Remember when Phuckhead Phaggot Phelp’s “church” were slapped down with a $5 million penalty for pissing on the grave of a hero?
Well, it gets better. The Inbred Phaggot Phelpses thought they’d get out from under the judgment by filing for bankruptcy. Not so fast, said the judge, and slapped a lien on their “church” building as well as their offices. (H/t the Jawa Report):
A federal judge in Maryland on Thursday ordered liens on the Westboro Baptist Church building and the Phelps-Chartered Law office.
If the case presided over by U.S. District Court Judge Richard D. Bennett is upheld by an appeals court, the church, at 3701 S.W. 12th, and the office building, at 1414 S.W. Topeka Blvd., could be obtained by the court and sold, with the proceeds being applied toward $5 million in damages Bennett imposed on church members for picketing a military funeral.
If the properties mentioned are seized, we suggest that they be sold to, say, the GBLT community. We’re sure that they can make good use of them, and we suggest that the properties be sold to them cheap.
Dirt cheap.
Or maybe sell them to the VFW?

Wait. Is common sense is starting to come back to our legal system or is this a fluke?

Hell, DONATE to sell the properties to the GLBT community. Just like I’d love to sell Mosques to Hormel. . . :em02:

Sweet.
The perfect ending to the saga. Now, if the ruling is only upheld by the bankruptcy court…
(Which I suspect is pretty likely…)

Oh, that’s a shame. Maybe they can rent one of the many crack houses in Philly - although the thought of those toads making the houses even more dirty scares me.
April 5th, 2008 at 8:53 PMUsing
I have a better idea - give it to one of those ex-gay ministries, or ex-gay-friendly organizations like Parents and Friends of ExGays and Gays. Phelps and the GLBT folks are in bed together opposing that sort of thing.

This whole case is a hue victory for a number of religions, but Christians in particular. Phelps needed to be silence, and now the government is going to make sure they don’t just weasel out of their fines. Maybe, just maybe, this will keep them from popping up elsewhere for some time.

Not to whizz on your charcoal but don’t forget they are a (Manson-type) family of lawyers.
It’d be sweet if this was the stake in their nasty black little hearts, but I’m not betting on it being so.

I think they should open a big ol’ gay leather-boy club on the premises.

Wil, you’re throwing that term “people” around mighty loosely.

Nope, sell them and divide the proceeds between every family whose funeral the Phelps picketed.

Somewhat OT (kinda):
For anyone following the news of the ongoing unpleasantness in the Episcopal / Anglican Church in Virginia, the local Judge (in the case of Truro and 10 other formerly Episcopal Churches) has ruled that, in the event of a split, the VA Statute (57-9) concerning the Church’s property does apply. That is, in the event of a terminal separation of the churches involved, the property of the church may go with the members, if the members vote is correctly done.
