freedoms and prosperity that we have been lulled into the false notion that they will continue in perpetuity, even as we betray, to ever-greater extremes, our founding principles.

But traditionalists understand that there is a tipping point beyond which this incessant socialist piggybacking on our capitalistic economic system and these ever-deepening encroachments on our scheme of government (for example, through judicial activism) will finally bring us to our knees.

Traditionalists don’t oppose this or that “high-minded” plan aimed at delivering security (e.g., health care) or prosperity (e.g., direct transfer payments from producers to nonproducers) because they don’t want more people to be prosperous, but because they do, and because they cherish freedom. We know that socialism never works and always results in less prosperity, on top of its obvious freedom-stripping inevitabilities.

The nontraditionalists don’t seem to share our recognition of the ephemeral nature of liberty — as if all of human history weren’t enough proof. They don’t appreciate that by joining liberals intellectually on their turf by simply quibbling over what percentage of abject socialism we’ll permit, we are ultimately signing our own national death warrant.

As quaint as it sounds, someone has to advocate a return to first principles. We don’t have to concede that America cannot reverse its path toward European socialism. But we will have conceded this, if we merely try to outdo liberals on their terrain by being “compassionate conservatives.”

Our charge is to make the case for liberty and that traditionalism is inherently compassionate. If we don’t have the courage to confront the seductive promises of socialism and demonization by the politically correct and pseudo-compassionate, we will surely fail in our duty to bequeath the blessings of liberty to our posterity.

Tallulah, it’s pretty established that “health” is a great club by which to beat people about the head and institute fascism/totalitarianism. Whether that means eliminating fat people (impossible without genocide) or instituting things that DO NOT WORK to eliminate fat people (bikes, veggies). The irony is that the biggest fat rights people, who claim they want to be left alone, also advocate for communist healthcare, mandated things like bike paths, planned cities (I shit you not) and mandatory vegetables and fruits. Even though they are the ones proving time and again that those things do not eliminate health threats in the slightest. It is a huge paradox that people who advocate for treating fat people like human beings worthy of the same rights as every other person are by far the biggest advocates of fascist feminism and fascist totalitarian government. They also tend to love Obama.

Except the mighty Sandy Szwarc, who exposes only the science and doesn’t subscribe to any of that bullshit - http://www.junkfoodscience.blogspot.com (Check out the obesity paradox series for a start. Or perhaps the National Institute of Health’s final solution for fat people. Or Paul Campos “The Obesity Myth.” Or Gina Kolata.)

As to the post by David Limbaugh, I have long wondered if capitalism (freemarkets) carry the seeds of their own destruction. Because a prosperous people inevitably feel humanely guilty about the poor of the world, despite that the remaining poor are from countries which are NOT under free markets). I also just posted a quote on my blog from - de Tocqueville or Smith, can’t remember offhand, about how such a society would last until congress figured out that it could BRIBE the public with the public’s own money. We’re victims of both realities. It is a paradox, but it needn’t be permanent.

I, like so many others who post to this site, swore an oath to support, protect, and defend the Constitution… and gladly did so, twice.

Having read ALL of the posts herein, and a large number of the links (although after three days, all I get at Gonzo’s site is blank space), I wonder why we all tend to forget that there are checks and balances built into the system. Our individual Representatives and Senators at both levels, the State and Federal court systems, the op-ed pages of the media, and the court of public opinion all will act to dilute, and eventually dissipate the “Rising Tide of Hope and Change” currently lapping at the shores of this land.

I would further submit that good old fashioned inertia may yet play a large part in defeating the most objectionable plans of the upcoming administration.

This is all an exercise in practical politics until we start discussing a Constitutional Convention. That’s when it gets serious. And that’s when we need to be ready. Until then, Godspeed, be well, and be free.

