The Imperial Drunktards™ have, once again, dispersed to their sundry spheres of influence and the environs of the Greater Tampa/St. Pete area are minus a good number of gallons of alcoholic beverages. (Coincidentally, several breweries’ stock prices mysteriously skyrocketed over the past week.) After the Imperial Dungeon Game Room™ staff has had a chance to completely dry out, we’ll be posting more pictures and videos in a Sooper Seekrit™ location, but, for now, we’ll give all of you who wussed out weren’t able to attend the Third Annual Flori-duh Rott Fest™ a glimpse at some of the hardware that was utilized this past weekend.
Yeah. We all left the range with smiles on our faces and immediately lit up cigarettes. (Yes. It was THAT good.)
Next time we’re sending in the Imperial Jackbooted Storm Troopers™ to kidnap His Imperial Rapaciousness™ and drag his ass, kicking and screaming, to the festivities.

We had a bonafide left coast Rottie there jaybear! To protect his ultra sooper dooper secret identity BC has renamed him “sleeper cell”. I wont say what he does for a living, but needless to say he is in the belly of the beast in Kalifornistan and doing a dayumned good job of tweaking the leftest of the left in the very halls of lefty idiotarianism.
Ya all had an invite too, even though I know it would have been a long haul to make it there. So all I can say is gaze on the lovely collection of boomsticks and allow these words to echo in your head…”neener, neener, neener”.
It was indeed a great time, and I was very impressed with the weaon handling skills of the LC’s that were in attendance. A lot of great potential there. Each and every one of ‘em had the Uzi cranking on full bore like a pro, well controlled bursts all hitting center mass. Warmed the cockles of this war mongers heart it did.
Now just wait until we post the pictures of the food! BC and Ten-ten can COOK!

April 16th, 2008 at 6:42 PMUsing
… I suppose I am. Never really thought about it. on of my current project is tweaking a 91-30 for long range precision shooting.
April 16th, 2008 at 6:44 PMUsing
While I’m thinking about it.
I’m looking for .30-30 caliber barrels ‘in the white’ not threaded, or tapped. Just a .30 caliber tube, with a .30-30 chamber on one end. Untapered would be ideal.
See, .30-30 is 7.62×51mm rimmed.
the nagant is 7.62×54mm Rimmed.
SO I re-ream the .30-30 chamber out to 7.62×54R and thread one end to match the mosin’s receiver… and now I havea decent barrel.
April 16th, 2008 at 7:25 PMUsing
Roguetek
A couple of thoughts on project Mosin fer ya.
One; not all 7.62 cartridges are .308 diameter bullets. The .30-30 Winchester is. The 7.62×54R Mosin Nagant is not. It is a .311 diameter bullet. (As is the 7.62×39, btw.)
If your plan is to handload for the rifle, this is not a stumbling block, particularly since the selection of bullets in .308 is probably the widest of any bore diameter. Just get a set of dies with a .308 instead of .311 expander ball, and you are good to go.
If you plan to continue using mil-surp ammo in your 91-30, weeeellll….. Maybe not a good idea. Some of the copper jacketed, lead cored will swage down without problems or excessive pressure..
Not always true of something like Hungarian heavy ball.
Free advice? Pick up another Mosin for the project, and, if you can wait until Sunday night, I can get you the proper dimensions and thread pitch for it.
(just as a side note, I have this problem with not one but TWO calibers. I have a .308 diameter Mosin made by Remington in 1915, (and four or five .311s, Russian and Finnish), and a J-barrelled 8mmx57 stalking rifle made in Germany between WWI and WWII. The stalking rifle is even more of a problem, since the respective bore diameters are .318 and .327…)

You can say THAT again! I found this pic of him on one of his island vacations to Hedonism II. (Of course, he was much younger and much more svelte when the pic was taken.)

April 16th, 2008 at 8:52 PMUsing
Well… That’s good and bad I suppose. suggestions on where I can get a decent .311 barrel in the white? I’m trying to find a barrel that -isnt- shot out. My reseach so far tells me I’m going to have to make one. as there does not seem to be anyone selling -good- mosin barrels. Yes, I can buy a surplus M-44 barrel for 60 bucks. I can get the whole rifle for $50.00….
erm…. I’m more inclined to keep the origional caliber. Having to remember that I cant shoot surplus in -this- one, is a bad thing. and I -might- be in a position where surplus is all I have…
Yeah, not doing that.
I’ve got -3-, how many more do I need?
Yeah, I’ve seen a remington recently. bore was horrid.

Will do, Bob.
As for the site— In order to get most of that, after all these years, I’d need my trusty ol’ Hans Wehr dictionary and I haven’t seen hide nor hair of it since Shoe PCS’d outta Hell-in-a-Can during the base draw-down. I can get some of the basic stuff, but it’s been so long since I tried to really translate that retarded monkey scribble that it hurts just thinking about it.

Let me do a little looking. I would not hold out much hope, however.
What I would suggest as an easier route to take would be to find a Finnish M-38, or any of the Finnish rifles. If you find one with a good bore in it, (very possible, every Finn I have ever had had a good bore), you have a rifle that will do minute of angle, and shoot surplus ammo.
Look for a stock that is finger jointed at the grasping grooves, and a stamp of “SA” in a rectangle on the receiver/chamber reinforce.
I had a Finnish 1891 that would do sub minute of angle. Full magazine into a two liter bottle cap at 100yards.
(usually, I could not hold it that well, but when I did…)
I could routinely cut the caps off of the bottles, but holding the sight picture for that kind of grouping is not the easiest thing in the world.
The Finns had a simple rule with the rifles that they rebuilt, if the rifle would not put five rounds into 1.1 inches or less at 100 meters, it was reworked until it would.
Or it was parted out.
The “SA” stamp was the acceptance for usage, and is an abbreviation for Finnish Army, (Suomi Armi, IIRC)
I know there was something else I wanted to add, but I’m not remembering it right now…

I dont want to tear up a perfectly good historical piece for this project.
This is more of a ‘proof of concept gun’
the Finns are still using this thing as a sniper rifle, and I thought it might be fun to see if I could build one.
but not at the price of killing an m-38 to do it.

Roguetek…
Uhmm… I wasn’t suggesting killing off a Finn to do it… I was just talking about getting a Finn and using as is…
You might check out Brownells for a barrel blank, if you want to work with .308 diameter bullets…
If you have access to a lathe, try here.
Shilen does .311 barrels, and pricing is looking to start at $177 for a 30 inch unturned. (or $212 for thirty inch turned to diameter).
Add a chamber reamer, (around $70-100, last time I was looked, try MidwayUSA or Brownells), and plan to spend some time putting it all together. (However, (lucky for you!) the cartridge headspaces on the rim, so you can fake that part of gauging it all together)
A preturned, chambered barrel in ChromeMoly steel is just about $400.00 bucks from them. But Shilen does make good stuff…
Google Search: “rifle barrels makers”
April 17th, 2008 at 6:04 PMUsing
I was going to take a 30 incher, true the outside to the inside, thread it, and mount it in a nagant reciever.
And while Shilen would do a better job I’m sure, it wouldn’t be -mine-.
I’m going to do every part, even if it makes for a shitty rifle.
Then I’ll throw away the shitty parts, and do it again.
and -again-. until it’s right.
these are thing I want to know how to do.
IF I could figure out how to make a barrel making machine without blowing 10,000 I dont have, I’d do it.
mine the ore, smelt it, alloy it, form it, and assemble it, if I could. but then, I;’m insane. the doctors tell me so.