THIS INVOLVES BOMBING THE ENTIRE COUNTRY JUST LIKE WE BOMBED GERMANY IN WW2.

leg, have you paid no attention to the dominant party? Unless we can do a whole hell of a lot of screaming, in some fashion that our new overlords will pay attention to, they have all three sides of the triangle of power. There will be NO checks or balances. The only hope we have is the not quite filibuster proof majority. We still have maybe enough to hold them back a bit. Re: 1oldleg and cmblake6

cmblake6’s scenario in # 88 above is the “best case” situation. We are not dealing with a best case. Closer to a perfect storm. When out of power, the Democrats and their allies on the Left have had no compunction about violating either the law or the Constitution; even when in theory there could be unpleasant sequalae for said violation. It is in their nature. Now that they have absolute power, and have promised to create a separate armed force outside the control of the military for their own uses; it is unrealistic, at minimum, to operate on the assumption that the law and Constitution would restrain their actions when they know that there will be absolutely no consequences for anything they do.

If the law, the Constitution, and fear of political consequences [given that they will control the existence. conduct, and vote counting in any future elections that they may allow to occur] does not stay the hand of a tyrant; we are left with the Oath.

    It is enough.

The other thing about the Left’s tyranny is that the Democratic Party is now its golem. They just roll up the instructions, stick them in its mouth, and off it lumbers to do the Left’s bidding.

The Left is sworn to destroy our free republican government. We are the Great Example that proves us wrong, and we must be eliminated. “By any means necessary,” as they’re so fond of saying.

Their leader, whom they’ve shoehorned into the White House, has already spoken longingly of “breaking free of the Constitution.”

This is about as serious as it gets.

I kept trying to tell my friends and sister (my brother, USAF, is already on board! and remembers his oath very well, he assures me) that this Zero guy is not a “garden-variety Democrat,” though those are bad enough — they give us a real bad socialist wedgie, but this guy will split the torso if he can. He has no scruples: witness his alliance with murderer and rapist Ayers, racist demogogue Wright (his Spiritual Mentor, no less!). He makes ole Huey P. Long look like a pussycat.

And Oobonga has zero interest in “helping the poor.” His track record in Chicago, taking money from slumlord and criminal Rezko, who was subjecting “the poor” to horrific living conditions, proves that amply. It’s all about POWER for Oobonga.

And the MSM will cover for him no matter what he does. The Republicans/Patriots will be the “Goldsteins,” the scapegoats, the target of the “Two Minutes Hate” sessions daily. All failures and problems will be ascribed to us, by the Left and their lickspittle lackeys in the press. All opposition to Oobonga’s policies will be ascribed to “racism” or “greed.”

    ….On the other hand.

The founding Patriots fought free of the most powerful empire on Earth. Who would’ve predicted that? And that was with the full support of only about a third of the colonists (about a third in the middle, and roughly that many were Tories).

The barons forced the signing of the Magna Carta, which was a thunderbolt in world history. Never been done.

The Athenians developed this crazy idea of democracy, in a world that had only known absolute monarchs and chieftains.

Hitler, who had a death grip on Germany and Western Europe, was overthrown.

The USSR collapsed from within (with some pressure from us ;-)). I remember that one: it was astonishing.

….So, in the course of human affairs, EVERYTHING IS POSSIBLE. And sooner or later, it all seems to come to pass.

    /my 20 cents.

Imagine if you will, a depression like economy. A economy where there are so many out of work that idealism becomes secondary to survival of self and family. Im thinking now that a collapsed economy will advance, not hinder a entities efforts to assert control. First the skids.. millions unemployed…. then displaced…. then hungry…. crime is necessary to eat., desperation is allowed to set in. Next comes the “government” ala the workforce created in response to the last depression. “Join us… we’ll give you government housing and substance living AND well give you training and a gun”. We’ll give you work so your family wont starve. “Join us”. Turn in your firearms and join us, and your family can eat.

Interesting…. with the inevitable collapse of the auto makers on the horizon we may be looking at the “perfect storm” indeed. Kiss Detroit goodbye.. and probably rightly so.. they along with most others were disportionatly GREEDY. Remember back in the 80’s that whole “yuppie” movement, and that dumbas movie ‘Wall Street” with Michael Douglas saying “Greed is good.” A whole bunch of dumbass’s took that shit for gospel. I have long said that there is positive capitialism and negative capitalism….. negative is about conspicuous GREED. Used to be if a company turned a 6 - 8% net profit over a fiscal year.. they were damn healthy and good.. lately the “stockholders” and Exec’s expect 10 & 12%. Is that really reasonable? And everybody feels like thier entitled to cable, internet, etc. Did you know that cable is considered a necessity in regards to bankruptcy? How fucking crazy is that? File bankruptcy.. keep your cable.??? WTF?

The real problem with a economic collapse today is that unlike the the 20’s we are no longer a agrairian society…. the 52% have no clue how to provide for themselves nor the means to do so should it become necessary. I strongly suggest a “rural” extract plan for those of you that are urban and suburban located. Or else you may get very fucking hungry, and have to fight off the wolves at the same time.

That has to be the ‘tipping point’. Surely the US Military, whose rank and file have all taken the Oath and many of whom have risked it all to defend the Nation, will not only not cooperate in these schemes but also will not stand by and see a political army created to nullify them and enslave the people.

How can The Enemy, with all the economic distress, find the funds and the time to implement this Corps before the right people decide enough is enough? First, they would have to disarm us all, then emasculate the military. To say that either of these, in a time of war with very real and determined foreign enemies, would produce very serious unintended consequences is an understatement.

Unfortunately not all who have taken the Oath understand what it means and more unfortunate still are those who disregard it completely.

Though currently serving in the Navy Seabees I am prior service Army. I served eight years in the Army, two and a half in the Reserve, which convinced me that the Active Army might be a good choice of career, then three years Active which convinced me otherwise.

What convinced me otherwise were the attitudes and behaviors that I observed while serving. Admittedly, the comments that I make here come from the perspective of a support soldier. My MOS was first 76C (Parts Load List Clerk) then converted to 92A (Automated Logistics Specialist).

First I found that the support field was full of politics and pencil whipping. No one really gave much of a damn about doing the job properly the only thing that mattered was that the paperwork made it look like something was getting done, whether it was or not. It might be imagined that fixing the f##k ups that resulted made for some long hours of uncompensated overtime (Yeah, technically you paid a salary while in the service so there is no “overtime”. I think many of us will agree that our service members are under-compensated as it is, take almost any enlisted pay-grade you chose and divide it into an hourly wage and you might agree with me about uncompensated overtime).

The second thing I discovered was the pervasion of CYOA (Cover Your Own A##). Basically, the attitude that so long as your own s##t was in order no one else’s problems mattered. If getting your s##t in order meant dropping your problems in someone else’s lap, so be it. This also meant that if you were senior and were told to implement a policy that you knew would create work for your subordinates then you kept your mouth shut and implemented the policy. It’s not like you would be fixing the problems that got created anyway. Besides, what else are subordinates for, right?

The final disillusionment was the attitude of my fellow subordinates. Upon learning of an imminent deployment to Somalia the general consensus was that no one had enlisted to be deployed. Of course everyone still expected to be granted the benefits that they were promised when they enlisted, but they did not expect that they might be selected to be deployed into a hot zone to earn those benefits (Thinking back on it, it makes me wonder that they did not question BASIC TRAINING, “Why are we learning all this combat stuff anyway? I enlisted to be supply.”).

As I said, this is all from the point-of-view of a support soldier. I also had friends in combat arms, mostly of the 19K and 19D persuasion as I was stationed on Ft. Hood. They said that their experiences were very much different. Apparently, when your job might put you into the immediate line-of-fire and you may depend on the guy next to you to save your bacon you realize very quickly that it would be a bad idea to play politics and screw him over. Unfortunately, in the support field there is no such sense of camaraderie.

So, what is the upshot? From my experience there are many who either choose to disregard the Oath or do not understand what it means when they take it. Not only this, but also that taking the Oath does not automatically educate one in the history of a political candidate. I find it unfortunate to report that even in my current detachment there are those who supported Obama. Did they know everything that had gone unreported about him and what has been discovered about him since? I cannot answer this. What I can say is that when the topic was discussed they sounded about as well informed as anyone else who supported him, which unfortunately is not very.

There it is. Tha crux of the biscuit.
    That fine print.
An agreement. A promise. A CONTRACT.
A little scribble that describes exactly what whom shall do.
    On their honor.

That growing disrespect for ones own signature, “I had to sign it or they wouldn’t let me in, now I don’t wanna;,,,,(fill in the blank)!” is what I think is at the bottom of our national malaise.

“Sign anything to get anything, ditch later, don the victim of economic injustice hat, screw the pooch,, console y’self by saying everybody’s doing it.” (SPIT)
